It made for some difficult reading but I think it needs to stay. The thoughts put forward against the anachronistic views are valuable and well expressed.

The dialogue itself was (mostly) very respectful.
I was not respectful, and am willing to cop any repercussions for that. I simply could not treat such bile with respect. Got me very angry

And I also am not going to be respectful in the face of someone saying rape is no worse than physical assault. Complete ****ing moron

This post intrigued me, so I went looking for a thread where the ‘certain poster’ might post, and the responses from a certain ‘JB’ who had ‘some fun’.

I found it! Makes for very interesting breakfast reading. Put me into a kind of trance…

My pleasure. Think of it as an 'off Broadway' comedy festival.

There are degrees of everything, but obviously rape starts near the extreme end of the spectrum.

I’m worried that Roe vs Wade being overturned will take the United States one step further towards being a “flawed democracy”. Their healthcare system was horribly unequal to begin with. People will be putting things worse than bright lights or disinfectant into their bodies, and we are living in the 21st century…

I have a new found respect for the unprovoked interstate feminists though :)

They supposedly didn’t agree with his world view, it doesn’t make him unsafe around children. We need to stop demonizing people we disagree with. That’s a man’s career he could have lost. FFS.

I skimmed through trying to find a reference to tractor pr0n, but alas missed it or it's been removed. Pretty disappointing really.

A quote or the gist would brighten the day.

His views and posts are a breach of the Victorian Teaching Professions's Code of Conduct which is a requirement of the Education and Training Reform Act.

If he fails to achieve the standards set by the APST it is himself that is risking his own career, not to mention the welfare and education of his learners which must take precedence.

That is not "demonising", that is the law.

Am I meant to take your claim at face value, or do you have specific posts of domus’, and specific terms of the code of conduct to reference? Someone’s views can’t be a breach of anything, unless we are now legislating against particular thoughts in an Orwellian dystopia. Furthermore are you planning on doxxing him or is there somewhere else he is posting under his real name? Otherwise I would imagine he is afforded the same anonymity when posting as the rest of us.

You are deflecting

He said that rape is as bad as assault. Its not. And saying so is disgusting. You keep deflecting, excusing, and apologising for someone who is one of the worst knuckle draggers I have ever encountered, and even when he says something as unreconstructedly shitful as this you cant even bring yourself to say something as simple as "yeah, that was bad and is wrong and he shouldnt say it

For information, ive been on the end of both. As have other friends of mine, male and female. And the message is the same. I carry permanent physical scars from one, but the scars to everything else from rape go deeper and are more pervasive. And it is predominantly women who are threatened with and unable to escape from rape in our society.

Trying to equate harm to males and females because rape is the same as assault as part of some wrongheadded men have it as bad as women shtick offends me, offends ****ing common decency, and should offend you.

You mean one of these? Ryan loves tractors.

Apologies JB, I didn’t see this post before I posted the silly GIF on the tractor, and it looks disrespectful.

This is a serious discussion which I’d prefer to avoid, and being an empty head I resort to silly GIFs.

Hugs to you

I’m sorry to hear you say that, Good Horse, because you are probably my favourite poster on this entire site and I have a ton of time for you, but I fundamentally disagree with your argument.

There are degrees of assault, and yes I think that the kind that leave you on life support or permanently brain damaged are worse than rape.

1) You are making a qualification he didnt make. Stop excusing him by cleaning up his bullshit

2) I repeat, I have been both. In hospital, on life support with permanent injuries. Broken wrist, skull, nose, cheekbones, eye sockets, mosst of the skin either scored or burnt off my back, and that wasnt the worst bit.

But you know what comes back to me most in PTSD flashbacks? Him inside me.

If you are not prepared to listen to someone who has actually been there, I dont know what to do with you

The posts are there to be read.

Teachers can.

No, he seems to have plenty of people already.

Australian courts decide an online posters level of anonymity in this country.

Anything else?

Ok so the “evidence is out there, go look for it” approach. Cool.

Views can't be a breach, but expressing some views can be.

I’m dismayed to hear that you’ve had that experience, but it doesn’t change my assessment as stated in the post you quoted. You’ve actually been there; I’ve treated quite a few patients with traumatic brain injuries, I disagree with you, it is what it is.

As for making qualifications I have always thought of assault as an umbrella term, you appear to think of it as being your specific experience, which is your right and privilege. I’m not covering for anyone, this is my assessment.

Views can't be a breach, but expressing some views can be.

Naturally. Hence the need for posts that can be actually attributed to a working teacher.

Brother that kills me. I’m so sorry to hear that. You’re a ****ing good person and it makes me sick to hear you’ve had to endure that. And I respect you all the more for being the person you clearly are despite that experience.

Now you are going around in circles.

I agree assault is an umbrella term, which is why saying all assault is as bad is rape is infantile. Which is what he was doing.

you then made it about assault leading to brain injury or being on life support, which in your mind was worse than rape. Which was a qualification HE DID NOT MAKE. YOU MADE IT ABOUT THAT PART,.

I then pointed out that even on that score, the comparison isnt as cut and dried as you say. And you still ignore that.

And FYI, I am currently just home from a serious brain injury, and if I had to choose between this and being r*ped again, id choose this every day.

I don’t recall him saying that, but if he did then that’s ****ing stupid.

Gotta disagree with you there. I said all along that assault and rape are on a spectrum, and rapes start at the extreme end. Obviously that implies that some assaults also reach those extremes, and that was the example I gave. At no point did I change my story, go around in circles or “then make it about” anything.

I then pointed out that even on that score, the comparison isnt as cut and dried as you say. And you still ignore that.
I didn’t ignore it. I took it for what it is; one man’s first-hand experience. I don’t think I’m in a position to tell you how you should feel, I’m not going to trivialise your experience, but just because it didn’t change my mind it doesn’t mean I ignored it.

And FYI, I am currently just home from a serious brain injury, and if I had to choose between this and being r*ped again, id choose this every day.
Well that’s completely ****ed and I absolutely hear what you are saying and would like to say I can understand on some level, but I can probably only imagine.

From my own observations of some folks having suffered TBIs to the extent that their behaviour is completely foreign to loved ones, they can’t remember who they are, they don’t recognise their partners or children, they can’t tolerate any noise or light, they are unable to walk or feed themselves, they can’t form meaningful relationships with anyone other than the health professionals looking after them…

… it sounds wrong to say it, given who I’m talking to but given the choice I’m currently opting for “not that”.

Naturally. Hence the need for posts that can be actually attributed to a working teacher.
I don't disagree with you.

I personally don't find Domus's posts as offensive as everyone else seems to. I think I read them a bit differently - to me they're clumsy attempts to push his cause, rather than necessarily misogynistic. We're going through a period of significant change when many males have lost a lot due to globalisation, and the erosion of defined gender roles that society had taught us to build our identity and sense of worth around. If he wants to be a ranty spokesman for disenfranchised males - good luck to him - but he should stop diminishing other significant social issues in the process.

Don't want to get too far into this but the above, at least in Victoria, is so wrong it needs correction. Assault, whilst a serious offence, in terms of severity/seriousness, is far below rape.

Assault is on a spectrum which then "progresses" up to negligently/recklessly/intentionally causing serious injury.

It is a long way short of rape. Traditionally, and still today, the only crime that "rates" worse than rape is murder/manslaughter.

I think we can leave this one there.
