No more checking in to non-proof of Vacc venues is a good one. Heard that on the press conference.

Checking in at supermarkets, retail etc seem rare and not enforced anyway. No point any more.

The more promising easing will be capacity restrictions and it makes sense as it appears case numbers are steadying and the impact on the health system so far seems manageable. The soft landing may happen after all...

Lol - most people stopped checking in weeks ago. They don't do any contact tracing so there is no point.

Yeah I’ve got much more lax with that lately. If I’m ducking into Coles for a carton of milk and the close contact rules mean I’m not going to be a close contact unless I’ve been in there three hours, why bother?

I'm about to leave ISO after contracting COVID and was surprised to realise there s next to no contact from WA health (they just send you a survey checkng if you've been to hospital/aged care etc). Any contact tracing is up to you.

How'd you go, mate? Get belted around a bit or not too bad?

Wouldn't have known I had it if my wife didn't have symptoms and test positive. There was an outbreak at her work and she had a sore throat, then came up positive. I decided I would test too, given I'm a close contact. I had some fatigue for a day or two and she's had fatigue, sore throat and a bit of a cough for a few days. She's turned the corner now and we're out of isolation tomorrow.

I hadn't kept up with all the rule changes in the last few weeks and didn't realise the whole thing is an honour system. No one checks if you are isolating and it is up to you to let close contacts know (WA health don't want to know unless you've been to a high risk area). Luckily I was WFH for two days before and hadn't done much socialising, as it was during the week. The worst part was I couldn't go to the Eagles game on Sunday :)

Not sure if already mentioned on here, am curious about the long term effects of Covid. There's been reports that long after you're over it, it keeps working away on your brain, leading to early dementia/alzheimers?

"However, new research is now suggesting that there may be long-term neurologic consequences in those who survive COVID infections, including more than seven million Americans and another 27 million people worldwide. Particularly troubling is increasing evidence that there may be mild — but very real — brain damage that occurs in many survivors, causing pervasive yet subtle cognitive, behavioral, and psychological problems.
Even after those calculations, the researchers found 'significant effects' associated with SARS-CoV-2 infection. This includes a steeper reduction in grey matter thickness in the areas of the brain linked with smell and memory, including the orbitofrontal cortex, parahippocampal gyrus and the olfactory cortex..." - Harvard Medical School.

The olfactory/smell/memory thing can lead to mood swings and depression...
Cheery world we live in...

Does anyone want to have a crack at defending the remaining QR sign-in rules in today's announcement?
For venues with vaccine mandates?

I've just got back from Qld tonight and that is exactly what's happening there. The only places you have to check in are the places that have the mandate. They were very consistent with checking too.

I'm still not quite sure on the point of the check in - you could just check the vacc status.

Were they checking both the check-in and the vaccine status? Seems redundant to check the former.

Even the people in this thread who were formerly in the 'it just takes a second, what's the problem' crowd have given up on checking in.

That's all that's really being asked for here in my experience, and even then not that often.

I mean it was very useful when they were doing contact tracing but that has been canned since we started getting high caseloads so it is pointless now.

They were checking the "check in" which automatically brings up a tick in the Qld app based on vaccine status.

So yeah, I'm pretty sure it was just for the vaccine result.

As others have said if they are not contract tracing it's completely redundant. Even my wife who is a big rule follower has stopped checking in - she's such a rebel.

Wife returned a positive RAT this morning. Very faint line. She took a PCR too as she's classed as a critical worker and they like them to do PCRs too as they're more accurate (so she can get back into the classroom straight away if RAT was false positive). As a pregnant critical worker with a legit symptom (sore throat), they said her test result will be fast-tracked.

She's convinced the RAT was a false positive. We'll see I guess.

Myself and our son have no symptoms but obviously both stuck at home now too.

Friend tested positive to a RAT - awaiting PCR. Unfortunately has symptoms so looks quite probable the PCR will also test positive.

Now playing the waiting game as we were at a bar and obviously unmasked for more than 15 minutes. Yay for working from home but at least fingers crossed it should only be until Wednesday, and I am feeling fine at the moment along with everyone else at the table.

Have a close read of close contact rules. It says a shorter time for face to face (30 mins or something) and 2 hrs if you are in a confined space and both took masks off. I'll let you figure out what the difference is (I suspect it is ambiguous to give business wriggle room), but if I was at a pub, Id class myself in the 2hrs.
