George Wardlaw (North Melbourne)

We saw glimpses of what George Wardlaw is capable of during the course of last season.

The no.4 pick from the 2022 draft, who played eight times in his debut 2023 campaign, had Kangaroos fans gushing with excitement through 18 appearances in 2024.

Wardlaw attacks the ball with a maniacal ferocity, putting his head in holes that not many are willing to. He can win his own footy and tackles tenaciously.

His performance against Collingwood when he had 30 touches and was awarded two Brownlow votes is a sign of things to come.

It may be a little early to expect Wardlaw to truly go to the next level in just his third season, but from what we have witnessed so far he certainly has the scope to step up again.

Andrew Slevison

I knew we had a beauty when he single-handedly gang-tackled Luke Parker in his first season.

Loved everything about his game. The complete player. If he had a full career he would have gone down as one of the greats. I actually struggle to think he had any flaws.
Agree. Incredible kick on both sides, ridiculous overhead mark for his size. Clean hands, moved like a cat. Gutted injury robbed him of a longer career.

I reckon only 2 other players, that I can remember, made the game look as easy as Winnie did.

The Duck & Keith Greig. These types never looked like they were going absolutely flat out, but just made others look stupid and inept by comparison.

He got Parker a beauty again today.

Tackled, rolled around, dispossessed, got up and ran away

Howdy all…..hope you all had a brilliant start to the year….l took some time away ….still have plenty to sort…but that’s for another time.
I see on channel 7 there’s an upcoming story on Mr Selwood at the Roos…anyone know anything about it.
And thank goodness it’s 25…bring on the season…can’t wait.

Visiting the club in his new engagement role at the AFL. Just a short bit of vision but no one seemed at all interested in him.

That ability to keep his feet or get up and bounce in any direction is close to one of Wardlaw's most elite traits. Will win him so many contests that other players wouldn't dream of winning IMO.

Yeah 100%, it hard to explain, the way he sort of just rolls with the contest is not like something I’ve seen before, it’s not pretty by any stretch, but he kind of just follows the footy, bouncing off people, getting possession, losing possession but maintaining the pace of the footy and he either ends up with the footy or tackling whoever gets it. Keeping his feet plays a huge role, but he even does it when he hits the deck and he’s back on his feet in a split second.

Freak.
