Let's assume we do flatten the curve, shit could still hit the fan here but so far the signs are promising. Anyway if we do flatten it, presumably the restrictions will be lifted in close to the reverse order to which they were implemented. 3-6 months until you can see your mates in public again or go out for a feed. Don't think we'll be seeing people in stadiums in 2020 or foreigners coming in for at least 12-18 months.

Also those estimations are optimistic.

Overseas travel will be the last restriction lifted one would think. I personally think we are talking in the range of the vaccine so yes 12 to 18 months.

How do you figure? Consistent lower numbers now. QLD may get a spike from voting yesterday though.
Because the testing criteria is pretty restrictive. We’ve still got two weeks or so to see the impact some of these returning travellers who didn’t self isolate for two weeks have had. We don’t know how many community transmissions there are and the impact they’ve had either.

You keep bringing up italy but almost all of those deaths had underlying issues..

We are sacrificing perfectly healthy peoples way of life to save the already heavily compromised. We have given up any financial future with all these stimulus packages already. All for a virus thats killing <0.4% here and thats being very liberal in the fear mongerers favour. The actual cases here would dwarf the confirmed making that 0.4% nearer 0.1% or less.

I cant understand how people have been so brainwashed into this. Winter will kill more people than covid here, i just hope everyones paranoia is gone by then so we can return to normal...

Worst of all is the media driving it. A doctor in America is treating people for it within 5 days now. MSM not a peep, they want the hysterics, fear and paranoia to continue.

No one wants to lose a loved one but we have lost all perspective with this, probably because its new. Take a step back, covid wont be in the top 10 killers in australia for 2020.

There's a lot of nonsense in this post (especially that doctor curing people within 5 days) but if you take that low ball of 0.1% (and maybe 1% requiring hospitalisation, and that's being generous) and extrapolate it - you're okay with letting 25,000 Australians die a preventable death and 250,000 end up in hospital for the sake of the economy?

If you answer yes then it tells me all I need to know.

It would be nice if the government could provide some sort of idea at some stage soon of when they hope to have things start going back to normal. I daresay the longer this goes on the worse impact the uncertainty will have on many people. I like many others are hoping it can be over with so I can hopefully recover the job I was meant to start.

It would also leave me and many others with grave concerns due to the economy possibly being ruined for years, friends and family in isolation, family issues increasing etc. We all have friends who struggle at times, we all know people unemployed and so on.

No, I don’t think there will be mass suicides but months and months of this combined with uncertainty from the government could have a shocking long term impact on mental health, businesses being able to survive and reboot, people finding employment etc.

I really doubt the government has any idea when it will all be over. Probably the sooner we get into full lockdown, the sooner it will become clear. I'd like to get back to work myself, and these idiots acting as though a pandemic is nothing to be worried about is ironically only going to delay society returning to anything approaching normalcy.

The same people would have, during the black plague, simply asked if they could just walk AROUND the annoying bodies in the street, cause who else is going to plow them fields for m'lord?

Was in a shop recently, staff member barking like a dog. Anything I bring in from shop is wiped with disinfectant before it gets put in pantry / fridge / freezer.

Anyone see the irony in those that complain about the current shut downs and what further measures will do to the economy but having no questions at all (and celebrating) 100's of billions of dollars being tossed around like they're dollar bills at a seedy strip club?

There's no way a giant shit storm isn't heading our way, look at how measly this government has been with money. They know what's up.

With Procrastinator being suspended, maybe he will now spew less shit into this thread.

Anybody know what he did?
Yeah but that's between him and the mod team

THE BILDERBERG GROUP, IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE CHINESE COMMUNIST PARTY, UNDER THE SUPERVISION OF RUPERT MURDOCH, THE REVERSE VAMPIRE, ARE FORCING OUR POPULATION TO PANIC BUY AT SUPERMARKETS IN A FIENDISH PLOT TO ELIMINATE TOILET PAPER.

It does make you think about what next years, +5, +10 Federal budgets will now look like.

Retirees may lose their franking credits anyway, by the hand of their own government.

Increased GST on everything the Libs have been trying for that for ages

Except it wont be marketed as a great big tax on everything

Yep, going to be interesting to see what they introduce to get the country back in a reasonably 'stable' financial posititon.

People will all complain about higher taxes or changes etc once they forget the government kept them in a job.

People have mentioned suicide. I'm guessing less people will die from suicide if they have to stay home and watch TV than if the virus runs wild and free, striking fear into everybody (not to mention the additional non-suicide deaths from a freer virus).

that's the most common thing I'm hearing, suicide will have a higher total because of the rules and way of life being taken away ect that corona isn't that serious blah blah blah
