And it’s not a two week “bug”. You could have it for 3 to 4 weeks.

The whole two week quarantine is just to make sure you don’t have it, or if you do, it shows up in that two weeks.

But you can’t go to work when you have it.

The deputy CMO said today, if you’re sick with anything, Stay Home. Don’t go to work.
Yer, I realise that briz, however a lot, particularly in the young working age demographic will have zero symptoms so wont know they should stay home.

Like I posted Tuesday my 9 year old granddaughter was sent home from school on Tuesday with a very minor sniffle (hell a lot of kids have sniffles, that's why they are sometimes called snotty nosed kids), she went to school yesterday and today no problems.

'could' is the key word.

Most people in the 80% majority of people under 60 have little in the way of symptoms for more than a week or two max.

Our girls School has a very strict policy that when any student either comes to school with symptoms or begin to get symptoms through any given day.
I wish most workplaces around the country adopted similar policies.

The amount of times I've gotten the flu because some hero in the office thinks it is ok to be the martyr and not work from home (when they can) and demonstrate how resilient they are that they've come into the office despite obviously being sick.

Fortunately, where I am now and in my own private business, such measures have fortunately been implemented where the moment someone demonstrates a symptom of a cold or flu, they are sent home.

Mentalities around being sick in schools / workplace needs to immediately change and perhaps Covid-19 will be the precursor to change occurring.

That’s good. I hadn’t read or heard that.

I did hear that most people are only contagious for about 4 or 5 days after symptoms show (and 24/48 hours before).

Good to get a different view and I agree with many of your points but I think with good leadership and policies all good be navigated through. In particular, I’m not adverse to closing our borders for many months. Any Australians who want to return go into quarantine for 14 days. We are losing our natural advantage of being an island nation. Short sighted to worry about international tourism for few months compared with losing international AND domestic tourism as well as normal household expenditure for many more months. We travel every school holidays - nothing booked for April and won’t be booking anything.

I think with strong leadership and our ability to see the future through the likes of Italy I think people would pull together for the greater good (but I am probably naive).
If Morrison is 8 days behind me god help us! In fact it’s several weeks because that’s when I started harping on about closing borders! We need a leader who will make tough early decisions and lead us through this crisis not somebody who waits to its blindingly obvious before acting. His Stimulas package was under cooked and is now having to up that. People are losing confidence in him with private schools ignoring him and shutting anyway and some state schools attendance down 30 percent. You wait he will backflip on keeping schools open soon too once he realises the rate of increase it causes.
Sorry about the rant but I am really frustrated because those of us who have done research on this topic from early on it has been very clear on what to do and what not to do. Once you understand that there is no magic fix in the short term and the longer you leave things it exponentially worsens then the arguments of not making a tough early decision because of the impact on society and economy becomes farcical. Like an infected toe with gangrene - deal with it early and at worse you lose a toe. Leave it and you could lose your leg (or worse).

As a primary school teacher myself, I personally have no problem going in to work if it's what the government think is the best thing to do atm.
I don't know , but it might come down to your age , if i was over 60 , I'd be hopeful of a shutdown sooner than later.
Good for you though .

On a positive the canals in Venice are looking clearer and cleaner without all the boat activity.
There are Dolphins and fish and birds coming back.
Bad luck for the proprietors , Nature scores again.

I agree with the sentiment but these days it is increasingly hard to get contracted full time work so by not going in you are costing yourself a fair amount of money. Particularly in hospitality and admin but also more in healthcare now as well. Companies want flexible, casual staff so they can send them home when there's no work but this creates a need to go in some days when you know you shouldn't.

So in Australia the number of infected doubles every three days no? Is that the same rate of infection that was experienced in Italy & now in the USA? I guess it's kinda hard to know exactly as the ability to test people is a big factor.

With a relatively low population spread around the seaboard of a large continent I would have thought with some decent restrictive measures the rate of infection would be slower than in Europe.

In terms of mortality, does anyone know the percentage of the Australian population over 70 compared to countries like Italy & the UK for example.

Yes I know I could google these things for myself, but I prefer to get my facts second hand from big footy.

So my daughter had a friend come over after school today. Her dad just picked her up and told me he’s furious cause his work had made him take two weeks of leave and self isolate because he spent time at his girlfriends place where her Coronavirus positive son is isolated after returning from Japan. He’s also been out at shops.

I’ve had days of my icu nurse daughters saying I need to avoid this virus cause of my significant underlying disease issues, which he knows about.

When I pointed out my risks he immediately went oh I didn’t think about that, maybe my daughter shouldn’t be here. No shit Sherlock.

Never underestimate the stupidity of some people.

I’ve glen 20’d the house and I don’t think I’ll get it even if they did have it but I have no idea what to do now - do I let my 12yo kid go to school? Do I stay away from her? Do I ask him to keep his kid away from school? Our girls always sit together and hang out, and they have been sharing bugs/viruses for years.

Ring the school, let them deal with it. The kid shouldn't be there..

Take some panadols and take your temperature regularly. Please take care

And on a positive note. Managed to get some beef scotch fillet from the shops after work. Will do me for dinner tonight & tomorrow. I guess people can only keep panic buying for so long before they run out of money.
One would hope because as far as I can tell, it is the unsophisticated plebs doing most of the panic buying and hoarding.

This article was just sent to me by a friend that is one of Australia’s leading biochemists that is well worth the read:

Mate you have to prioritize your wellbeing here.
As I said earlier the other half works as a teachers aid .
She told me that they had 6 kids out of 20 in their class have the day off and around 200 kids on the the campus have the day off.
So obviously parents are keeping their kids away as a precaution not just being sick.
McMums advise to inform the school is great advise.
It's your call, no harm in being cautious .
Stay safe.

Yeah I’ll keep her home tomorrow and keep in touch with dickhead and see if he develops symptoms.

We really need to understand that feeling well and thinking it’s ok isn’t enough.

One or two leaders might be over reacting but it’s all leaders Of all political persuasions throughout the world.
