I don't really drink so yeah I would never have to do that. You are probably still young and feel the need to go into the city and get drunk (which i definitely don't) but where will you live when you want settle down and buy a home? Good luck buying anything near the city unless you inherit a pile of cash. I'm not from Cranbourne, I grew up in a nice eastern suburb but I can't afford to buy anything decent in that area. I don't want to live in an old run down house which would still cost over $500k. I don't mind driving, I like living in a new house. A lot of people here knocking outer suburbs will live in an outer suburb one day fact, because you need $1.5m to buy a decent house in a better suburb. Or you could rent forever which I would never want to do.

Oh and my sister got a cab from the airport to here and it was about $60 or $70 and the airport is a lot further away than the city. She now lives 10km from the city and it takes her about as long as me to get home from central places. Difference being a direct freeway vs annoying little skinny city streets. Her suburb is also more dangerous than mine (western suburb)
I am actually paying a mortgage on my house. I am in Essendon. Cracking suburb. Married with a small child but I still manage to head out on the weekends. Unfortunatly Manila_Playa87 I do not have a white picket fence :(

As I still frequent Cranbourne I did manage to visit Frankston last week for work and saw some stuff I've never seen in Cranbourne i.e. at least 25 under-18y.o. mums, police setting up a van and interviewing more teenagers and as it must have been dole day there were quite a few sites around the ATM's that day.

Cranbourne has NOTHING on Frankston!

I love redundant support beams.

Cranbourne > Sunshine. You actually can't walk the streets of Sunshine and feel safe.

At least Sunshine's not an odyssey to the city.

Honestly if people think Ringwood is that bad they have very very sheltered lives.

Late 90's and early 00's Ringwood was legitimately awful (mostly because of heroin). There's a huge mental health and methadone facility next to Maroondah hospital too, so a lot of the "Ringwood is a hole!" stuff comes from people observing the mentally ill in and around Ringwood station.

The housing commission area near the lake is pretty awful, there's been a lot of rapes and assaults near there, but the one near the station is very safe (mostly burmese migrants and refugees, they don't bother anyone).

Also, with the nightclubs there seemingly attracting every bogan in the vicinity, there's always a few dustups on Saturday nights.

But I agree, if you look at the area in the immediate vicinity of Ringwood station or East Ringwood station, its easy to call it a bad area. But if you go more than a km away from there you'll see most homes going for upwards of 600k, and they're great old architecture, big blocks with a lot of amenities nearby.

Also, the Strictly Ringwood boys are doing a great job of painting every train station in the SE suburbs with giant "SR" pieces.

The Belgrave and Pakenham lines are considered the two worst in the state for "anti-social" behaviour, but that includes graffiti and everyone from Ringwood - Belgrave has tagged something at some point. Lilydale line is one of the safest which means most of the trouble is associated with Boronia and Bayswater (and North Baysy is a deadset shithole).

As far as the actual worst suburb around at the moment, there's no competition. It's Noble Park and has been for nearly ten years. There have been actual race related murders there on a couple of occasions. You've got the Viet gangs, Islander gangs and African gangs hating eachother and a tonne of crazy racist bogans (like the two guys who killed Liep Gony). The Sudanese "Bloods" gang are based there too. I remember a year or two ago they had to have a 24 hour police presence at Noble station for weeks on end. And not just regular cops, they had shields and protective gear on.

These things tend to ebb and flow, but I really would love to see a lot of our new migrants settled in Toorak, Kew, Williamstown for a while. Nothing against refugees, but why do Glenroy, Ringwood, Noble Park, Springy, Dandy and Hallam have to take 95% of them?

I met some people last week from Cranbourne. English couple originally from Staley Bridge in Manchester UK. They had this real air of superiority about them.

No one likes to think they are snobs and pull the superior complex on someone over the suburb they live in but I freely admit to silently thinking "ha ha you unwashed scum, go back to your shithole".
