Shorter breaks between games have been touted. It looks like an attempt to rush as many games in as possible before any potential lockdown.

It's pretty obvious the AFL are just trying to rush out as many games as possible to save as much TV revenue as possible.
Yep, Understand them doing it completely as financial cost could be devastating if season was to have any less games than likely already.

There's a mountain of data around the world as a model of exactly how this about to play out, given we aren't currently under complete lock out, are still allowing social interactions, schools are still open etc.

Most people are taking the "Australia is awesome" line and running the line of very few critical cases as some sort of badge of honor, you can see it in here.

All western Countries have seen a massive increase in the hospitalisation and mortality rate once hitting a certain point.

Like Spain and Italy are currently experiencing.

NSW will have 20,000+ cases in a fortnight, regardless of what measures the govt bring in now (they are too late).

Most ventilators in hospitals will be exhausted within a month and watch the mortality and critical lists skyrocket, like they are doing in every western developed country in Europe.

Unless you think Australia's health system outstrips every other developed nation in the world and somehow stems the tide of an incurable respiratory disease, despite that disease spreading at rates consistent with the rest of the world.

Eddie just had a good idea - send two victorian clubs over toe WA, he used Pies and Saints as an example: game 1& 2 Pies play WCE and Saints play Freo, games 3 &4 WCE play saints and Freo play pies and WCE & Freo play game 5 - 5 games all in perth, do a smiliar thing in Adelaide, Sydney & brisbane. Good share of the load and not as much travel and cost as back and forth etc.

Makes sense where they can schedule it.

I love the people saying the AFL sneakily wants 17 rounds and a shorter games. If anything they wish AFL was 24/7,365

People whinge for the sake of whinging. There is more to life than footy, especially this year. Be happy you are healthy, look after the elderly (including your own).

If you are able to get down to your local Woolies or whatever and help the elderly with their shopping, you can get a lot out of these small things. If we keep the elderly safe and healthy this goes a long way in containing this virus.

As long as person helping them close by is not a carrier with no symptoms. That is the issue, for most of us, if we got it, we probably would barely notice it but for them if they got it, much more potential harm, hence the three deaths at one aged care locality so far. Those elderly probably got it from a friend or family, recently been overseas ? Not been following the specific death cases closely to know.

I suspect whilst we still got warm weather it spreads less, but do not really know, as not my area of much knowledge.

Can only talk from my experience, but I wore gloves today when I went there- being in my field of work I wear gloves all day anyway so wearing it to the shops I barely notice the difference lol

Unless you think Australia's health system outstrips every other developed nation in the world and somehow stems the tide of an incurable respiratory disease, despite that disease spreading at rates consistent with the rest of the world.

If the majority of cases in Australia (99%) are mild with little to no symptoms - then ICU's and what you are saying are not needed in order for these active cases to recover in an imposed isolation (an isolation which further extends to any person currently arriving in Australia as of 2 days ago).

A better recovery isn't the only perk of mild symptoms, it is also very beneficial because it further lessens the chance of transmission - as a virus' most effective way of transmitting from person to person are coughing and sneezing, either onto other people or onto the surfaces they are close to (isolation only adds to this lessening of transmission).

It's not about the healthcare system - healthcare systems or "ventilators" as you care to bring up are non-related when you have mild symptomatic cases that never need to really visit a GP, let alone a hospital anyway.

It is clear you have eaten this fear-mongering up and haven't looked back. And I feel for you. And you keep bringing up the anomaly that is Italy ad nauseam. Italy is over 2,100 deaths, we as a worldwide collective in total are not even close to that (1,600), we as a world are playing catch-up with a single nation and Occam's razor shows us that we are not to use that as a sample size for the rest of us.

The world itself at the moment in a surreal sense is a bit like watching the footy. This juggernaut away team the Coronas are currently barnstorming around the globe testing out every other side's weakness. Some are standing up better than others, some are caught off-guard and have withdrawn into their shells more quickly, some have good teamwork coordination, there are gameplans like 'bruise-free footy' and 'herd immunity' and 'hoarding the ball' whilst others have slightly more time to strategise and try to find the answer, whilst all the coaches/managers are being watched like hawks for their choices right now.

