Only problem is that it's not below 1 and its heading upwards. Get ready for the start of the 2nd wave especially when everyone starts heading out thinking we've eliminated it just as winter is about to start.
That's interesting, our health minister said we won't be going back into full lockdown. I doubt everyone thinks we've elimimated it. People are stupid, they won't think we'll ever eliminate it even if the Reff suggests the complete opposite. Not enough people will bother to actually do their research to realise that we can eliminate it.

Yep - let's put our faith in our fellow citizens doing the right thing.

Bizarre that you think this view is the majority view of the entire country given our COVID numbers and adherence to lockdown measures.

Hygiene will become the fast growing industry in the short to mid term. Antibacterial and antimicrobial products to be hard coded into building and design standards. Natural anti microbial metals and alloys like bronze or cupronickel might enjoy a significant uptick in demand.

Is that true, I might start making handrails for shopping centres out of bronze.

A bit of a leap to suggest that I think this is the majority view.

Its a minority - unfortunately I understand that the issue is that it only takes a minority to change their behaviour and we are back where we started.

You didn't read what I said. Surely defeating it is returning to normal life and your great mate yesterday, scomo. said we most likely wont get nil cases so it remains undefeated even in Australia.

We will defeat it, we are nearly there. Never met ScoMo either but he seems like a good bloke and family man that like a beer and footy.

What about Sweden, Belgium, Russia, Brazil, Iran, etc?

Bolsanaro is Brazil's Trump, Russia has a moronic despot, Iran a crazy religious leadership, Belgium and Sweden just gambled with their citizen's lives, you can have multiple dickheads in positions of leadership.

For a guy who thought the world was ending you are now going far to far the other way. We wont defeat it unless there is a vaccine but we will have to live with it. There isn't any other choice. Scomo likes some weird church so im not really a fan. He dos know what he is talking about though when he says we wont get nil cases.

Putin may be a despot, but he's far from a moron. Far from it.

In regard to Sweden, Taiwan, Japan, any decision responding to the pandemic was a gamble. Those countries took considered risk also weighing up the risks of lockdown. We gambled with the economy without having a clue what the odds were. All the leaders in our country, regardless of their political stripes and including the public servants, have responded like rank amateurs. They have gambled blind, in a completely reactive manner.

Then they have misled us. First they were flattening the curve and protecting ICU resources, that was the reason for locking down. Then they change that to getting rid of the virus and maintaining lockdown measures. When did those goalposts shift?

They all need to go, deal with the politicians at the ballot box and expect their replacements to clean out the public servants.

Second wave? The first spread wasn't actually a wave, more a ripple. And yes, given that winter is coming we can expect a second ripple. Time to reopen the economy completely, its been damaged far too much already.

I’d say Sweden are the rank amateurs. Basically just killed old people but will still probably end up recession because the rest of the world will be. We did the right thing unless you are happy with thousands of those silly old people dying. And pretty sure our lockdown measures have changed considerably over the last month

You don’t get it all. It wasn’t a wave because of the lockdown or do you think it was a coincidence that 2 weeks after lockdown the numbers dropped. And the economy is gradually reopening. Exactly as it should.

"We did the right thing unless you are happy with thousands of those silly old people dying". Sorry, emotional bullshit. Why would thousands of silly old people have died.

Taiwan did far better than us, with far less destruction of their economy. Just wait until the stimulus is pulled back, then you'll have silly people of all age groups dying, in greater numbers over a prolonged period of time.

Stop repeating headlines.

And it would have been a slightly bigger ripple without lockdown. Instead we've subjected our economy to a tsunami and there will be a further few more of those.

Gee, I didn't know Sweden & Belgium were dictatorships. Thanks for the info.
I was contemplating whether to clarify that Belgium and Sweden are not included when i specifically said almost all of them. See I figured that no one would be so stupid as to try and claim I was saying they were also dictatoships despite the very clear caveat of ALMOST all of them. Thanks for proving me wrong though, I will keep that in mind in future.

Thank you though, for conceding the points that Russia, Brazil and Iran among others are dictatorships that support Trump or that Trump supports. Given your propensity to be needlessly fastidious to the point of coming across as incapable of understanding context or intent, that you still didn't disagree is essentially an endorsement of your approval.

Thousands would have died because thousands did in Sweden. Taiwan locked the borders before us. The economy would have been stuffed whatever we did. You know that. You just can’t admit it. Again I will ask you why have most countries locked down. You are smarter than 150 countries leaders. You aren’t obviously but you seem to think you are. They all wrong and the cager knows more than them.

Made up rubbish. By the way how many yanks have died now? Do we still have the wrong figures? Strange that they didn’t say the figures were wrong when they got to one hundred thousand deaths. Surely they would say that figure was wrong.

I think it's a hard one for governments. Those that weren't effected think the lock down was overkill, people who lost loved ones think that they are criminally negligent if they didn't. I'm not sure we were mislead so much as they had to take a position.

Getting rid of politicians will just mean more rats filling the void. We need some restructuring.

Don't know much about Brazil. Iran is lead by dictators, but friends of Trump really? Didn't Trump order a hit on their No.2 a few months ago?

What has Trump done that in any way shows support for Iran? Unless you call severe economic sanctions and the assassination of Iran's No.2 support.

Putin has a dominance over Russia, but I wouldn't define him as a Dictator, an autocrat yes, he still has democratic processes to navigate. Chairman Xi is a true Dictator, he has been granted unbridled power for life and has no democratic processes to worry about.

Needlessly fastidious? You made a statement that was largely false. Name one Dictatorship/Autocracy, that Trump supports?

Over inflated figures, I've explained that in the 'Politics' thread and I'm not doing it again. I saw you comment a few days ago an assumption that there have been autopsies. No there haven't, when would they have time to do autopsies on 100,000 people? A couple of weeks ago only about half of the recorded covid deaths in the US had even been lab tested. And most of them had comorbidities.

Bolsanaro in Brazil is like a Trump clone, populist idiot who defies reason as to why he got voted in to any position of power.
