Just another bunch of games that no one will remember next week, may as well enjoy it.
Yeah just like Aussies - we seemingly can't lose a T20 right now, but it won't mean much on Thursday week, if we collapse at the Gabba.

SA 1/294. Jake Weatherald 153 n.o
Henry Hunt 132

Matthew Wade bowling.

With any other side you would probably say they are playing themselves into a winning position but not our Redbacks.

Mark Sodastream said that the Redbacks were in a great position to break their extended run of no wins. Did he forget that Tassie have not yet batted.

Good as done - Tassie now 0 for 54, so we now only have to take another 20 wickets :).

In 2015-16 SA finished first by 0.50 pts but nothing much in top 5 sides. hosted the shield final at Glenelg and lost to Vic by 7 wickets. 2016-17 Vic was the dominate team 2 wins clear and SA drew the final in Alice Springs but were 6 down in the 2nd innings and still about 285 runs behind.

Since then they have struggled and since late 2017-18 have been competitive at best, but capitulated too many times when in the lead or in a winable position.

SA lost the last 3 shield games of 2017-18 after in Rd 7 a rare win against NSW at the SCG by 7 wickets. Finished last with 2 wins 6 loses and 2 draws.
Rd 8 v Qld at AO lost by 118 runs
Rd 9 v Tas at Bellrive oval by 16 runs - chasing 330
rd 10 v WA at Glenelg oval by 241 runs

2018-19 lost 6 games and drew 4. Drew the first 3 against NSW and Qld at AO then Vic at MCG and drew Rd 6 against NSW at SCG. Closet SA got to a victory was on a sticky Gabba wicket rd 9 when lost by 43 runs but neither side made more than 131.

2019-20
Rd 1 at Junction Oval v Vic both side made 600+ on a road and a boring draw
Rd 2 at Gabba v Qld, poor 2nd innings so Qld only need 150 to win, got there 6 down. Another 70 runscould have won.
Rd 3 at AO NSW - Sayers takes 13 wickets but batsmen crumble only make 201 and lose by 96 runs.

Declaring at lunch on Day 4 when 6/490 means they are trying to get a win. Whether they do will depend if they bat ok in the 2nd innings as bowlers havent been the problem the last 3 years.

Pucovski obviously has some serious issues with mental health and that does not suggest he should be playing for Australia anytime soon. Will is a talented player with a future but he probably needs a year or two to sort some personal issues out. This is the second time within twelve months he has been forced to take time out so that does not look good for the young man.

Bancroft back in the squad which is no surprise after he top scored in the Australia A debacle.
Burns in for Khawaja is also not a surprise as Khawaja is out of form and he is not really an opener.
Travis Head must wonder where he stands dropped one minute, then reinstated as joint Vice Captain the next.

Well, if Australia was strong in batting none of them would have made it but three of them did.
Yeah our bowling is looking super strong, but the batting is still a worry. If Smith fails, we may struggle to post a decent score.

Redbacks extend their winless streak to 17 matches. It has to be more than lack of talent, there is a losing culture associated with this team. If you look at the players available over the past two years the line up is not that bad, in fact two years ago this side was in a Shield Final.

It has reached the stage where not being able to win and finding new ways to loose has become the norm. The squad needs strong leadership off the field. The SACA need to get off their collective arse and spend some money on a straight talker who can break the cycle of loss.

Just saw Langer's presser and FMD the spin about Starc and why they haven't picked him and loving his development as he's a brilliant white ball bowler and he bowled really well in 4th test against the poms - didn't reverse swing it, but swung it and its been great development. We win the 4th test, they drop him for Siddle and we lose the test.

Starc is 29 and had played 50+ tests and taken 200+ wickets. Look where he sits compared to other Oz bowlers

Starc....... 52 Tests 215 wickets Ave 28.26 strike rate 50.0 debut 21.9 years of age last test 29.6 years old
Hughes.... 53 Tests 212 wickets Ave 28.38 strike rate 57.9 debut 24.1 years of age last test 32.3 years old
Thompson 51 Tests 200 wickets Ave 28.20 strike rate 52.6 debut 23.2 years of age last test 35.0 years old

So its crap to say that Starc is a developing bowler when he has overtaken two blokes that people say were greats of Australia cricket bowling stocks between 1975-1995.

Siddle's record is a shit load poorer. Sure he is a bit of a specialist in Uk conditions but his last test showed he isnt any better than Starc.

Siddle..... 67 Tests 221 wickets Ave 30.66 strike rate 62.9 debut 23.9 years of age last test 34.7 years old

Cricket Australia bans Hobart Hurricanes WBBL player Emily Smith for Instagram post

Hobart Hurricanes WBBL player Emily Smith has been handed a one-year ban — with nine months suspended — for a breach of Cricket Australia's (CA) anti-corruption code after she posted her team's line-up on Instagram.

Smith posted the team line-up "approximately an hour" before the official scheduled release ahead of the Hurricanes' fixture against Sydney Thunder in Burnie on November 2.

The match was later abandoned without a ball being bowled because of inclement weather.

CA's anti-corruption code prohibits "disclosing inside information to any person (with or without reward) where the participant knew or might reasonably have known that such disclosure might lead to the information being used in relation to betting in relation to any match or event.

The narcissistic ideology of social media platforms strikes again! When are people, specifically those with a public identity, going to learn that posts on these platforms can and often have real life consequences..?
While the penalty in this instance may seem harsh, assuming Emily had no idea her post was in breach of such codes and particularly given the match was abandoned, it will hopefully be a good lesson for others...

The puritans who are running the game in Australia seem hell bent on being the game's moral policemen and women. A twelve month suspended ban was way over the top for what was not a deliberate attempt to break the rules. Surely a suspension for a couple of matches and a hefty fine would have got the message across.

In the meantime we note that which many of us said would happen has happened. West Indian Nicholas Poonan has been found guilty of ball tampering in a T20 match in Lucknow India. His penalty? - four T20 matches. Judging by his philosophical reaction to the news Steve Smith has obviously been 'counseled' to watch what he has to say if he ever wants to Captain Australia again. Steve Smith's response was that, 'he does not feel hard done by'. Ball tampering is ball tampering, it is illegal and the players know it yet the lack of consistent action means that players will still try to get away with it.

When was the last time an opening pair batted through an entire day in a Test match in Australia? Could happen today.
Probably Hobbs and Suttcliffe days.

Here you go, its only happened once in Oz, that any team and any wicket partnership has batted all day. I was right about it being Hobbs and Sutcliffe, remember reading it a few times over the years, but if I had to guess the year, I would have gone for early 1930's not 1925.

Its only happened 24 times in test cricket

Remember Taylor and Marsh doing it at Trent Bridge in 1989, and Steve Waugh and Blewett in South Africa in 1997. Also stayed up and watched of lot of Lara and Adams partnership - it changed the test series in Jamaica in 1999 and will never forget VVS Laxman and Dravid in Calcutta/Kolkata in 2001.

Thanks REH - great stat.
