I hated yesterday's commentary when Gerard would mention how North had dal, LMAC, wells, grima and hansen out of our best line up then say how worried we must be being virtually full strength while Hawks were missing Langford, McEvoy and then threw shoey in there! I felt sick then after we actually won it turned to how impressive our depth is! Pathetic

Dwayne Russell's voice has always given me the shits...even if he had great things to say I'd probably still refuse to listen based on the grating voice of his. Brian Taylor is downright crap, Bruce was once great but now is past his use-by date, likewise with Cometti. Luke Darcy is garbage.

Anthony Hudson I don't mind, Drew Morphett was fantastic and I think now finds himself without a gig.....yet Brian Taylor still does. Go figure. Clinton Grybas was brilliant, and Sandy Roberts is great too.

The sad thing is that the shit commentators outweigh the great ones by a country mile.

Agree with the carey comment, really knows his stuff. And the death of grybas was not only tragic for family and friends but footy in general, just about the only reason i turned my radio on was to listen to him.

Commentary was good today. Called us a top 4 team and that our disposal, decision making going forward is the only thing holding us back (no, never).

Mentioned plenty of times, that we were missing: Wells, Higgins, Dal, Hansen, Mcdonald and said this was a possible Grand Final preview.

The media saturation of the sport is at such a level that there is a dilution of legitimately talented sportscasters.

Too often commentators don't call the actual game rather they wander into a territory of inane banter and sexual inuendo.

I didn't really pay great attention to the commentary vs Hawthorn I didn't need to I heard Dwayne and Gerard and actively ignored it.

The find the vast majority of callers to be caricatures and calling a game is a performance rather than trying to be legitimately informative. We are transitioning from sport to sports entertainment.

The vast majority are looking to be the person who calls the highlight that gets replayed ad nauseum. As a direct result of this we end up with every high flying mark being called as "mark of the year" or we see significant injuries to high profile players "he may have just dropped the brownlow", all in an effort to what? Call it first? just call the game.

There also seems to be another thing at play where they are looking to have elements of their commentary be clearly identifiable as theirs we will call this doing a Brian Taylor, where you don't need to be particularly good at it you just have to say the same inane bullshit every time you call. Big Boy McAvoy, Big Boy McAvoy, He has missed moments in games because he is going on with this sctick, just call the game. No one wants to hear you go on about yourself appointed nickname of a player when the lead is about to change. Its not clever or smart and detracts from the game.

Nothing in commentary make me feel as sick to the stomach as listening to Cometti and McAvaney, the under current of double entendre and inuendo, has no place in the broadcast of the sport.
