Hey mods I'm a new poster and have never posted nor followed this thread.

For some reason I have had notifications each and every time a poster has posted on here. This is clogging up my alerts for boards I participate in.

Is there a reason for this and can a mod remove these alerts?

Thank you

Be sure the major hospitals are prepping, e.g pushing front line staff off on holidays to give them a break, upskilling where possible.

What the Government decides to do is not controlled by mere front line workers, they just pick up the pieces.
Yeh that doesn’t seem to be the case. As in none of what you’re saying is actually happening from what anyone is saying, reporting or otherwise.

To be clear I’m not blaming front line workers at all.

Do you think Andrews thought he was winning votes by instituting public health measures?
Health public measures that should easily have been avoided (like pretty much everywhere else around the country that had a half competent pollie, and that includes the hopeless joke that is Pallachook) had he been competent at been a good political leader.

Danny Boy could afford to get away with it given that Labor had just been re-elected with an election years away at the time the pandemic began; didn't stop Andrews from framing his failures of Hotel Quarantine as the fault of the Melbourne population or laughably shifting the blame of his ineptitude to the Libs.

Andrews main concern during the pandemic was not to be associated with the most number of deaths of any state in the country or at least mitigate the number of casualties that occurred from the first preventable leak in Melbourne. It's always been about him, the lockdowns weren't driven by concern for the health of Victorians but his own political survival.

Aren't in you in Qld? Beats me why non Victorians (including former ones that have moved to other states) are so quick to makes excuses for this useless dork. All he's good for is buying votes by treating taxpayers monies like confetti and showering public servants (including hiring record numbers of them to boot) and unions (via a never ending number of infrastructure projects that invariably go waaay over budget) with hundreds of millions of our dollars to win their favour at the ballot box. Andrews keeps getting voted in for that one reason only, self interest in the hip pocket.

But each state had public health measures.

I find it amazing how it's all been swept under the rug considering we were still having lockdowns last year.

On the train yesterday and the majority were not wearing masks.

Then I flew to Sydney and about a dozen people needed a mask even though I thought it has been made clearly obvious that you need one on a plane.

Is talking about covid becoming the leading cause of death in Australia scare mongering or just talking about the possible reality we are looking at?

I'm not saying I have any faith in Government and media to get the messaging and settings correct but that doesn't mean I wouldn't prefer to see something better than how good is covid being over lets all go out without masks because freedom.

If we're keeping masks on public transport and at airports it should also be at large indoor gatherings like concerts, shopping centers etc
The leading cause of death for what age group(s)?

The fear pr0n was taken too far, and it's no longer the smart political move. Most people are capable of ascertaining their level of risk and altering behaviour accordingly.

I do love the dismissal of older deaths as irrelevant
Most death's recorded are older people, if covid kills more people this year than heart disease that's a big issue

I'm not asking for fear pr0n I'm questioning why the blinkers are on about how many people are being impacted now

Most people are capable of ascertaining their level of risk and altering behaviour accordingly.
I mean you're walking talking proof that this isn't close to true and you've got a lot of friends...

You and me both, it's amazing how much damage politicians were willing to do to the economy over a few cases, apparently we got to October and they basically thought **** it let it rip.

Maybe they wanted to do that all along but they had no justification in a way, getting the jab at least gave them something in case it went pear shaped.

That's your take, not mine. Medical professionals measure quality-adjusted life years while you lack the nuance.

Plenty of people wear masks in public. Many people are using their cars rather than public transport. The public is adequately informed to make their own decisions. It's not like covid needs more media attention, does it?

Why? I'm still alive and haven't contracted covid yet. You're upset because others aren't as fearful as you.

You think road laws are optional for you....

Speed limits are generally conservative. I drive according to conditions with the knowledge I can be penalised for doing so.

Fwiw I thought the outdoor mask rule was dumb, and I frequently disobeyed it for the same reasons.

The issue I take is that education and youth mental health outcomes took a backward seat. The public health orders only accounted for one facet of health.
That's a problem for politicians deciding budgets.

Mental health is a bit of a football. The health department budget in Queensland was soaked up by Covid treatment and measures. Graduate nurses couldn't even get a job. Covid patients sucked up the budget and I don't have a problem with health orders that said "stay the **** inside". I don't know what psychologists were doing - video calls with patients? Taking new patients?

I think Dan wanted the lockdowns to try and get to covid zero and stick it up Sydney hoping Melbourne would be back to normal and Sydney would still be dealing with cases.

There's no such thing as COVID zero. Even China are finding out that you will never contain a virus as contagious as measles. The best solution is the population getting natural immunity and arming people with treatments that we know decrease your chances of ending up in hospital by 90%. Africa has minimal COVID and has one of the lowest vaccination rates. That is no coincidence.

The best solution
