How do you know?

I’ve been around here long enough to know that outside the bubble of 100 or so posters on here that the Club warned players off here because of the negativity some time back

Sonja was on here once. I reckon she wouldn’t be coming in here after the trolling she took on socials

Euge drops in now and then but he ain’t with the Club

Heath headed off with his bat n ball so he ain’t with the Club

Player sponsor is attached to this Board so maybe someone in that arrangement can enlighten us?

So I dunno…you tell me who you were writing to from the Club on here?

this is just an open void for north melbourne members/supporters. If they do come in here then so be it.

Players do read socials, they’re told not too but they do. Instas, facebook, twitter they all do because majority of them are narcissistic or simply curious. Remember, they consider themselves “brands”

Across the AFL there would be people that look around social media to find out what members and fans think.

Whether a club official does? Who knows, to say NO ONE I think is naive

I completely 100% agree with changing the date as I personally feel uncomfortable with celebrating when hundreds and thousands of people started losing their lives, their homes and livelihood.

However I still feel a right to celebrate this great country we live in. I don't get into all this Aussie flag boganship or sh** like that but I still feel I'd like to still enjoy a quiet beer or two at the local pub to celebrate living in this great country.

Answer the question

Who were aiming for at the Club?

The Club or shit stirring?

I’m going with shit stirring

You obviously know a bit about politics and know that this is a lightning rod topic; Club has reiterated the same position they did last year and the year before

But you did the CSA for us all to repost here to light todays fire

👏 well done, you got your outcome yet again

If you don't say anything about;
  • ANZAC game
  • Sir Doug Nicholls round
  • Dreamtime at the G
  • Good Friday football/long-time lack of
  • Sydney/St Kilda 'pride' match
  • King's Birthday match
  • Police 'Blue Ribbon' cup match
  • Emergency Services match
  • And all the similar fixtures
Then you don't really give a shit about "separating politics and football!". You just don't like political things that you don't personally support.

Look, in my younger years, I used to hold what I now consider very sh1tty views. Even then, the only significance I attached to this particular date back then was that it pissed off the 'other side' to my politics.

I am grateful that I do not hold those views anymore. With an epiphany of empathy, I began to understand that we simply can't have a date to celebrate our country if that date is so obviously awful for its original inhabitants, and something which often goes unsaid, is also so closely linked to the British Empire ripping its underprivileged citizens from their homelands and deporting them to the other side of the world. It's madness.

It really is absolutely not a big ask for Australia to pick a date that includes all and isn't a stark reminder of all the pain and loss that they've been through, and yet it would help so much.

The only thing stopping this change is childish team sport politics, IMO.

This is the prominent view, keep the holiday, pick a random day July to September
Happy where it is ... a sunny day far outweighs any gloomy day in July.

This argument is incredibly specious imo. We are all products of our culture/time/environment in an ever increasingly globalised world. What do you expect people to do when they disagree with some aspect of the world they were born into? Simply vanish into the wilderness?
It’s possible to realise we are very lucky to live in a relatively prosperous society compared to many other corners of the world, but also recognise the amount of horror and bloodshed that led to it rather than just stick fingers in our ears because it’s uncomfortable to think about (or have a worse attitude). Many people just find it difficult to reconcile these two things which is what makes any sort of celebration such a contentious issue.
Another buzz word/phrase that's shown its head again.

'Recognise'

We need to 'Recognise' & 'Truth Telling'.

Why can't people get to nitty gritty of what they're talking about instead of using buzz words/phrases. It's because everything has been said and at ad nauseam levels. And it's been backed up with apologies in Government House, acknowledgments at every government press conference & sporting events, welcome to country(s), Flags at all police stations, government buildings, sporting venues...welfare benefits.

We give and give and give and it's never good enough.

Here's question -

What do people think the indigenous population life was like before the first fleet came to our shores? You think canniballism wasn't a thing back then? You think democracy & feminism were strong character traits? The killings among different tribes for food & women didn't happen?

Oh yeah we're really getting into 'truth telling' now....

But hey....let's just focus on what all them white fellas did....because it's easy and fashionable to do in today's world.

A lot of you will demanding your own sorry day soon enough.

“On this day we commemorate having to read a social media post that made us feel a bit guilty…”.

How about December 3rd? Eureka Stockade?

Hear me out, when miners of all backgrounds European, Asian, Indigenous, and all other cultures made a stand against the tyranny of the police at the time as mates back in 1854.

Given that Australia is such a multicultural country and our matesmanship. January 26th also wasn't the birth of a nation either.

How does this stuff seep into more and more threads? People can’t behave talking about this stuff and so a thread gets shut down, so the talk then just begins in another thread. Really unappealing for those of us who just want to talk footy.
I like Harry Sheezel.

Go Roos!

Hence keep the public holiday
I swore allegiance to Queen and Country, and have plenty of mates done the same. Have mates naturalised on Australia Day. Have served with Indigenous folk with the exact same swearing of allegiance, spent most of my adult life playing footy with them, up and down the country ... I have no time for racism nor division. It's the best country on the planet. it was built by the hard work and industry of folk from near and far, based on the foundations of what England brought. We've modified it as we go, grown it, made it better. Places all over the world have sh1t histories, be they black, white or wherever in between. People are deadset c@nts to people .... history tells us this.

For me the day is to celebrate the great country we have, that many have fought for, that it has become. The politics, agendas, naysayers and sooks are failing, or refusing to see how good the joint where we live actually is. Imo.
