If only Lynch was going to net us a future second from Hawthorn.

Then Lipinski for 58.

That would be the dream.
Lynch and our possibly newly acquired future 3rd from Freo to Hawks for their future second (and some other bits n pieces)?

Can't say I'm all that excited to see news that we might be trading 22 to the Dockers for 27 and a future 3rd while they gouge the Suns for pick 19.
The suns are in the same position we were in - certainly not our clubs fault nor the Trade/draft teams.

And every other club gets the same free look.

Could have signed him for a six month contract.

Two points. Firstly, in a normal year, sure yours is a decent strategy. A good well run stable club could easily deal with an errant player going off the rails. The last year has been anything but normal, we reeled from scandal to scandal: The salary cap fire sale, Treloar being told he wasnt wanted by the senior players, the Do Better Report, Eddie resigning, the brouhaha to the appointment of ineligible board members, the board challenge of Jeff Browne, Bucks being sacked. JDG's looming sexual assault charge The whole feeling was a club floundering and sinking, the absolute last thing we needed to deal with was another scandal

Secondly, you might take the risk for a player of elite abilities. Stengel is clearly a good player at SANFL level. I knpw he is young, but at AFL level, he has been no better than a handy role player and Im not sure if he has the potential to ever be better than that. So taking a risk of off field dramas for a role player just isnt an attractive strategy. Im happy enough to take him as a DFA, but am under no illusions that we are getting the next Kozzy Pickett or Charlie Cameron...

Good we got a 3rd back next year, and not a huge drop of points from 22 to 27....

Looking at this trade wholistically with the GC pick swap - effectively we've traded a future second for pick 27, 46 and 58 this year. Hard to see how we lose in this one. Basically created a third and fourth round (46, 58) out of thin air. Equivalent to 500 points or pick 36.

Great deal we drop a few points but get a 2022 3rd rounder.
It is all about the numbers and it aint over yet.
I love how GW get's things done early.
I think all the other clubs now know there is a new Sheriff in town - if only he could trade Grundy and keep Lynch.

Some of the Bullies supporters are talking about grabbing Darcy Cameron on their trade thread. 🤣

Apparently on a relative high contract next year. This was a salary dump. Suns have cap issues and struggling to free up cash for resigning some of their young guns

Everyone knows the Suns are having issues but it's not really their cap at all, it's their overstuffed list stemming from the concessions the AFL gave them a few years ago.

Salary dumps usually involve the "sending" club not really getting much back for the player they are sending, not also taking a *heavy* discount on an early draft pick. Brodie's salary isn't even that high for the record and he's only under contract for one year, so it's not even really a legitimate salary dump, just getting rid of a player.

Same thing happened with the Suns last year with pick 11 with they threw out the window for a future second. It's farcical the way the AFL have handled this and even more of a joke that the AFL let the Suns keep pick 19 which they clearly can't use and have to throw out the window for cents in the dollar.

The suns are in the same position we were in - certainly not our clubs fault nor the Trade/draft teams.

You misunderstand - this is more of a swipe at the AFL than at our list management team.

Having said that though I'm still not happy with us doing a standard "downgrade" of pick 22 as pick 27 is in no man's land, in that if it's not used to match the Daicos bid (which would be a disaster in itself) then it's almost certainly going to be too late to grab any of the promising KPP prospects who will fall into the 20's given that pick 27 will likely slip back to pick 30 in the live draft.

I had hoped we'd be a bit creative about it and push this pick up into a late first round pick, but apparently that's not the case and a vanilla pick 27 + future 3rd for a potentially in-demand pick 22 really makes the move to secure pick 22 in the first place pretty much pointless.

We'll have to wait and see what unfolds but from where I sit that mooted trade with Freo is a big win for Freo and a substantial weakening of our own position in this trade period.

It's becoming obvious that Wright is playing a game of chess this trade period. Each trade is a move toward whatever it is they are wanting to achieve. The current move appears have one of two possible outcomes (IMO) either that future third is for Lipinski meaning 22 is for 27 and Lipinski or Collingwood is looking to refill it's round 2 and 3 picks for 2022 so that they can trade their future first round on draft night.
I hope we dont trade our future first round, the team may have a bad year getting used to the new game plan and we lose a top 3 pick...
