I don’t buy into there being “cheap” KPFs. They are highly paid players, always have been, and managers know that. I’m certain that to attract Jake Riccardi, Collingwood would have to offer $400,000 a season at a minimum. His manager would be pushing for 500k.

Plus we’d have to trade for him, as opposed to recruiting a free agent for nothing
$500k for a guy who’s a depth player at his current club? What planet are you living on?
And who cares if we had to trade for him? Unless GWS started playing him he would be worth about as much as we paid for Kreuger.

It took a very solid 3-year contract to attract Kreuger who would have stayed at Geelong otherwise. He played 2 games. If you think Riccardi moves interstate to join Collingwood for anything less than the deal I stated then you’re having a laugh

If he’s on the market, he goes to the highest bidder. We would be fighting Essendon, North, Richmond etc for his services. You think he comes to us for 250k? Laughing

You think Kreuger is earning $500K (or thereabouts)??

We were keen on him last year iirc.

Yeah I reckon I heard that as well. He was taken just before Henry so would have been interesting to see which way we went if we had to pick.

Reid was the key back we’d been linked to a lot as well until about a week before when it became apparent Essendon would select him.

The Stone call is an intriguing one. I think we should be looking to pick some mids like that out from GWS and Gold Coast in particular.

Mid season pick on a tall.
First round on a tall.
Future picks or combining our 3 thirds should be used for trades or moving up the draft order.

Its very true that you need to offer 'overs' for a guy to leave. Just the way it is.
Especially when they are playing in the team (i.e. getting opportunities) and have to move interstate (even their home state).

So whilst 500K is excessive IMO, its not out the realms of what's required (Mayne / Wells, rightly or wrongly, are good examples of what it takes to move players who are getting games).

So its either higher $ or longer terms.
They both serve as tools to get someone to move.
Clubs would also look at the "what if" scenario as well.
Based on this i think clubs would favour longer terms as it means the next contract won't need to be so excessive if the player steps up.

I said Riccardi’s manager would be pushing for 500k. You don’t think managers want the best deals for their players? I never said that’s what he’d go for, but if there’s a bidding war it’s not out of the question
There's not going to be a bidding war for Riccardi any more than there was for Krueger imho.

I don't think the contract would need to be big, if he wanted to move for opportunity. It's more the trade price with GWS if they want to keep him, as they always drive a hard bargain when a contracted player they want to keep requests a trade - the deals just don't get done.

Sliding doors, boorish term i know, personally I'd prefer Henry, at this stage over Nik Cox who I see as someone who may never have the body to play AFL

Cox is built like a bean pole.

Are you trying to say Kreuger is on $500k?
And you really think that Riccardi, a Victorian, is going to hold out for a giant deal, to move back to Victoria?
He was available last year, uncontracted, and none of the clubs you listed above fought for him, or even mildly pushed for him. And again you’re making numbers up. I never said anything about $250k, I just said $500k is nonsense.
You’re vastly overestimating his market value here, just because he’s a key forward.

its funny....i couldn't stuffed looking it up before i commented and knew i'd get corrected if i got it wrong :)

Haven't seen GWS in the last few rounds.....so took a guess (and got it wrong obviously )

clearly the longer that continues, the lower the bar to prise him out.

Yeah I agree. The issue with Cox was always going to be what is best position was.

Reid though was the one I wanted that Essendon got and was linked to us early. Genuine defender.

Connor Stone was the one I referenced that it would have been interesting if he was there at the Henry pick. I seem to remember a lot of talk linking him to us also and remembering just wanting a key forward.

I still just want a key forward…. and a key defender as well.

But obviously he'd turn into a gun if he came to Collingwood.
I don’t think anyone has said that? If you followed the conversation he was floated as a cheap Kreuger type option that could play immediately while we developed a high end key forward, hopefully drafted this year. Better than Cox or Cameron, but unlikely to ever become much more than a role player.

And has the Hine secret sauce, he wears Meryl Streep’s Versatility.

Who said Kreuger is on 500k? I certainly didn’t.

I’d be stunned if Riccardi turns out to be as good as McStay is, let alone better. I’m perplexed as to why he is so popular on here

You're the one who said it took "a very solid offer" to lure Kreuger away - what does this actually mean?
