I think it's more about the way it was made, the back stories behind that, the cast and acting, and a few classic lines. I don't think it's great story telling.Tried so many times, still can't understand the level of love for this one.

The bookies agree with you. Hope he is getting a big payday out of this. I am always stunned by how these guys make weight. 176cm for Kambosos and 175 for Haney (although the stare off didn't look like that unless the latter was wearing stilettos) yet they can get themselves to 61kg.This Sunday: George 'Ferocious' Kambosos v Devin Haney. I'll put the shredded sadness of my credibility on the line and suggest that Haney will win a comfortable decision.
If he had more knockout power, it'd be over sooner than that.
This is George. As you can see, he has truly mastered the look of what he thinks a serious and tough fighter should look like.
He's active in the ring, not sure about ferocious. No big punch. Modest skillset.
And yet he became the lightweight champion of the world by beating the touted Teofimo Lopez in NYC last year. So kudos to anyone who gets the best out of themselves and overcomes the odds.

A lot of them get really weird with food. I've got a friend who was a national kickboxer, no longer fighting so his food weirdness is now not to make weight. I'll go to his house and he'll say things like I forgot to eat yesterday, whilst he has a bowl of 8 hard boiled eggs with sri racha sauce and nothing else - his one meal for the day.

I am no medico but that sounds like something that would have made last 12 round pretty hard? Not that I am doubting anything that comes out of the fight game.
That article read like sour grapes from a sympathetic journo. Full disclosure: I have a heavy bag that I use for about 20 minutes about once a fortnight - invariably with a hangover - so I consider myself a bit of an expert on what is and isn't possible when fighting in tough conditions.
