I would have hoped to see a lot more from Lorenz by now tbh.

Ratkins as an emerg is a bit of a no-brainer. Experienced player that can step right in and play a few different roles, doesn't necessarily mean he's 29th best.
Not every 19 year old is JHF, Lalor or Nick Daicos. What are we expecting from a pick 50? He was bloody good consistently last year in his first year of senior footy. The good sides introduce and carry a kid or two through 50 games as they improve. We seem to expect Lorenz to be peak Shane Crawford in match #3…

From the Sydney Prelim debacle we are:

Outs:

Dixon
Butters
Narkle
Zerk-Thatcher
Ratugolea

Ins:

Lukosius
Berry
Richards
Finlayson
Powell-Pepper

The inclusions make us a much better side (Butters missing withstanding), and we are a lot more balanced and mobile. If we can keep Boak & Burton from lacing out Collingwood forwards we may actually have a chance.
Francis Evans as well.

Pies’ burning question: Can Dan Houston lead much-needed response?
The Pies were one of the most active sides in the player movement space over the off-season and are set to unveil arguably their biggest recruit of all in Dan Houston this weekend. And up against his old side, you’re going to want to have the popcorn ready for this one. Houston arrives at the club having become one of the game’s most damaging half-backs and will immediately bolster Craig McRae’s side, who struggled to create any drive and transition and generally have poise with the ball against the Giants in Opening Round. While Houston clearly won’t be the sole fix, the Pies will will hope he’s a key part of their response this week. “He’s an All-Australian calibre player and has earned that right over his career,” Buckley began on Fox Footy’s On the Couch. “He’ll definitely help Collingwood, he’s a great user of the ball, he’s very strong aerially and they’ll welcome his inclusion no doubt.”
Power’s burning question: Can new-look side repeat blueprint of Pies demolition?
Collingwood was pretty ordinary in Opening Round against the Giants which begs the question, was that an anomaly or is something adrift at the Holden Centre? Either way, you’d imagine Ken Hinkley to try and run the Pies off their feet once again this weekend. Collingwood struggled to cope in hot and humid conditions against the Giants, with numerous players, including Nick Daicos, cramping up early in the second half. When quizzed about what Hinkley should be thinking heading into round one, Collingwood champion Nathan Buckley said Hinkley should try and make it “a running race”. “How can [he] make the game as quick as possible and get it into transition? If what we saw in pre-season is true, they’re going to go really fast,” Buckley said on Fox Footy’s On the Couch. Draftee Joe Berry looks poised to make an immediate impact across the half-forward line given his elite endurance and ability to work up and down the ground, while captain Connor Rozee is ready and raring to go as well. Jeremy Finlayson will assume a role in defence where he can utilise his marking ability and ball use, which means the Power will have a pretty different look in 2025. “They’re going to want to speed this game up and make Collingwood have to run and earn it,” Buckley said.

I thought Zerk-Thatcher’s loss would hurt going back a few weeks. But I think Finlayson could provide good cover. His form in the trial matches was pretty good. His edge is his decision making and disposal.

He’s a flakey player but I’d rather see a player show good rather than bad form in trial matches.

I’ve probably jinxed him. His opponent will probably kick a bag on Saturday.

If the SANFL team was playing this week, the emergencies would make sense. You want the less experienced players playing the reserves in R1, so you take fringe players who you hope can slot in at short notice. But without the SANFL, it makes no sense at all.

Boak or Burton as sub adds nothing. Sinn at least has some speed.
Sinn, if 100% needs to play, needs to develop. Maybe Sub develops his confidence, but he was damn good in the Hawks final early on. I understand you want some excitement and flair to inject, Sinn provides run, dash/pace and carry, I think there are better options like Mead, Jones or SPP.

We are playing Norwood on Sunday.

It's the fact that the coaches essentially consider McEntee the [emoji6]th best player on the list

Correct, it reminded me of last years finals when I started to see McCheese name as emergency, next minute….

AFL website tells me these were Collingwood's Ins for 2025

Joel Cochran (No.47 draft pick), Will Hayes (No.56 draft pick), Dan Houston (trade, Port Adelaide), Tim Membrey (delisted free agent), Harry Perryman (free agent, Greater Western Sydney), Charlie West (No.50 draft pick)

Of those who is the player that makes Houston 'arguably' the Pies biggest recruit? Which one of those is creating an argument?

Dan Houston as a 2x All Australian is 'arguably' the biggest recuit of the last trade season for all teams. Not just Collingwood.

And its only arguable because of a couple of multi-Premiership winning Tigers moving around.

Of which only Bolton has an All Australian.

IMHO Houston was the biggest pick up in the trading period with Shai Bolton being a close enough second.

However, Richmond got two first rounders for him. We didn't.

We will see how the two Joes go to see how we've faired in the trade. If Berry and Richards come out firing, then the trade will look good.

When you round up, for Houston, we got Richards, Atkins, Pick 15 to grab Joe Berry and Pick 33 for Jack Whitlock.

"Arguably" is a journalistic weasel-word journos use to avoid being criticised for forgetting someone. It allows them to make claims without researching it. Sometimes they are correct.

It does the same heavy lifting as 'allegedly'.

Getting back to the game.

I'm worried if Finny or Sweet go down as we don't have a lot of cover.
I like the fact we've gone in smaller against the Pies as they play more smaller and faster.
Can't wait to see Joe Berry play and do something exciting and intelligent.
Also want to see Lukosius dial up a couple from outside 50 or just some super long kicking into the F50 on a dime.
Lets see what Joe Richards can do. He looks to be a good get and better than the small forward shamozzle last year.
Hopefully Powell-Pepper is up to speed. If he starts on the bench, it wouldn't bother me.
I'm hoping Lachie Jones plays a good, tough game down back.
Can the Hornet show Nick Daicos how to play footy in this game? Two of the best young guns in the game.
I hope Sinn can build confidence and play well. I'd love to see him jet off once or twice in the game.
I would prefer others to Burton and Boak but I'm not a melter.
Boak to sub.
Drew to Nick Daicos could end the game for the Pies if Drew wants to lock down.
We might score well but also have hiccoughs with the running out of defence style of gameplan. No big deal. We will still be ironing it out.

I'm worried about Quaynor and Houston running out of defence.
Their small and mid forwards are hard to keep track of but we have the guys to do it.
Hopefully Bobby Hill doesn't go off his rocker. I love watching him play.
Obviously worried about both Daicos lads.

Lots to look forward to.

Go the Power!!!
