Cleary it’s totally Scomos fault that only one state continually has these issues and good Ol Danny is blameless as always. I mean how can you blame someone that doesn’t remember who he put in charge

To be fair MD quarantine, border control, vaccination and aged care are key responsibilities of the federal government and there is good evidence that they have wasted the opportunity that our low covid numbers gave us to get their house in order. There has been a distinct lack of urgency from the Federal government and they have been happy to blame the states for any failures. No one is saying that there weren't numerous failures at State government level last year but they owned those failures and had until now racked up an impressive number of donuts in a row. The returned traveller did not have covid when they returned to Australia, they caught covid in hotel quarantine in Australia, and they caught covid in hotel quarantine because it is not fit for purpose, as every expert in infection control has been saying from the very beginning.
Another thing, while we're at it, the ban against travellers returning from India proposed by the Morrison government were seen as racist by the 'woke crowd' (whatever that is) because similar bans, and threats of huge fines and jail time, were not put in place at the time against returning travellers from the US, UK or Europe, despite the risks being comparable. If it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck...

We can only quarantine so many per week. It has to be kept manageable. There aren’t a lot of flights in - airlines don’t want to be carrying covid so flights are very lightly populated. It’s uneconomic for airlines to fly all this way and have to return empty planes. Crews hate having to isolate. Some stopover airports won’t allow flights from hotspots to land. Each airline has its own maintenance crew in particular airports, with strict protocols. And states refuse to accept returnees for weeks on end when there’s an outbreak. There are many logistical factors, it’s not as simple as people think.

SA/WA/QLD all experienced breaks from quarantine and immediately implemented 3 day snap lock downs to stop it.

We on the other hand couldn’t find any links once we knew their was a leak, let it run wild for 2 weeks and now find ourselves here.

As someone who studies evolutionary biology, I can tell you that it was inevitable that this virus would become more contagious. Think about what has happened over the last year: the virus has been able to spread through the globe at various rates through different lockdowns and quarantine measures. All of these lockdowns employed by most countries have put extraordinary selective pressure on the virus to become more contagious. While it benefits most viruses to be more contagious there comes a point at which there are usually diminishing returns, so a virus won't always become more contagious. We have created an environment which pressures the virus to have a highly accelerated rate of evolution towards being more contagious because that's the only way for it to survive the measures we have put in place. Whenever you put pressure on an organism or a virus or a bactera to survive without actually killing it you are making it "stronger." It's a similar concept with antibiotic-resistant bacteria. We should also expect more contagious strains of the regular flu to appear as a result of the Covid lockdowns and quarantine too.

I truly believe that Hill Song Dill is doing nothing on purpose. He's loving the Vic problems because it makes the State Govt look bad. He does nothing and shuts up so the media have nothing to publish and his name or govt isn't linked with the outbreaks etc. He's just lucky the Liberal State govts haven't had a the long lockdowns like we have. I mean, even Lindsay Fox has offerred to build a bloody quarrantine thingo.

He would like to get around to lay hands on all Australians to fix this thing, but he just hasn't got the time or inclination - besides - it is god's will.

No the fines were placed because it was obvious people from that area we’re flying to other destinations and then Australia.

You can go on about how bad Scomo is and that’s fair but to try and rationalise how poor the Vic gov have been is ridiculous. They may have had numerous zeros(no different to near every other state) but we are now in 4th lockdown and still have 900 deaths in the past. That cannot and should not be forgotten

And to finish the Vic gov have opened up vaccines to over 40s today. Why not earlier? How can they do that if it’s a Federal run show? The deflection of blame is a massive issue. They are both useless and as I’ve said several times the Federal Gov and Vic State Gov are bordering on important having raced past useless weeks ago

F. knows why a wedding is included. For months there are plenty of people who skipped weddings and funerals due to the lockdown.

The fines and jail time are mandated as part of the Biosecurity Act, it's discretionary as to whether they are applied or not. You haven't addressed why you're not similarly outraged about other returned travellers from hotspots, nor about the fact (or should that be FACT) that the Wollert case caught covid in hotel quarantine.
I agree, the deaths from covid should not be forgotten and I question whether they should be forgiven. Of the 910 people that have died from covid in Australia, the majority in Victoria, 75% were aged care residents. The Federal government are responsible for the regulation of aged care and absolutely and totally failed these people most vulnerable to covid. The blame falls at their feet, no-one has accepted that blame and, no, that won't be forgotten by me.

Edit: the number now gives a message saying it’s been switched off.

Some people have called 50+ times to get through. We are regional, so our GP doesn’t have Pfizer but the local vaccine hub does.

I’ve constantly said NO ONE should be allowed back in from anywhere, and said that for months. I don’t want anyone flying in from bloody Malaysia either right now. Is that racist?
