Corey Ellis or Jayden short?

Both still young at 21 (Short) and 20 (Cellis). Wouldn't be ruling one of them out entirely.

Short is a gun back-flanker when he's up and going and Cellis needs to start finding his own footy in order to take his talents toward the midfield/wing/half forward. We have enough mid-turned-halfback-flanker types in Bellis and Vlastuin, so it'd benefit us greatly if Corey could carve out a role further up the ground.

Broad is the guy who probably isn't best 22.

Cellis. Younger (slightly), significantly taller, more class and better disposal. Just more upside in general. That said, we're comparing a first round draft pick with a rookie pick. Kudo's to Short who is even in the conversation, despite arguably not being as naturally gifted!

Reckon Broad may do a Lambert and find a role somehow

Different players. They can both play imo. Corey is meant to be a mid but his confidence and his body haven't grown.
He'll be better for the run of games though and if he can complete a pre season then I'd expect him to be best 22.

I have really enjoyed seeing Broad play well in the seniors but i agree, as soon as Short finds some form in the VFL, he will be in for Broad.

Great to finally have some depth.
first time with some depth since 95, fantastic stuff

CEllis is really an inside mid with great disposal. To be that he has to get a bit stronger and work harder.

Short is a running player. Preferably off half back.

Both are currently playing a similar role, due to CEllis filling a hole whilst he develops. Short is a good player, and could become a very good player. CEllis can become a very important piece of the team. But he had to step up his ability to deal with AFL level contact to really use his strengths.

Wish you wouldn't say that. Generally when people say that we cop two injuries and the Twos get smacked by 70 points ;)
Ive been making calls like that since round 1.
Still hasnt backfired on me yet
Im backing the boys till the death #lidsoff ;)

Both players are just beginning, as is Broad who has come into the conversation. CEllis is such a natural footballer, but will need time to develop because he doesn't have the speed to get himself out of trouble, or to chase and get into space. But he has the brains. Don't think he will be there in 3 weeks time, hope I'm wrong. Short is going to be good. Out on a wing for me, speed and balance and great feet. And Broad has really been good. His height and speed separates him from other HB's because in this era of zone defences he is able to peel off and take a tall or a small, like Grimes. Has shown good skills and is tough. With Vlautin back Short is not really need, but will be a weapon up the field.

I see a lot of Matty Knights in Cellis, and it's not just his left foot.
He doesn't have breakaway top end speed, but has a great first step and tends to avoid tackles.
He's balance is elite which allows him to run with the ball as fast as he runs without it.
He has missed a few targets but his kicks move so well through the air it seems to be poor decisions rather than poor kicks. This will improve.
He also seems to get better late in games which is a good sign of improving endurance. He does seem to get less game time than others so this could also be a factor but at least he is using this to his advantage.

There might be room for both in the side but if I had to choose one it would be Corey.

Both have shown a bit. If we were relying on either to finish top ten in the B&F for the Club to improve, well, we'd be stuffed, but both are very handy to have in the VFL.

I reckon Short takes the game on a bit more than he should, while CEllis should take the game on more.

Both could be more physical, more of the time.

(Having said that, I have seen CEllis knocking blokes over at VFL level, so I don't have any concerns about his hunger for a physical contest.)

If I had to pick one, I'd go with CEllis, based purely on what I perceive to be versatility. You could slot him into almost any non-key position.
