Could Buddy spoil the party for Collingwood?

Im just saying that Travis could cause just as much trouble to the Hawks as Buddy does to the Pies.
Im not saying he is better than Buddy, because he isnt, Im just saying he will cause as many head aches to Clarkson as Buddy does to Malthouse..

Different class of player. Travis has had maybe one or two BOGS this year, and hasn't ripped apart a game in 3 months. He doesn't kick big bags and hasn't played well in any final I have seen. He is a non-issue in most ways.

The only reason he will cause us pain is because we are undersized down back. But then again anyone over 193cm causes our backline a few issues.

It's interesting that Collingwood said Hawthorn is the team they least wanted to play in the finals....obviously scared of them (especially Buddy!).

Buddy will lead the Hawks to an upset for the ages! Go Hawks! :D

I think you will find that is more than likely Collingwood supporters thoughts - Pre Buddy's injury though. Buddy at 70% holds no fear.

Not sure why the Eagles supporters are happy, Geelong will tear them a new one on Saturday :D

Going back a bit he was very good in the '07 finals, and has been ok without being great in other finals since.

Not sure what your definition of ripping up is, but he was a dominant forward in round 22 and 23.

I think he can trouble your backline due to his size advantage, but really this game will come down to who wins in the midfield more than who is the best key forward.

You'd hope so too, given he only averages 2.05 goals a game from 2007 onwards, and was your #1 forward in all those finals games (where he still only managed to just beat his average with 2.3 goals per finals game, a stat padded by the 2007 GF romp). Mooney not in the same ballpark come finals.

Probably the only key forward to average more goals per game in finals than in the H&A year over the last 5 years... Was born to play big games.

In the ballpark of key forwards to average more goals per game in finals than in H&A over the last five years...yes, he is.

What is wrong with a key forward kicking around 45-50 goals over the past five years? Sorry, he's not as good as Buddy. Did you need me to clarify that for you (the fact that he's not getting a game for us right now wasn't enough)? And I seem to remember a few romps during the H&A season over the past five years as well, where I swear Mooney was on the ground, kicking goals. In fact, I also recall Buddy's goal kicking stats being padded in the past two outings with cheap 50m penalties and handballs over the top to him. The fact is, Mooney's kicked more goals per game in finals than he has in H&A matches over the last five years. He's also the only player I bothered to check.

The two 50 metre penatlies were both there and he hasn't had any handballs over the top against Sydney or Geelong. Stop posting lies.

Anyhow the fact you would even mention Mooney in the same sentence as Franklin is grossly offensive.

Debatable and irrelevant anyway. The point is any old spud could have kicked the goals he ended up putting through from the goal square.

4:22...and again, not a heap of goals that you needed the awesomeness of Buddy to kick in that package.

"Probably the only key forward to average more goals per game in finals than in the H&A year over the last 5 years"

That was all you, champ. Not me. Mooney has raised his production in the finals he has played between 2007-2010, compared to his production in H&A games between 2007-2011. The fact that your 'Hey this could backfire if someone I don't rate has done the same thing and I'll look like a twit' alarm didn't go off before you clicked on 'submit' is not really my concern.

Lol. He gets one handball over the top in 8 finals goals and you're raving on about stat padding? Ffs, lol.

It was a response to the suggestion that I was lying. Again, you're wrong. One out of eight is 12.5% more than: he hasn't had any handballs over the top against Sydney or Geelong. How many did you need, considering the ease of almost all the other goals he has kicked?

Can you get carded for telling lies not stop? He had 4 contested marks against Sydney, earnt his goals and marks. Kicked a couple of crackers ( particuarly his first and the one on the hard angle was pretty good as well ). Laid 6 tackles on the weekend as well. All with interuppted preperation.

Averages 4 goals per game in finals over 5 years. Kicked bags of 7 and 8. You trying to denigrate him is hilarious. Go away. Stop posting lies just because he got one ****ing hanball over the top.

correct. he's arguably the best player in the comp.

i'm tipping the Pies coaching staff will be having a few sleepless nights about Bud this week.

if he rips the game apart, good night Collingwood. he's that good.

and don't worry, his knee is fine. our medico's are that conservative that he wouldn't have even played last week if there was any risk.

he will be up and about this Fri night. just laps up the big stage.

