Difference is, Symes could actually find the football at AFL level.

My dog can find a tennis ball in the backyard but he can't play tennis. :p

The only name that comes to mind is Frank Thring that one time English actor that appeared on Aussie TV so he may have even been an Aussie?

Frank Thring was Australian.

We've had previous PAFC listed players who finished their careers with us who then went on to win Magareys shewho

2012 - Brad Symes
2009 - James Ezard

That's not the point. He's 26, in peak physical condition, playing the best footy of his career, and over the last 2 years has shown good AFL form in struggling teams. He never got a run in a functional midfield. Look at the change in Logan this year when he was brought into a functioning team and given an extended go. Thomas played well in a losing team then got dropped.

His disposal efficiency at SANFL level was elite (80%) and he is a proven ball winner.

Thomas got 3 votes in round 23 against North Adelaide

He had 10 possessions in that game. Therefore he almost scored 1 vote for every 3 possessions. :)

Once again proving that umpires should not be casting votes on the Magarey and Brownlow medals.

Congratulations Matty. Another AFL club will pick him up. Surely Melbourne or GWS will grab him.

Geez you are going on with rubbish about Matt Thomas.

He has shown his wares on the AFL stage & they have been proven to be inadequate, so he's gone.

Live with it.

Last year, when Thomas had his last real chance and he played one of the best individual games of the year against Carlton, these players were also "proven" to be inadequate-

Logan
O'Shea
Trengove
Carlile
Lobbe
Pittard

Truth is their inadequacies werent "proven", they were in a bad set up. I won't win the argument because Thomas critics are judging him by 2011 performances. Hinkley never gave him a chance so we will never know how his form at the end of the year (18 votes in his last 8 games) would have translated to AFL form.

Pity, because 18 votes from the last 8 games is the best form any Port player has had in the SANFL since we entered the AFL.

He had 28 possessions - 8 kicks and 20 handballs. He took 6 marks and laid 6 tackles with 7 clearances.

On the AdelaideNow live blog before the votes were read out the consensus was he would get the 3 votes. Don't know where you get your 10 possession figure?

Andrew Moore got a few votes didn't he?

That provision doesn't have much use for us this year then. Brettbert doesn't seem too interested in playing SANFL and nobody else we've cut from the list is over 28, so I suppose if we use that provision it'll be on a current Magpie player.

Logan or Cassisi might be a good option as our leadership player in 2015.

Getting in a tad early on next years delistings there Festy.:p

Looks like the SANFL website is wrong then

Man ....bmt.....if only if you stepped up into afl.....congrats

I wouldn't have to change my account

Haha! I wondered who the newbie was.

Good name. (BTW, couldn't you just change the name on the old account?)

Well done Matty. :thumbsu:

Good luck at Richmond.
If he doesn't get picked up by Richmond or some other AFL club, he'd be an absolutely ideal captain for the reserves side.
Heard him on the radio this morning talking about his love for the Norwood FC. Why would he now quit Norwood to come and play in the reserves for the club that delisted him?

The last two Margery Medals simply shows the gulf between AFL and the "second best competition in Australia".
They also highlight the integrity of the SNAFL competition.

Mitch Grigg could have won the Magarey last night if not for a late season call up to the Cows.

.... Remarkably, quality midfielder Grigg led the count with 18 votes after 14 rounds but he did not front again for Norwood after being summoned to the AFL by Adelaide. .......

If this was his career best form, thank god we pissed him off. Whenever I watched him at SANFL level, he was underwhelming. Had exactly the same weaknesses at AFL level, but got more of the ball. Being messy with disposal at SANFL level is expected, hence why he ended up with this award. I'd be very surprised if another club picks him up.