Remember during the Australian Open how it was repeatedly emphasised that "Australia is open for business, please come visit and invest, we aren't all burnt to a crisp" and then a couple weeks later "sorry, belay the last, no foreigners unless you like weeks in quarantine"

It's 'bearable', but it's absolutely nuts. I wouldn't go there unless I'm in dire straits. If you have enough for 2-3 weeks, don't go there. It should get better in a few weeks. I'm lucky that just before all this rubbish hit I did our big shop when I got baby things, toilet paper and what not

In Australia there are currently 369 active cases.

368 have mild to no symptoms.
Yes Australia is not Europe. Australia is far away/ an island. The spike that people are fearing are based on models from elsewhere. I mean Dr. Peter Larkins on fox footy said there could be 10-30% of Australians infected. World statistics are @ 0.002 %.
Football should continue until a player contracts the virus. Otherwise closing the season for two months and things like this is too alarming and panicky !
1 is in a serious/critical condition.
Yeah Australia is not Europe. Australia is far away and will not replicate what’s happening elsewhere.

It's not great, just went to get dinner for tonight and tomorrow and it is pretty bleak.

Basically get what you can meat wise, plenty of fresh veg left though only things they were short on was potatoes

Key thing is go at the right times, either first thing (8am) or at 1-2pm. Last Friday I was in just to pick up some dinner but was able to get some hand sanitiser and toilet paper for the person next door who had nothing. They look after our pets when we are away.

How about some good news for once? Negative every where even though some good things are happening

- China has closed down its last Coronavirus hospital. Not enough new cases to support them.

- Indian Doctors successful in treating Corona. Combination of drugs used: Lopinavir, Retonovir, Oseltamivir along with Chlorphenamine.
They are going suggest same medicine globally.

- Researchers of the Erasmus Medical Center claim to have found an antibody against coronavirus.

- A 103-year-old Chinese grandmother has made a full recovery from COVID-19 after being treated for 6 days in Wuhan, China.

- Apple reopens all 42 China stores,

- Cleveland Clinic develops COVID-19 test that gives results in hours, not days.

- Good news from South Korea, where the number of new cases is declining.

- Italy is hit hard, experts say, only because they have the oldest population in Europe.

- Wuhan celebrates the closure of the last temporary hospital in Wuhan.

- Scientists in Israel likely to announce the development of a coronavirus vaccine.

- 3 Maryland coronavirus patients fully recovered; able to return to everyday life.

- Two more Filipinos have recovered from COVID-19 and is now discharged from the hospital. Only two Filipino COVID-19 positive patients remain in hospital isolation.

- A network of Canadian scientists are making excellent progress in Covid-19 research.

- A San Diego biotech company is developing a Covid-19 vaccine in collaboration with Duke University and National University of Singapore.

- Tulsa County's first positive COVID-19 case has recovered. This individual has had two negative tests, which is the indicator of recovery.

Predicted to get shut down by some negative comments but cant blame a guy for trying hey?

Dr. Peter Larkins said On 360’ that 10-30% of Australians would contract the virus. This hasn’t happened anywhere in the world. 10% of China is 140 million. 1% is 14 million. Real statistics is about 0.002%.
Let’s not panic.

He doesn't mean all at once, or within a short period of time. It's likely 10-30% will contract the virus AT SOME STAGE.

This is why social distancing is important, so that even if 30% do catch it, it happens over time and not in short period of time overloading the health system completely.

In this it is said that their reason for being discharged from quarantine was based on RT-PCR tests and CT findings - the former being a quick test for Influenza (likely as a result of solid coronavirus testing being in it's infancy) and the latter being a very unreliable indicator for the virus (which isn't used now).

Thus, there are holes in these cases, and as such, cannot be taken as factual for re-infection when compared to today's process of diagnosis on patients that are exposed to the public for long periods of time upon discharge.

They were positive for novel COVID on the RT-PCR initially. And then were negative, and then again positive.
They aren't 'influenza quick tests' at all.

And actually CT findings are quite specific (i.e. found in COVID but not other similar illness):

And I'm not saying this PROVES re-infection risk, but that this is a big concern and as such we don't have strong evidence that this is/won't be the case.
