yes, and with NFL Europe they are to a certain extent.
I knew a guy who represented Australia in baseball. He went on and got a contract overseas. Was pretty good too. But unknown here. Look at Jason Dunstall. Virtually unknown in his home state, but what a magnificent contribution he was able to make in the VFL.
Sure, there are plenty of globally played games that don't have to brag about being a "World Game".
As for soccer being world game, look at the maps on the FIFA site, it is popular in Europe and South America and a rabble everywhere else ... does that really constitute a "World Game". Yet it is the closest thing to it, so it can generate the hype.
None of us (except for soccer fans) have delusions of global domination. All we want to see is for the game to achieve a wider appeal, which to a certain extent it is doing.
