'Essential' is absolutely one of them.
I reckon an interest rate drop will certainly wipe out any chance of the LNP.

I have to chuckle at certain sections of the community that get riled up about the 26 th of Jan being the one true date….for goodness sake take a history lesson or google and you will find that this date was not when Australia Day was celebrated.

As for the day itself….wether it’s today or moved else where…it should be a day that unifies us, not divide us.
A day for taking the time to celebrate with family and friends whilst we have the opportunity to do so.
A day we take the time to celebrate our achievements as a nation, and have conversations with your kids about the good, bad and ugly of being an Australian. No point in hiding certain aspects if you want them to be critical thinkers….not followers.
A day for sharing your passions whether it be tinkering with your car, listening to your favourite musos, researching famous Aussie inventors or people of note from our country, or watching a repeat of your favourite sporting moment and explaining to them what it meant to you. You get the idea.
A day for remembering those that have passed on…sharing thoughts about them with others.
Certainly not a day for politicians to play political blame games.
Or just having a decent meal with those who are close to you and be thankful you live in a country not being blasted to daylights, run by a dictatorship or many other things currently happening around our world.
Wether it stay on this date or is moved personally l don’t care. Some sections of society has some growing up to do…we’re not perfect but for goodness sake whatever they decided it should be a day of respect, inclusiveness and tolerance of all nationalities/ cultures ect who live in our country.
Whatever you do with the day make it yours…
And to quote our sam from the lamb advert of 2025….get out of the comments section and get some cutlets into ya.

Many Aussies are adamant Australia Day has always been celebrated on January 26, the moment British boots landed on Aussie soil - but this isn't actually the case.

Yeah, it will swing a fair bit before the election yet.
The trajectory seems to being going with Dutton, but that could change.
It’s probably largely irrelevant anyway considering the election will likely be won or lost on preferences, which that is certainly advantage ALP.
Scomo getting the bath he did in 2022 is probably too much to make up after one term.

The club's statement re today always gets criticised and rightfully so when they'll acknowledge other days of significance in the calendar but not Australia Day.
There would have been a time 10-15 years ago when the club on its website, twitter would have acknowledged Australia Day. Now however like all the other clubs have to fall in line with the expectations from the AFL, sponsors and just the general demeanour of a small loud minority on the internet.
It's stock holm syndrome and it's cowardly.
Why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't the club's support Australia Day and its indigenous players simultaneously?
I read the club's statement earlier today and see more phrases/buzz words popping up again. In years gone by it was for example 'always was always will be' (which is kinda like in footy terms blaming the umps for a loss when you lose by a 100+ points). These days it's 'truth telling'. What does 'truth telling' mean exactly? Like what can be said that hasn't already been said before and how does it apply to the people of today? Is it just a way to put mayo on a baiting statement?
Outside of the club re Australia Day I'm opened minded regarding a date change. Other than Easter, Christmas and several other dates in the year....Australia Day could be any day. The only issue I have is that changing it won't change the toxic, hatred towards a national day for Aussies. It won't stop protests, vandalism of statues/memorials and just the highjacking of the day.
Days like today are a reminder that some people hate the tree but are happy to eat the fruit that it bares.
I acknowledge and pay respect to my ancestors
who came to this land that played a small role in
introducing democracy, prosperity and peace
to Australia

You extol democracy but hate when people exercise it, and loathe protests.
Reminder: nobody is stopping you from celebrating. You get a public ****ing holiday to do so. The club chooses not to. Deal with it.

This argument is incredibly specious imo. We are all products of our culture/time/environment in an ever increasingly globalised world. What do you expect people to do when they disagree with some aspect of the world they were born into? Simply vanish into the wilderness?
It’s possible to realise we are very lucky to live in a relatively prosperous society compared to many other corners of the world, but also recognise the amount of horror and bloodshed that led to it rather than just stick fingers in our ears because it’s uncomfortable to think about (or have a worse attitude). Many people just find it difficult to reconcile these two things which is what makes any sort of celebration such a contentious issue.
