The McStay recruitment (if it happens) looks like a smart move.......his career to date goal stats have been impacted by a significant portion of his early career being played in defence, and his role now is a high forward.......he is playing as a 3 part key forward line with Daniher and Hipwood. Key position forwards often develop later (and he debuted at 19)....so it has taken him a long while to feel at home. The other parts of his game I really like is his takling and 1%ers which I think will really suit our side .....I think he comes in as a key forward, but he is very versatile and could play key defence (someone who could handle the Hawkins types).....and can pinch hit / chop out in ruck contests even if only in forward half or defensive to take some pressure of Grundy who's preference is to ruck the whole game.....I think this is also a case of recruiting a good player from a club who has ample of coverage in that position (Lions Key Pos forward) ....which perhaps means the market undervalues .....a bit like Lipinski (bulldogs midfield depth) .....I like it and I reckon we could see it as a massive bargain down the road....

I like this idea. 76woodenspooners this I think should be the aim for Henry. Obviously he needs to further develop his running capacity for it. But if we're looking beyond this year with him, which I'm sure we are, this is a role that could really add something special to the team.

I could see Johnson playing that role.

Henry I like closer to goal.

You raise an interesting point, could they go with 1 ruck and McStay in future?

yes potentially with Grundy as the No1 Ruck.....the other interesting aspect of Grundy's absence is that now Cameron's value / currency on the market has increased a lot (I like him so not saying that we trade him.....but pointing out he is now a much higher trade value) ....and so has Cox .....Cox is advanced in age but his body has not taken the typical beating of an AFL player of his age as he started much later....I am on the page of we would be crazy to consider trading Grundy - Cameron has done a really solid job in his absence (but our expectations were relatively low) .....as the no 1 Ruck go forward our expectations are much higher ........ I like Cameron as Forward/Ruck and perhaps even as an 80%+ forward....

you want him on a wing?
WHE v Henry in terms of ground covered all the numbers tell me is WHE does a lot of unrewarded running. Henry is a state level athlete AFAIK so I’m confident he’s capable of covering the ground WHE does, but it’s role and workrate related. That’s not to poo poo WHE either with his unrewarded running because I’m sure he’s doing exactly what the coaching group are asking of him (his productions to low otherwise). In terms of current role likeness Henry’s playing more like JDG the forward. JDG has never covered the ground higher workrate players cover, but he’s no less a player for it. The question for me is more around the role the club are asking Henry to play as a marking forward which I don’t agree with. The problem is they probably don’t have the same faith in him playing a higher intensity role because he has the workrate queries…

If all that happens, the days might not be so happy for a few players still without a contract for next year.

Who are we shipping off?

Hi Sideswipe, sorry for my tarty reply as I’m in Europe ATM.

We are a performance driven sport so yes their will always be unhappy players should they not be re contracted. One would hope that those players have given themselves 110% chance of being the best they could be whilst on the list. ( This is something only they and the club would know). Yes injuries can take away someone’s best.

Answering your question and reviewing our list based on my above hopes I’d see the following players delisted.

Calum Brown: Has been in the system since 2016 FS draft. Basically he hasn’t been able to cement his spot and time for both to move on. With luck another club will pick him up or rookie list him.

Jack Madgen: Has been a valued soldier however I don’t see a spot for him with Dean, Mcstay and Kruger not being injured next year. I potentially see Kruger being made into a Key Backman . Let’s wait and see over summer on that one.

I see 2 of any of the following not being at the Pies for next year. All for varied reasons but more so for list improvement opportunities. Also note Bobby Hill likely to be at the Pies next year. I’m note sure on some of their contracts so bear with me.

Arco Drappr, Harvey Harrison, Liam McMahon, Cooper Morley, Caleb Poulter, Tom Wilson.

A big call I believe has to be made on Will Kelly. He still doesn’t look up to it and might just be one of those players that gets injured regularly.

Tyler Brown to get one more year. Again

Also note that Keane and Roughead will be delisted / Retired.

Neither will have it they cant get the tank. Maybe the first to get the tank will make it their own. I'd prefer they both get the tanks and can rotate.

In terms of staying/leaving? Nothing much really. I've got a friend who claims he is gone, but thats heresay and based on nothing substancial. We'll have to wait and see how it progresses. You can tell he wants to stay -- to the point it's almost you feel bad for him; but we'll see what happens there soon enough.

100% wants to stay, just won't get the money he wants.

He won’t. He’ll have to choose between money and staying for less. But he is almost like a puppy dog lately with his love for the club. I kinda get the sense he would accept what we offer.

On McStay, Brisbane went out of their way to recruit Daniher. They clearly did not believe McStay was up to being a one or two key forward. If you believe he can be a key back, they also recruited Adams. If you believe he can be a ruck forward, they also just recruited Fort.

Brisbane do not believe McStay can be anything more than he has been. A third tall forward.

This has Wells/Mayne disaster written all over it. Like the brains trust are outsmarting the brains trust from Brisbane.

The other issue with recruiting him is it dents any chance we make a play for a King or a McKay in the future.

I think its terrible recruiting. Hope I am wrong.

People are allowed to be critical of a significant list/cap investment. Just because you've hitched your wagon to McStay doesn't mean everyone just needs to be absolutely glowing and not be critical at all.

I mean no offence Jen, your training reports are great content but sometimes you're TOO positive on players. You ignore legitimate shortcomings of players like the defensive capabilites of Henry because he has a cute smile. You've been supportive of McStay just because it's basically a confirmation he's coming to the club. It could be reported that we're offering a three-year deal for Shane Mumford to come out of retirement and you'd jump on it as a great move that we need to trust Wright over.

The one time I've seen you be half-objective about a Collingwood player is saying AJ doesn't deserve a senior game because of his tank.

Again, you are 100x more valuable to this forum than I am but this is a discussion board about Collingwood. If we just turn this place into a hugbox it'll be the most boring place on the internet.

You shouldn't be telling people to "move on" just because you're getting a result you like.

Unfortunately positive info is the only info people can handle on this board

Jen2310 got me about 20 inbox apologies when she confirmed I was bang on about my Beams info, I copped abuse for 12 plus months.

It's pretty sad when people go after posters for passing on reliable info even when it's something people don't want to hear.

You can't blame someone for not posting negative stuff on here, the attack you will receive is something out of a Netflix bully doco.

Yeah it's been extremely desperate on social media to point of being awkward, I love the bloke but can see straight through it.

Why are we so reliant on Brisbane’s ability to identify and evaluate talent over our own?

Hill is not a finished product but I like what he brings to the mix. He is a classic pacy front and centre crumber who I think pairs well with McCreery and Ginnivan who both bring different qualities to the field.
Yes, said this before, we don’t possess a player like Hill on our list. I think he takes over McCreery who I would like to see develop into a midfielder.

Why would we be able to GET Logan McDonald when the Swans have set up the succession plan for life after Buddy!?
We'd have more chance of getting Tommy Hawkins.....lol (as in NEVER Gonna happen)
I think we need to stop worry about what other clubs may or may not have planned.

I am sure the Suns had grand plans for Tom Lynch and Steven May. But Richmond and Melbourne went and got what they were after.

The key is what does Logan McDonald want. If he wants to wait for Buddy to finish his career then you are right, he will be hard to get.

Plenty of worse places to be than playing in front of big crowds at the Mcg for the club you grew up supporting.
