So you're not sure what livelihood means.
Huh? Being separated from family doesn't effect your livelihood? There's thousands of medical staff who have been financially affected as well.

The government provides incentives for people to secure their basic needs essential for everyday life whilst in lockdown. Have you had a look overseas? Wouldn't a short effective lockdown for a week be better than 3 months ?

I think you need to go back and real the last page, who I replied to and who I was referencing.

Noone said people in Melbourne didn't have it tough. I'm talking about someone's ability to do business. You went off on a tangent.

Is the WA opposition leader 15 years old with a paint on beard?

Yes, all grown up now - when he was twelve his business card used to say "Future Prime Minister". He's well on the way to emulating his heroes Howard and Abbott in this coming election though.

A disgrace to the name Zak.

Its almost like they want to keep people who have a high likelihood of being sick near medical facilities that have the resources to treat them...

most military bases have hospital capabilities and others have designated hospitals

Just a friendly reminder that because 1 person has a virus, the state government has made it illegal for me to run my business indefinitely (I'm doing it anyway).

I want to move to Sydney so I can be governed by someone with a brain.

I could understand it if there was an end game

but we need to learn to live with covid, rather than thinking we can beat it

And in totally unsurprising news, WA records 0 new cases today.

1 hotel security guard caught the virus off a returned traveller and gave it to nobody and we put 2 million people into lockdown.

What a world.

There is, it's the flatten the curve issue.

Why do people always forget about that!?

It's about keeping things under control until either a vaccine is developed and distributed or it burns out or effective treatments are found.

Shutting down for a few days to prevent a bigger lockdown is a great position to be in.

Was just talking about our little island Ricardo

you should be more specific, if we want to know how tough quarantining is just ask a Victorian. Victorian is the new vegan

Certainly not the Chinese who got welded into their apartment...

On SM-G960F using BigFooty.com mobile app

just a mere flesh wound.

if you want to see how the Chinese government is look at the video of 8,000 Chinese in the lower floor of an airport when they get wind they may all need to be tested. Run for the hills NOW

Lucky it wasn't a super transmissible and deadly strain.

Add me to the list of people who think you are a dick please.

Yes it is, it’s working.
It’s now a case of ‘don’t **** it up’, otherwise every sacrifice up to now wasn’t worth it.

We haven't flattened the curve, we've eliminated the virus completely and will stop at nothing to ensure it remains eliminated.

The problem going forward is going to be asking ourselves how much covid we're prepared to accept in a post vaccine world. The vaccine itself won't eliminate the virus, so how many of our current restrictions will remain and for how long? We're in a strange position where vaccinating our population and then returning life to normal would actually see our infections and deaths go up not down.

A lot will depend upon how effective our vaccination programme is. The current vaccines are supposed to prevent fatalities in the vast majority of the population but who knows if the virus will mutate further and render current vaccines ineffective ? The immunologists are telling us that the vaccine research is continual and that there is every chance that if the virus mutates they will be able to counter it. Let us hope they are right.

The bottom line in the 'back to normal' exercise is of course how well overseas countries get the virus under control. If countries like the US and the UK continue to struggle then Australia and New Zealand may be a COVID free bubble. I can live with that but industries such as travel and the tertiary education sector will struggle to stay viable.

What the world needs is a vaccine that induces the production of T cells that will seek out and kill the COVID cells. Failing that a one shot vaccine that induces immunity to the symptoms of the COVID virus for several years would be great. It seems a bit of a pipe dream but twelve months ago the experts were telling us a vaccine was not likely for a decade. We have to live in hope.

Currently
for 80% this is just a sniffle, 17% a real issue and ~3% death

Post vaccination
90% just a sniffle, 7% a real issue and ~3% death

I hear the arguments the virus spread may reduce but the stats won't change a great deal, unless we find
a) an almost immediate testing system
b) a vaccine that prevents the disease
c) better ways of treating the disease to avoid death

Judging by McGowan's desire to become a police state, with the largest recruitment of police, we are in for interesting times for no logical reason.

There will be, at the moment it is herd immunity via vaccination.
Things change though, the only way to be ready for the end game is to keep Covid at bay, otherwise you have to win that fight first.
Anything that threatens Australia’s current situation needs to be stomped on hard.
The rest of the world would give almost anything to be where we are.

I would agree with you if "herd immunity" meant you could not catch or transmit the disease.

What we have though is a vaccine that hides the symptoms, meaning sick people will go about their daily life spreading the disease.

You will note the same thing happens with influenza, where hospital staff are encouraged to take the vaccine. However this has not translated to better health outcomes for their clients. Thus it is more about keeping the healthy healthy, rather than protecting the vulnerable.

As such we are shutting down to protect the vulnerable now, only to be vaccinated and the inevitable occurs.

FTR I'm pro vax but let's get real
