As mentioned in a previous thread, the wife, kids and I are travelling around Aust in a caravan, we are over four months in, and we are currently in the Nth West of WA. Anyway we just spent the day at Coral Bay and cannot believe how such a beautiful place is so unknown to most Australians. Would have loved to spend a week there, we are staying in Exmouth, but we couldnt get in as the whole town is booked out for the next month due to school holidays.

Coral Bay is situated on the Ningaloo Reef in North West WA, and believe it is on par with the Great Barrier Reef. The town itself is tiny with a few shops two caravan parks, and a motel, not even sure if there is a pub. But the beach which is within walking distance of all the accommodation is picturesque soft white sand crystal clear blue water, and just metres from the shore is beautiful coral and fish etc that you can snorkel amongst.

We have been to most of the big name places in Vic, NSW, ACT, Qld, and NT, and Coral Bay is one of the few that we would come back to a spend an extended amount of time at.I hope that the town stays as it is and does not become overly commercialized.

I could write more but fear my words are inadequate.

I went up there recently myself with a bunch of friends and it was pure bliss. Also stayed in Exmouth, swam with the whale sharks, humpback whales, manta rays, dolphins all in a days work.

Pretty unique holiday and exceeded my expectations tenfold. It's also got a great laid back atmosphere and I have to agree; I'm glad they haven't over-commercialized it.

Appreciate and understand what you are saying but this seems to contradict itself?

It's true though, even booked out there'd still be less than a thousand people in the peak season, including the towns inhabitants. Try to get up there at least once a year, beautiful place and the fishing is superb.

Wait till you hit the SW OP, best region in the state :thumbsu:

Coral Bay, Ningaloo, Red Bluff...?
Places are crap. Don't even go there. Or tell anyone. Waste of time. Overrated. Not even nice. Too hot. Too Isolated. Heaps better places to visit. Go there instead. Yeah, SW WA is where it's at. NW is crap. Don't even go there. Or tell anyone. Waste of time. Overrated. Not even nice. Too hot...;)

Would love to go there, last trip to WA we drove from Perth to Monkey Mia, unfortunately we didn't have enough time to make it all the way to Coral Bay before we had to head back. It's definitely my next trip!

On second thoughts this guy is right don't go there or tell anyone about it...

really? personally thought Monkey Mia was a waste of time, yeah the dolphins were nice but that's about it.

It's a thousand kilometres from Perth let alone the 'eastern' cities.

Pretty out of the way for most people who just want to spend a week next to a beach.

True enough, but I think you're deliberately understating the beauty of the place. Ningaloo Reef is probably the most accessible natural wonder in Australia and is rightfully World Heritage listed.

People travel to cairns etc and then travel two hours on a boat to visit the reef for one day but a coral bay the reef is meters from the shore and the beach is meters from the town

There is a pub, it's within the hotel so if you didn't wander in there it's not surprising that you missed it. There is also great fishing in the area, always a bit to catch off of Maud's Landing. Sadly, the more time goes by, the further out you have to go.

I'm interested to see what affect the new residential buildings will have on Coral Bay, was still in the planning stage when I went up there last year so I'm not sure how far along they are. From what I read they're only seasonal?

From what I understand some of it is accommodation for workers during the busy seasons

Was up there earlier this year - amazing place. Really astoundingly beautiful.
