Harrison is grouse.

But he’s a 21yo who has played 16 games and is around half way through his recovery from an ACL.

He can fly under the radar.
HH has great physical attributes, but his best one is between the ears.
He's a smart footballer - the way he got the ball to Nick who then kicked the winner against the scum is a good illustration.

I'll keep banging this drum, because why not.

Potential is the great AFL myth and it's the currency of rubbish clubs like St Kilda and the Suns.

Not performing? Yeah well at least you have yoof with "potential".

It doesn't win games and it certainly doesn't win flags.

Bringing in elite youth is important but it's just a piece of the puzzle.

Harsh on Allan and Jiath tbh. If you’re looking purely at upside those guys should be right up there.

I'm not as offended by it. Currently, none of those except for Naicos is getting a regular game or likely to be in the best 22 starting the year,

But things can change super fast. Steele Sidebottom played 11 games in his first year and by year 2 played every game and won a premiership

I think there’s a good chance Allan plays round 1 tbh.

Well, according to The Age, we have ZERO talent coming through:-

Note that at the start of the article says "We have ranked each of the under-23 groups, based on top-line talent but also depth, proven performance and potential."

Then it puts Brisbane at #3 with star upside from Levi Ashcroft (has played 0 games) and North #1 with star upside from Fin O'Sullivan (has played 0 games).

I mean, sure there's no potential from Cochrane, West or Hayes... idiots.
I don't mind that they don't rate anyone other than Daicos yet. I don't think they should. But I don't think they get the concept of quality versus quantity.

Who's keen to trade Nick for these groups that they have mid-table?

Melbourne at 9:
Already a star:
None. Star upside: van Rooyen, Langford, Windsor.

Fremantle at 7
Already a star: Treacy. Star upside: Amiss, Chapman.

I actually agree with it, I haven't seen any player with star attributes come through recently apart from Nick Daicos.

That's not a slight on any of our players, it's difficult to get to that status. In my eyes there's only like 2-3 per team (maybe a little more) on average, the ones just below that are still really bloody good, just not at that Bont, Cripps, Naicos etc. level.

Allan is the one who has the potential to get there, but most stars apart from KPP/Rucks show a lot of those qualities in their first few years. Seeing as he's only 2 games in his first 2 years I can't put him in there yet.

Collingwood’s gutted recruiting department has suffered another blow after their talent ID manager quit, choosing to leave for West Coast instead of accepting a promotion at the Pies.

It leaves the club poised to enter the season with their football department in a state of flux for a second successive season.

Three sources with knowledge of the situation, who did not want to be named in order to speak freely, said the club had offered Adam Shepard a role as replacement for Derek Hine. They then planned to appoint another person to work as the talent ID manager.
But Shepard told the club this week instead that he would take a similar role at West Coast.

Hine, who oversaw the recruitment of players for Collingwood’s last two premiership teams, departed just months ago. Shepard had been hired into recruiting at Collingwood by Hine, who had mentored him and with whom Shepard remained close.
Shepard had been with Collingwood since 2012 and was highly regarded at the club he had followed all his life.
The move leaves Collingwood without a head of recruiting or deputy head. Only Shannon Collins, who moved from football operations manager into the recruiting department a little over a year ago, remains on the full-time recruiting staff.
Collingwood appointed former Brisbane Lions player and senior coach Justin Leppitsch as permanent list manager towards the end of last season. He had been working as an assistant coach prior to last season and had worked as a list manager before he was appointed to act in the position during the absence of Graham Wright last year.
Last season the Magpies went through the year without a permanent general manager of football or list manager after Wright – who combined both roles – quit the club but was then persuaded by then president Jeff Browne and the board to take six months’ leave and return to the club.

The Magpies struggled to find a new permanent general manager of football last year before finally securing respected former Sydney football boss Charlie Gardiner just before Christmas.

Shepard joins the Eagles after they made wholesale changes to their recruiting department at the end of last year, with three long-term staff leaving. The Eagles appointed former Richmond recruiting manager Matthew Clarke as list manager last year.

So we offered him a promotion and he still chose to go to WC. Well good luck, and thank you for 12 years of good service.

Edited for decency.

Sometimes people need a change of environment: for a challenge, to bring out the best in themselves, boredom etc.

If you find yourself feeling resentful of such things, then perhaps you need a change in scenery yourself.

Was a little concerned reading this at first, but actually might not be a bad thing. Our talent id since 2012 hasn't really translated into great draft halls, and this might make it easier to poach someone good while giving them the opportunity to appoint effectively their 2IC. Hopefully we get someone good!!

So we offered him a promotion and he still chose to go to WC. Good riddance.
What I took out of that article was apparently we're in a 'flux' after Shepard departs. And we 'struggled' to find a footy boss replacement.

Yet Eagles have lost 3 full-time staff & it's just called 'wholesale' changes.

Perfect opportunity for us to get some fresh eyes into our recruiting team, imo.

Not sure we should read anything into the framing of the article given both journos are Collingwood supporters.

not everyone is ambitious - nothing wrong with that.
He took the same role he was offered at Collingwood but at WC. I’d say that moving yourself over the other side of the country to rebuild a club rather than staying in your comfort zone at a successful club is a relatively ambitious move, but what do I know 🤷🏻

I hope Gardiner can help poach some of Sydney’s recruiters. Even without the help of Academies their talent ID over the past decade has been very good.
