I remember when Jack came back in 1988. We played the Bays in a pre-season game in Robe. They beat us comfortably and at half time Jack gave the players an absolute spray for being so meek. The change rooms weren't all that soundproof. :D

The bays had smacked us around a few times under Russell as coach and Jack made it clear that was unacceptable and wouldn't happen any more on his watch.

It was not about stupid thuggery but not taking any crap from them and hurting them in any contest for the ball. We soon sorted that out. :thumbsu:

Gentleman Jack maybe, but with steel capped dress shoes ;)

His brief time coaching Collingwood is interesting, says they were a rabble off field & some players there he wouldn't have given a game at Port, still takes them from 11th to 3rd in two years & resigns after a heavy prelim loss. Collingwood probably cost themselves a flag or two by not having their shit together around him.

Jack is a winner and he imparted that on the players. I was lucky enough to have been support staff during the 90s starting with Buckleys first year 1991. Jack generally cool and calm but direct. I love the bloke. Nothing will ever rival that time for me.

My memory of John Cahill's two years at collingwood is that he resigned due to being absolutely fed up with being continually back stabbed, and specifically by Lou Richards and his brother.

He knew it was time to get out of Dodge after the prelim final, he wasn't waiting for the knock on the door at midnight.

From the first day I heard John Cahill speak about football I realised I could listen to him all day.

What ever happened when Jack Cahill went back to South Adelaide? He quit after 6 games I think.
The players had been conditioned to being in a comfy environment for so long, that when JC went there, and attempted to develop a winning mindset and hard nosed approach to training and on-field, they rebelled and said they wanted him out'a there!

Amazingly, Club management agreed, and sided with the players o_O:huh:

Not sure if Jack quit in frustration, or was given the DCM, but whatever it was, he left.

And ................................. the club has achieved nothng in the past two decades since then.

Karma bus strikes back :roflv1:
