Is this our government placing economic importance over the health of its citizens?

Looks like it given the strict travel bans on Iran, South Korea and China. The numbers of confirmed cases in Italy is only 800 or so behind Iran.

You know it. I expect no less
Without trying to sound like a member of the tin foil hat brigade, having a large section of our elderly who currently take up a massive portion of care via health and pensions pass away would solve a lot of economic problems

It might knock a few out but it's going to cost us a lot more in the long run I think and those that recover from a serious dose with associated pneumonia can need months of treatment. There will be collateral damage as well in deaths that won't have anything to do with the virus if our health system buckles under the pressure.

you know what you ‘sound’ like?

a heartless person who says inappropriate things that could hurt other people.

Seriously, do you any idea in your feeble mind how many people in this country are extremely worried right this minute about their vulnerable, elderly loved ones coming down sick with this virus ?

Think about it...ffs

I am worried about a number of my family members and a few friends. These include both my parents and step parents. Particularly in light of people like that dopey fu**en doctor in Toorak.

As example my mother and step father are currently on a cruise around NZ. Mum has a heart condition that’s managed by medication. My step father has a pace maker, a defibrillator, a heart valve and takes a number of medications. Oh, and they’re both over 75.

My fathers health is pretty good for a bloke in his early 80’s. His wife, who’s in her mid 60’s is off to Brazil at the end of the month for 3 weeks and her nieces wedding.

One of my best friends and a former business partner is also in his mid 70’s, has old mans diabetes and is on meds for his heart.

My sister is a nurse and a large part of her work in research and managing drug trials for a large private cardiology practice. Most of their patients are 60, 70, 80 years +

I could go on.

Like you i’m not particularly worried about myself, however with number of people who’ve already made campaigners of themselves in Australia like the doctor I mentioned above, or people who decided to go shopping after they were told to go home and self quarantine I can see the number of people in our communities excalating much faster than necessary.
Here you go DH

right..so...as long as your elderly loved ones are safe, in your mind it’s ok if loads of others just go ahead and die.

it’ll be good for the economy.

nice one Pete
FMD .. thanks for misinterpreting any post I’ve made. If I used emojis on every post would that help?

Forget about it...everyone atm is saying dumb things here and there sometimes..let’s just all focus on our little island at the bottom of the globe and hope the minimum casualties possible occur to our fellow Australians

The one developed country I hold grave fears for is the U.S....So many people there can't even afford health care & this would be a death sentence.

The health insurance Mafia has that country held to ransom.

A snapshot of life in New York right now ....filled with anxiety as they brace for the inevitable.

Imagine if we had a real crisis
This is the test to see how we react, plus it culls off some dead wood along the way to decrese the planets population
Its only the beginning imo

We load shipping containers for global distribution and ill be asking on monday has anyone thought about the boxes coming thru china to us so we can load them.
Containers are like shopping bags for a global population, they also only need to be left clean, this doesnt mean they are fumigated

You just look at the infection to death rate and theirs is one of the highest.
For a country with supposedly the best health system in the world ,but also the most expensive.
Then add the cost of testing and lack of paid sick leave and people are going to turn up to work and keep infecting people

Putting my conspiracy hat on, maybe a panic-management measure as well? Like it or not unfortunately a lot of Australians will not really worry about foreigners being ill, but if Italy is in trouble it's more tangible as a threat to Aus.

Yeah, don't know if it's legit but I read a guy got charged $3000 to get tested. The user pays system is going to cause this to rip through the U.S. lower classes at a rate you would not see outside a third world country.

Italy is now in the top two confirmed afflicted, ahead of South Korea and Iran.

Yeah, but a travel ban makes it 'official' for Joe Blow whose just watching Seven news. Although to be fair I think Italy internally quarantined the whole province of Lombardy so that might have something to do with Aus not putting in a travel ban.

Lots of Italians from now locked down regions reportedly escaped South just before the lockdowns were formally signed off on and announced, after someone leaked the impending lockdowns. Meaning, like Wuhan many infected likely are now in the wild South of the Lockdown areas.

Not just Lombardy region (which includes Milan) were locked down yesterday in Italy.

As well as Lombardy, the measures took effect in more than a dozen other provinces in neighbouring regions, including the cities of Parma, Modena, Padua and Venice.
