I had the pleasure of meeting Chris Mainwaring at the Grand Final last year.. He was polite, friendly and happily got a photo taken with me.. It completely topped of the day for me.. Meeting a legend of our club and winning the grand final..

The circumstances and rumours of how he died are irrelevant.. We have lost a true champion of our club... This is the darkest day for our club by a long way.. Forget the cousins and kerrs' sagas, judd leaving etc... there is a young family that doesn't have a father anymore...

That is the perspective...

It is heartbreaking

Met Mainy a million times and honestly he was by far one of the nicest blokes there is off the field. One of the best we have ever had.

As people said sounds like a heart attack, and its pretty disgusting IMO that we all found out about the news before his wife did. I was speaking to Gary Shannahnn this morning. He found out about the news at around 6AM but decided like most at 6PR to wait until everyone had been informed. SEN and Sky news however decided to start reporting it the second they heard. Pathetic people

Absolutely shattered. I only met Mainy twice - thru my son having a photo taken with him but felt I knew him - thru his football exploits and the fact that he was on our TV screens each night. Cannot believe that he is gone. A legend of the club and the AFL. Thinking of his wife and children.

Out of all our ex players last years flag meant more to him then any other and seeing him celebrate in the rooms with all the other players was one of the highlights for me

i was saddend to hear of the passing of Chris. Even as an opposition supporter he was one player i would like to watch.
Deepest condolences to his family and to eagles fans.

Sad news. Wonderful footballer to watch in some great Eagles sides. Gone far, far too young. Condolences to family, friends & fans alike.

Gees, just found out that Chris Mainwaring has left us.

He was the Ben Cousins of the early ninetees - and he typified everything about the Eagles healthy surf loving outdoor loving image.

He was one of the legends in establishing the EAGLES culture and tradition.

Condolences to his family and friends.

Threads like this make you wish the work f**k was allowed.

RIP Mainy - you're a stupid, stupid idiot, but you sure could play footy.
You insensitive imbecile, you don't know the circumstances surrounding the tragic loss of Mainy
Condolences to the family, and the WCE fraternity
RIP

Condolences to his family.

There is no "good side" to something like this however, if the rumours have any basis in fact, this may be the catalyst needed to convince footy players in Perth once and for all that drugs are a bad thing.

It won't bring him back but if, as a result of this, other young players who may have tried/continued to use drugs now don't do them at all then something valuable will have come from the tragedy.

Not just footy players in perth, footy players all around the country and even non footy players.

I think the impact will be far greater in Perth. With due respect, a kid in Melbourne is less likely to be influenced than someone in Perth by Mainwaring's situation.

If I were you I would forget the rumours because the whole thing is still under investigation. Hey we know Mainy passed away and he is going to be missed but for the journos to go and write an article basing Mainy's death around Ben Cousins is just plain wrong. Many people will go around and have a field day on this rumour but it is nothing but a false claim.

RIP Mainy. A top bloke, my best memory of him was not even on the footy field.

On the same weekend he played his 200th game, I was playing my 100th in Juniors. My mum rang up 94.5 and asked if he would meet with me. He happily did and gave me a free book of his signed and spoke to me for half an hour to an hour about making the most of the time you had in juniors.

Absolute ripper of a person.

Such a shame.

A great player and even more importantly a great person has sadly left us way before he should.
May he RIP. To his family, to West Coast and to everyone who loved this bloke my thoughts are with you.
You know I've heard a lot of West Coast people saying what an awful year they've had and I thought at least you didnt get the spoon but I would rather see Richmond win 100 wooden spoons than see one of our players pass away like this, my sincere condolences
