These cruise ships are a death trap. Another death taking the total to 13. How many have been from cruise ships? It would have to be 8-10?
10% of NSW cases are from cruise ships. They are always a Petrie dish, fill them with obese old kents with pre existing conditions.
We went on a 4 day cruise to Kangaroo Is. Buffet full of beautiful fruits and fresh salads.
Kents lined out the door for deep fried fish and chips.
It was sickening TBH.

Average doesn't really matter in this situation though. Not all players are on 370,000. Base contracts are very low, and a lot of players are in that bracket. Rookies, players that have been given lifelines at other clubs. There's a lot.
It's only 1st and 2nd year players on less than 100k, and even then, they are still earning about 80k at worst.

Wouldn't be complaining about those figures when compared to their peers not in the AFL system.

As harsh as this will sound. Would a player on 35-40 k this year rather get 20% of their wage for the next few months or not have a job next year but get 50%? I know which one I'd be picking. Obviously it would be more ideal to have stages but it's not likely.

I went on one of those with 13 of us. Got to be honest and say I loved it. 4 days of eating and drinking as much as we could.

That’s clearly not true if they give up 50% for the rest of the season. And it will be more than that. We need to stop comparing. Do we compare a fantastic worker compared to a guy who struggled to add 2 and 2. These guys are elite footballers and are part of an industry that generates many millions. Actually close to 800 million a year.

Those are the standard base wages per the AFLPA collective bargaining agreement. The 50% mentioned from the AFLPA earlier in the week wasn't for the entire season, it was 50% for the 2 months of no games when they are mainly sitting at home.

If 80% of club employees access the league have been stood down immediately because clubs need to remove millions from their football department spending immediately and there is no money coming into the AFL, then it is relevant to compare what AFL players are getting paid and how much of a pay cut they should take in comparison to everyone else in the football industry.

And right now, their industry isn't generating millions. It's generating nothing.

Yep and anyone who works in hospitality or is classified as casual are out of a job, this is real and happening.....time for some perspective.

If they are elite footballers yep they are important but so is the aged care worker, the worker in the pub you have frequented, where you went buy any retail, this is not isolated.

Everyone needs to be real and adjust - the AFL is big the players are part of that industry and will ride it out others will lose houses.

I am aware from where I work that shelters for the homeless not taking referrals, supported visits for child safe now not occurring, those in hospital in psych wards being discharged due to freeing up beds so they are ready for the virus.

This is real, they may generate income but those who are not able to do so ie the homeless, those in womens shelters, being turfed out of hospitals do not have the opportunity that the AFL players have....

I know the 50% is 2 months. That’s whyisaid it will be more because it will be. Don’t know about you but many would have spent what they previously earnt so I’m unsure we can tough that. Yes 80% have lost their jobs but unfortunately they don’t generate 800 million. If it ends up 60% for 6 months that’s a hell of a lot for people who still have to train.

They are going to lose 60% at least of their income but still have to train. As sad as it is I’m not sure we can compare it to the homeless because the homeless are still homeless when afl players are playing and we don’t compare it then. The game will survive. I’ve never been in a Union. Refused many times but I know how it works. You start at the high point and then negotiate. Why are people upset before the final decision. It’s confusing.

Perspective:

'I’m not sure we can compare it to the homeless because the homeless are still homeless '

FFS :

there will be more homeless - get it nope doubt you will

Homeless shelters are not taking people in, this is an issue

AFL players will not be homeless, yet!

Plugger if you can open up your perspective.....I am lucky I am off to eat my evening meal - enjoy your eveing

We need to be tough because there is no money to give them. Very ignorant for them to see everything else thats happening in the industry and the world but think they should be exempt from it because the planned their spending around our pre-pandemic world.

They are part of what generated 800 million. The players may be out on the field, but so many others in the industry are part of what allows the AFL to generate that much. If it was just the players and nothing else, then we wouldn't have the sport we have today.

Yes the players have to train - spending an hour or two a lifting some weights and running. The poor players

Again that doesn’t get solved whether the players take 40% or zero. All i know is they have to continue to train in other words work so like anyone else still working surely they get paid. Doubt many people working are saying I will do it for nothing.

Very emotive words. Surely you are better than that to prove a point. Not one person is saying the poor players. Why do people have decide they are in the wrong even before a final decision.

Did you hear Dangerfield's interview on SEN? He was very 'poor players' with his answers.

It's been very very disappointing to hear some senior players speak in this issue on the past few days, such as J Riewoldt using the Bushfire fundraiser as some sort of defence as to why the players shouldn't need to fall inline with everyone else in the football industry which was in very poor taste.

Well you can burn them. I’m happy to wait until it’s finalised. I’m a players person because it’s fine for the stars but I can assure you the average players end up no better than any other regular worker and that’s with 100% pay. Some end up nearly worse off. Don’t feel sorry for them because it’s their choice but I refuse to burn them as well.

Who is burning the players?

Asking for perspective is not burning the players.

No matter the final outcome, it doesnt change the ignorant comments made by senior AFL players throughout the week.

Yup - each to their own

would hope for more than that though would hope for look out for others
Yep I’m sure they will. Well others in the footy industry. Not sure they have to worry about a guy who may lose his lawn mowing round. I certainly wouldn’t in their position that’s the government’s job. Even those who lose their job in the footy industry is the government’s job

So....you believe the industry ie the AFL should make sure the players are paid very well?

Interested in what you believe the government's job should be!?
