Feel for Hunt and Renshaw, only a 18-24 months ago Henry Hunt was all but selected now not even in the Australia A line up. Renshaw the most runs by an Australian before turning 21/22. Came back in in the subcontinent batting middle order, then we turned to Cameron Green. Then Mitch Marsh came in and Smith opened the batting. Now a new shinny 19 year old has come through…

Personally I would line up;
Khawaja
Hunt
Labuschange
Smith
Head
Marsh
Carey
Starc
Cummins
Lyon
Hazelwood

In the next 2 years with the stick, Konstas for Kahwaja, McSweeney/Renshaw for Smith, Green for Marsh

Still few matches before the Test series. If Hunt can add a few more big scores (already has a ton) he might be a late addition to the next Aus A match and maybe even the first Test. But McSweeney has stood up in this game, 131 balls faced for his 39 when everyone else fell around him. Could be called up if he continues his form.

I don’t disagree with what you’re saying, I am of the belief Openers open, middle order batsmen should do an apprenticeship at 6, Keepers bat at 7… To open or bat at three is similar but not the same, the mindset of an opener is different to batting at three, four or five.

I also believe your best bat bats at three to recover after a quick wicket early, or to guide and manipulate the innings.

We're talking about the Aussie selectors here. All that goes out the window lol

Hunt 62 today in the Shield game vs Vic. Lehmann yet another duck.
