Why?

If we’d brought him on earlier - and lost - people would have been pillorying the coach for unsettling the team when we had the lead?

Win the game, and every decision looks like a masterstroke.

Lose the game, and every decision looks like a dud one.

Lmao there's not a single person in history who's blamed the coach for bringing the sub on with 10 mins to go and the team losing, that's utter dribble.

You're seriously defending Fly bringing the sub on with 40 seconds left? It took him half that time just to run over to where the ball was 😂

We lost the lead with over 3.30 on the clock. Bringing him on with .47 seconds left. What was that going to achieve? If it was to achieve the win it would have been when Sydney were 12 points down & coming with a full sail, to try and arrest momentum. Not after they hit the front

How does subbing a small forward into a game at a time we’re getting spanked in the midfield and the footy is living in our defence arrest momentum?

You play him as a high half forward who charges into the mid to help create congestion and stop Sydney getting clearances, if they do get the clearance he goes to halfback and helps provide rebound from defence, or an outlet kick.

You'd swear people on here think half forwards cant leave the goal square 😂

Is there anything you can’t do kappa? Clearly a better medico than our club has, also a better coach than McRae. Send in the resume 👍

I hope he's not too stubborn in altering the game plan for next season, we can't go on parking the bus with 4 goal leads with 15 minutes left. It just invites opposition to storm home. Last season we were the masters of killing the game but that has gone this year. A new game plan is required. Great teams win convincingly consistently, they don't park the bus prematurely.

When you have a fresh set of legs sitting on the bench not using them until the final minutes is kind of stupid. He may as well not have played.

Not sure why anyone is bothering to defend that decision and not sure why he didn't come on half way through the last quarter which is kind of the norm.

Richards buzzing around the forward line in place of the tiring legs of a Schultz or Lipinski might well have been enough to get us that one extra goal required.

Anyway it's done now just like our season.

he should have been on at three quarter time for Schultz or Lippa. Just bizarre

The point you made in support pretty much represents where we have lost our way for a significant period now.

“Losing our way” won us a Premiership?

So Richards is going to stop Heeney and Warner when his more physically able team mates can’t… gotcha.

You’d swear people on here think players like McCreery and Schultz weren’t already doing that 😂

Not for me or anyone else to defend the decision. But I’m happy to back the coaching panels assessment of how they use the 23 players they have at their disposal. They’re better placed to make those calls than us mug punters.

He is a learner & innovator. Won't be stubborn & not understand the changes that need to be made. I have complete faith we have the right coach. The list though is another matter.

Every coach of every VFL/AFL side throughout the competitions history has made mistakes. They're human just like us mug punters and it's what we humans do.

Hell people in the media, former stars of the game call out coaches all the time. Is everyone wrong or only people who have watched the game for 40 odd years?

Not sure why McRae would be immune and not sure why some have such trouble calling out what appears a very weird decision. Not like anyone is calling for his head over it.

I simply don't see a downside to bringing on Richards with 10 minutes of game time left. By that stage if an injury happens it's just rotten luck. I can see a possible upside as a fresh set of legs that late in a game generally stand out like dogs balls in comparison to those who have slogged it out for 3 quarters.

Not claiming they’re infallible. Just backing them in given their record over the last 3 years deserves that. They haven’t made too many blues.

Been coaching with one hand tied behind his back all year, the constant injuries to key players never gave us a real crack at going back to back.
He will go to work in the preseason and tweak the game plan and we will go again.
Reckon next year is the last with this list before a rebuild.
It was a season of not quite enough

What a dumb post, he doesn’t need to stop Heeney or Warner, he has fresh legs and he’s fast against tired legs, he can have an impact that helps the team.

Ha selective there.

But a better take than endorsing the 47 second sub as shrewd, because we were losing.

The shift in gamestyle from what we were doing has been evident for most of this season.
Why wouldn't we want to change our game style?

When we were losing, everyone said we'd been worked out.

We changed all the assistant coaches around this year. Obviously that would bring its own changes & challenges.

And we had non stop injuries all year which only would have hampered any consistency or connection we needed.

At the end of the day, we lost by 3 points last night to a team which has been on top of the ladder all year. Probably reinforces how close the comp is this year.

The fact so many other teams this year are doing what we've done for 2 years, and that's come back from 30+ in a qtr to win, is a credit to Fly & his game style.

Had it not been for so many injuries this year, I have no doubt we would have been right up there again this year.

The only dumb thing going on here is your assumption that he definitely would have had more impact than those already out there.

Didn't like the way he questioned the umpiring saying that it would have been a 50m penalty at The G.All that has done has got the masses of Collingwood haters saying we get preferential treatment at the G. Should have said both that incident and the ones against the Roos were incorrect decisions and needs addressing. Oh as well as the ridiculous no intent rules that have got players baffled, had a great opportunity to question that.

A big fan of his coaching but needs to get busy next year with our list.