Your first paragraph has nothing to do with anything I have said. I didn't say he played badly, I didn't say his workrate was poor, I just said that the goals he kicked were not that special, considering he is one of the best handful of players in the game. 'The goal on the hard angle'? Give me a break. If Pods or Hawkins missed that, there'd be calls for them to be dropped. He's expected to kick those goals.

I'm not denigrating him. I'm saying he's doing what is expected of him as Buddy Franklin. No more, no less. Can you get carded for telling people non-stop that they're posting lies, when they're clearly not?

Maybe I did overreact a bit I dunno. Just seemed like you were calling him a stat padder, who gets easy goals etc etc. I just haven't had nicotine for 5 days so I'm quick to snap. Sorry. All good.

No problem with a bit of passion, it's what it's all about.

I'll be there on Friday and since I will be hopelessly conflicted as to who I want to win, I'll be at least hoping for Buddy to have a night out to enhance the spectacle.

Clearly if Collingwood allow Buddy to play the way he did against Sydney last week he will have an influence but based on the footage I saw of him training yesterday I'd have to say Buddy is more likely to spoil the party for the Hawks than for Collingwood. He was clearly favouring his bad knee and will undoubtedly play on pain killing injections again if he plays. I for one am praying he does. There's no doubting that even injured Buddy is pretty formidable but if played to his weakness he could easily be Hawthorn's downfall.

You've also got to love the Hawks supporters suggesting that Collingwood's backline are underdone especially when the player who was out for longer than anyone else tore the Eagles a new one last start in his first week back and Maxwell and Harry are playing their best footy of the year while Leon and Reid have just had very short breaks. My feeling is our backline will be a lot fresher and more hungry for the ball than their Hawthorn counterparts who got bashed around fairly nicely by the Swans last week. Looking like a good contest but I see way more upside to our full strength side with a refreshed backline than I do a side relying on players playing on pain killers who have had no rest at all. There you go, I've given you an excuse and all... dammit!

He wasn't jabbed last week. He won't be this week.

The HFC have categorically ruled out giving Buddy pain killing injections.

Seriously, some people just make shit up.

Yeah 100%. A Geelong-Hawthorn GF would have a certain amount of romanticism about it though :D

Wouldn't it be a massive build-up!

lol. OK, fair point. What I was more trying to say was that he was definitely favouring that knee last week and it was pretty obvious. Whether or not he played on pain killers we will never know because there's no way Clarko's going to be shouting that from the rooftops. The fact is that most clubs would give a player who is obviously struggling with such an injury something for the pain so it stands to reason that they probably did and may well do so again this week. You're surely not suggesting that he has no injury? Did you see that footage yesterday? No doubt in my mind!

Hey Donk bet you'd be back on the nicotine in the lead up to a cats/ hawks GF! I'm 3 years off em but i reckon i'd get out the cigars if we won ;) btw wonder how much sleep Tarrant is getting this week?!

If it was a Hawks - Geelong GF, I would be chain smoking the whole week leading up to it ;)

You're wrong, that was directly from the playing group and I read it on the Collingwood website.

Secondly, we're happy because our team has done more this year than any other team has done in a decade and we've earned back respect from the AFL. And respect goes a long way.

Doesn't matter if we get owned on Saturday (a game I don't necessarily believe is a foregone conclusion) because we've got one of the youngest lists in the league playing in a prelim against seasoned, hardened, elite group of players. They're not expected to win.

Can't we all just agree that Buddy COULD spoil the party for Collingwood?

He may or may not, but he could.

Is there anything else that needs saying relating to OP?

If I were to go back and change it to 'WILL' would it make you happy? It's a thread created for discussions about Buddy's possible, or probably, influence on the game - which could be match-deciding. Quite reasonable IMO.
