Until the junior fees are brought down to manageable levels nothing is changing IMO. This side of things is getting worse^^^^^ X100
The attitude is "Just get to the World Cup, and fill the coffers...that's all that counts!".
I'm serious when I say the best jolt to the system would be for us to miss out on 2026...things might actually get done to improve the level of Australian football.
SA state league is expanding and huge amateur league clubs (with 2-3 teams per age group) are applying to join. If they're in, junior fees will go from $250 to $800+ and we're not talking clubs in affluent suburbs here. What do they get for their money? It's still a Dad coaching, the extra cash just goes to the first team. This needs complete overhaul but how can we when A-League clubs lose money?! So many talented kids fall through the cracks in this bullshit system
There's no trickle down, we fund the game from the bottom up. Only country in the world doing this to my knowledge and it's wrong. If we failed to qualify they sack a couple board members, some fringe exec positions will change (still hire their mates to replace), maybe Poppa walks. What really gets fixed though?
We're going nowhere, this is it now (bolded). You've nailed it, we have zero further ambition than this. Self interest at higher levels has ****ed us
