Just on the Shep touch goal review.

Was it just me or were they initially showing some clear vision that looked like sheps finger was bent back and half way through they just started showing a very blurry piece of the same footage that was impossible to tell shit from? It was like we went from 1080p to 8 bit graphics!

They were showing the footage on fast -faster fwd to make the review easier .

Although I assume they have better vision than that in the box, and it is getting blurred when converting for broadcast.

Edit: Why would it get blurred more when going from frame-by-frame, to slightly faster frame-by-frame?

Worst for me was the Kennedy in the back for 3 reasons.

1) Kennedy did exceptionally well to make up ground and lay the tackle, I believe in a 50/50 call you should pay towards the player making the play.
2) From what I recall the tackle was executed perfectly until the Pies player dove forward at the last second.
3) Darling had a shot 30m out directly in front from the kick into 50 if the decision had been adjudicated correctly.

absolutely. except it wasn't nearly a 50-50 call. clearly holding the ball. clearly play-on... goal.

Coincidentally, prior to this game I had promised myself I would never moan about the umpiring again. This was after stalking multiple team forums this year and noticing that no matter what happened each team's supporters thought they had the rub of the green go against them. This is particularly the case regarding the free kick count, as it is often a poor indicator of umpiring quality if your team was constantly infringing or the nature of the game caused an imbalanced free count.

This was awful timing considering what myself and all my mates agreed was the worst umpiring we had ever seen. It has also been depressing (or perhaps indicative that my bias is still in play) regarding the complete lack of commentary about this from any experts in the media. The umpiring was also completely ignored in all match reports from this game.

By the end of it, we were just laughing at it because it had become almost (actually not almost) comical. After having the blood vessels in my head repaired by a neurosurgeon, I then rewatched the game yesterday and can confidently report that this didn't change my views.

This was one game where the free kick tally was actually instructive of the problem.

Just awful.

No, no. He barracks for West Coast.
I just hadn't said it yet.
He also put enough money on West Coast winning by 1-39.5 pts that he still made money for the night (if only a little).
But, as you'd know, the payout on the 39.5 + was fairly significant.
Just to be absolutely ridiculous .....
I wonder if umps put money on collingwood vs eagles games or margin knowing they could give 3 times as many decisions without any recourse . If ever you were gonna match fix it would be an eagles collingwood game .

One of the 'best tweets' that Robbo publishes every Monday alluded to the terrible umpiring. Only thing I have seen about it, except for Leccas 'above the knee' kick in the weekly "If you dont mind umpire" video.

Sadly the whole commentary team was going for Collingwood. Ricchuito hates West Coast and openly barracks for anybody they play.
I Think Ricciuoto is ok normally , I was even disappointed with Huddo for the first time , he was collingwood centric but derm a sperm infects , not sure if why he hates us is the cheers we gave when woosh cleaned him up or the fact that he has a show with eddie ( i think it still goes on fox ) and he wants to appeal to Victorians .

can anyone post that tweet ? would be good to see . maybe i should learn the twitter thing

Interesting point.

Question for any medical people- what would he have to do to manage it during a game? insulin injections? extra sugar?
I'm not a medic, Jake, but certainly an insulin dependent diabetic. Every rest his blood sugar level would be checked (A pricked finger) and if necessary a sugary substance taken by mouth. Certainly not given more insulin as this removes sugar from the bloodstream, and would push him towards a hypo.

Thankfully the AFL has launched a full enquiry into the touched ball that was awarded a goal. Including Fox's role in obscuring the vision. Not. In any event eat shit cheating Victorian scum fux you very much.
Great to hear. Where did you get that info?

Edit: Just re-read your post.. Thanks for getting my hopes up

I have watched the replay 3 times already. You see, I just love beating the pies. And everytime i watch it, the bias to the pies becomes more blatant. I hope serious questions are asked about the umpiring from this game.

Just to be clear, I am also with the other poster regarding conspiracy theories. There isn't a snowball's chance that this is an actual conspiracy or even something the umpires consciously decided to do. The possible range of scenarios would be -

1. They just had a bad game, which, by pure chance happened to consistently go against us (remember, it is possible, albeit unlikely, to roll 10 6s in a row with dice)
2. They were subconsciously influenced by their desire to do something which would result in 30,000+ people roaring with approval or to avoid doing something which would result in some toothless creature (no doubt high on Robitussin or Bath Salts*) jumping over the fence and king hitting them

Just curious, after a game like this, do the umpires get reprimanded or is there at least some process for them to be accountable to their bosses? That would at least potentially fill the hollow void their incompetence has left inside me.

* - Note, this is pure speculation on my part.

Umpires work/are treated just like players.
They are professionals now and make more money then you or me.

They have their games reviewed via video. There are umpire observers in the crowd at every game.
Only the best (think All Australian) umpires for the year get to umpire finals.
This is for field, boundary and goal umpires. They all have their own boss, each group, in each state.

I think the problem with this game in perticular wasn't that they umpired poorly, more that it was against a big Victorian club so the media don't make any noise about it meaning the fans and AFL flogs don't notice it.
I bet the three men listed a few posts up know about the quality of their performance.

Honorable mention goes out to the 3rd umpire for the Sheppard touched ball decision.

Anyone find it strange when zero free kicks was called in the third quarter?

They showed the free kick count on the big screen at the end of the third and I noticed it was still 17 - 6 like it was at halftime.

West coast happened to dominate possession for most of the quarter and there were 6 or 7 opportunities for the umps to blow the whistle.

Logically this meant the free kick count was 7 - 2 against us in the fourth and we only received two free kicks for the last half of the game..

Not to mention the shitty reviews and non-reviews.

I hope the Purana task force was taking note.

What's worse is that they obviously went in at half time and discussed the fact they had been making some bad calls, so they all decided to put the whistle away for a quarter...
Thats some pretty subjective umpiring going on

For the record the Umps were :

Scott Jeffery
Mathew Nicholls
Andrew Stevens

Just did a quick google search of worst umpire and big footy threads from 2013 about Mathew Nicholls came up.
He gets a run this weekend.Scott Jeffery gets two gigs this weekend and poor Andrew Stevens misses out.
Anyway onwards and upwards for the Eagles.Really looking forward to the next month of games
