Comment from Ravi Shastri, "Head's new nickname in the Indian camp is Travis Headache." LOL

Better than Isa Guha who might just have ended her commentary career with her MVP comment (although it is Fox and anything is possible there).

Mitch Marsh fails again. In this series Marsh has 67 runs at 16.75 an innings and 3 wickets at 34.3. Marsh has the figures in white ball cricket but does not seem to be able to replicate that form in Tests.
To be fair I dont think he is part of the plan, but Green's injury has forced him to be picked again

Id hope not. One of the best commentators in the world.

Its a bizarre and awful comment though - lets wait for her explanation before judging.

Given that Isa is of Indian decent, it shouldn't be a problem should it? Odd thing to say though? Is she itimating that he looks a bit like a primate? I don't know. If somebody of your own race makes that comparison can it be construed as racist?

When Bob Skilton got nicknamed The Chimp because he kind of looked like one it was okay, when Eddie Betts got called one it was racist.

He had the best form of all of the top 6 going into this series.

All of 87 overs bowled by India today. On a day with an extra 90 minutes of play, to make up for the lost time on day 1.

They were supposed to bowl 98 total.

And this was with Jadeja zipping through 16, 90second overs.

It's getting global coverage now, including the Times of India so they will have to respond in some form. Although the outrage probably comes from widespread misunderstanding of the word 'primate' (which all humans are of course). IMHO it was just an odd mis-comment rather than an intended racial slur.

But at a time when everyone is looking for an excuse to re-ignite the 'monkey' wars of past test battles between the two countries, the use of the word 'primate' instead of 'person' was always going to get attention.

Yeah I just wish she would address it so everyone can move on.

Everyone goes from 0 to 100 in the outrage game immediately rather than letting dialogue occur.

If they didn't waste 30 seconds to a minute just about every over deciding whether to go to DRS for one of their outlandish appeals (which they spent years refusing to use) maybe they would get a few more overs in.

Isa courageously straight out apologised live on air this morning for anyone who was offended by her choice of words. Saying that she only meant words of the highest praise for one of India's greatest players (Bumrah) who she admires greatly. Stating that as someone of southern Asian heritage (she's a British-Indian whose parents came from Kolkata), hopes people understand she never meant any intentional malice.

Indian great, Ravi Shastri, was sitting next to her during her apology and said lets move on.

Isa is one of the very best commentators in the sport and speaks coherently and intelligently. I hope we can move on and focus on the game. And I hope it doesn't mean she dumbs down her commentary to match David Warner's bumbling monosyllabic commentary.

Edit: The apology in full:

Yea she handled that well I suspect it was more a fumbled out word moment than anything else.

Respect to her for addressing it as opposed to the ditzy Rebecca Maddern hiding after the Las Vegas comment.

I am a fan of Isha Guha, but her comment was a shit for brains, stupid comment. There was absolutely no reason at all for her to replace player, with primate, when describing Bumrah as the MVP.

Good on her for apologising, but if Bumrah was asked about it in a presser last night and he teed off at her, I would have applauded him, despite some would have said he is bullying a female commentator. Stupidity has to be called out these days, as so much of it goes thru to the keeper - pun intended.

Great to see Travis Head just ripping the oppo apart again. Recently I said he is the new Dougie Walters, but Dougie didn't score at the sort of rate Head does. We don't have Dougie's full career strike rate as balls faced weren't always kept but its well under 60 for the total innings that they were kept.

He is more Adam Gilchrist. Gilly's scoring rate in Tests was 81.95, Head's is only 67.03 but is 10th highest for batsmen who have made 3000+ test runs. ( edit but a couple of them Clem Hill and Victor Trumper are dodgy part career stats - less than 30% of innings) Gilly is 2nd just behind Shewag of India.

Head's knock for some reason made me think of the recent discussion in here about Hookes and Lehmann and even Wayne Phillips.

If Bobby Simpson was coach of the team he would be railroading Head out of the team. He didn't like risky players, especially lefthanders who played risky cut shots. He had a say in stopping all 3 South Aussies playing more test cricket when he was Oz coach between 1985 and 1995 as well as a selector.

Allan Border lent on him heavily when Oz cricketing stocks were so low, after rebel tour to South Africa drained Oz of its player depth and the 80's was so even that only the Windies would regularly win tests series away from home.

But once the Oz cricket system was restored, especially after the Cricket Academy was set up in 1989 and run by Rod Marsh, but Lillee, the Chappells and co had a big influence on the coaching side, Mark Taylor pissed Simpson as soon as his contract finished in 1995, within about 12 months of him taking over from Border.

Head turns 31 on December 29, so I'd say he's got at least 5 years remaining in his career. Hopefully he can keep this awesome form going for a while yet, because unless you're an opposition bowler, it's wonderful to watch.
