According to Emma Qualye on twitter, Freo have secured Tendai Mzungu and GC's pick 44 for pick 38.

For those Vics unfamiliar with him Tendai is a very gifted half back type, about 22 -23 I think.

The Fremantle Dockers have pulled off their second steal of the AFL trade week, picking up reigning Perth Demons best and fairest Tendai Mzungu in a deal with the Gold Coast.

The Dockers gave up pick 38 in return for Mzungu and pick 44 after the Suns selected him as one of their pre-listed players.

Re: Tendai Mzungu to Freo

Has the AFL advised GC to help Freo out for all of their blundering trade deals of the past?

Why would GC help out another team, with no benefit? If you can't get stronger, then why would you want your competition to get stronger?

Re: Tendai Mzungu to Freo

Downgrade 6 spots to pick up a guy that releases Broughton and Duffield for short stints in the midfield.

Straight into our best 22. Stoked.

Re: Tendai Mzungu to Freo

Yet they want the compensation pick for Cam Richardson.

Go figure.

Re: Tendai Mzungu to Freo

he'll be 25 by the time next season starts so he's a bit older than our other mature agers

but he'll definitely slot straight in, probably off half back/wing

Re: Tendai Mzungu to Freo

Also gives us the pick after Collingwood. So tomorrow you might hear "trade us pick 43 for Taz because you will need to use it anyway on him cos otherwise we will pick him up on pick 44"

GOLD Coast is playing an unexpected 'facilitator' role in trade week with other clubs keen to take advantage of its ability to pre-list players.

As part of the new club's concessions, Gold Coast can sign up to 10 players who have previously nominated for the NAB AFL Draft or been on an AFL list before 2010.

Football manager Marcus Ashcroft said Gold Coast had fielded plenty of phone calls from other clubs looking to gain an edge ahead of this year's draft.
...

"I guess as trade week has evolved other clubs have seen it as a chance to get a more experienced player, in the mould of a Michael Barlow, onto their list who can play at the level right away.
...

"Obviously a few of those trades have already gone ahead, so if clubs are interested in trying to acquire a player in that category, then we've been able to facilitate a deal."

Nice bit of irony there DeZi. They've handed two players to your club too - Krakouer and Ceglar - through the exact same process.

Would Freo want to burn pick 44 like that? Because there's no way Tarrant will play for them in 2011.

I can see the theory, but I don't think the Pies would fall for it.

Maybe it will end up Taz and 44 for 43 and 55.

That way both clubs get something out of the deal... Freo get 43 like they have asked for; but Collingwood really only give away 55, while just swapping places in the 40s with Freo. Freo saves some face, Collingwood don't look like total trading w***ers. Maybe.

We have to take 3 picks don't we?

Question to anyone out there -If we pick Tarrant and then he retires, can we then upgrade Casey Sibosado or another rookie that might show something offseason imediately? (Assuming if we re-rookie him?) The thought ocurred because it would have been nice to upgrade him but we just can't get rid of enough players on the main list and have the 3 obligatory picks....

Re: Tendai Mzungu to Freo

Tarrant won't be aloud to nominate for the draft, he has said that he'll retire if he can't get to the Pies so the AFL won't let him nominate for the draft, if a trade can't be worked out I would suggest he'll retire tomorrow afternoon.

Yup we gave up Pick 25 and got Krakouer and Ceglar + Pick 43...oh wait

We paid for our players...you guys just get a small downgrade of like 6 picks...most likely the player you guys are after with your picks will still be there 6 picks later...

Rookie upgrades count as one of the 3 picks. Fremantle don't have to participate in the draft at all if they choose not to.

Re: Tendai Mzungu to Freo

I thought all clubs have to use at least 3 picks?

They changed the rules because of GC and GWS. You still need to have the minimum 3 player 'turnover' but rookie upgrades are counted as a draft selection - they just get added to the end of the draft after the club has taken it's final selection.

Sweet thanks, overlooked that...way too many changes with GC and GWS coming in
