Using my VPN for the first time in a long time and connected to a server in US to watch something on NBC's twitter account and I got a bit of a surprise to see that Sports Trending in USA is the #BorderGavaskarTrophy.

All those expats in USA either getting pumped for the series, or worried they will continue their losing streak after home series loss to the kiwis. Plus a few expat Aussies may have thrown in a comment.

The Indian diaspora in USA is about 5.1 million, and born in India is 2.8 million of that 5.1 million.

It was exactly the same in this mornings Advertiser. Looks like a Murdoch thing across the nation. I am not sure why we need it, it may have been sponsored by Cricket Australia in an attempt to encourage the ex pat Indians through the gate although I am not sure they would need much encouragement. It was simple task to peel the two front and back pages off and chuck them in the bin. Load of wank imo.

After regularly seeing T20I games in progress at the top of Cricinfo home page between say, Denmark v Spain, Cyprus v Greece, Bhutan v Maldives etc last night,I looked up how many nations and territories are given T20 International status at

It is 103 nations and territories as having played official international games.

Take away 8 teams, ie a World XI and 7 territories of Bermuda and Cayman Islands who have National Olympic Committees (NOCs) plus Gibraltar, Guernsey, Isle of Man, Jersey and St Helena and you have 95 nations. But the West Indies isn't a nation it covers players from 10 nations, 3 British territories and the US Virgin Islands so that is 104 nations are effectively represented - all who have National Olympic Committees + Bermuda and Cayman Islands makes it 106.

Edit The West Indies can't play at the Olympics but Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago etc could as they have a NOC.

That was part of the IOC's condition to get into the Olympics, be played in 100 nations / NOCs and a new sport has the chance to get repeat Olympics.

Break Dancing and Flag Football in 2028 are part of the new rules that the home nation can pick a sport that doesn't meet all the criteria that newer sports like softball and baseball, rugby sevens, squash and lacrosse have to meet. I reckon Brisbane will choose Surf Lifesaving as their "home nation" sport.

So there is around 100 nations/territories that could play Oz in a T20I and have the same status as an Oz v India game have.

So make 120 in a game for Cyprus vs Greece and it has the same status as 120 Travis Head makes against South Africa. Have a batting average of 55 and 1700 runs for Bhutan in T20I's and that has the same statistical comparison as someone who has made 1700 runs at 55 in T20I's for Oz or India, England, NZ etc.

Looked at ODI status and 29 nations and territories have international status. 20 nations have played at an ICC ODI World Cup.

3 of those teams are African, Asian and World XIs, East Africa combined nations played in 1975 WC but no longer exist so down to 25 teams. Jersey is a territory of UK have played 5 games in 2023 so down to 24 teams. There are 5 nations that haven't been to an ODI WC but have been to a T20I WC and have ODI international staus - Hong Kong, Nepal, Oman PNG and USA which leaves the 19 nations that have been to a WC.

Scotland is called a nation but it doesn't have a NOC.

This is what I meant in my previous post that someone from a minnow nation could play a lot of T20I's against other minnow nations and be the statistical leader in T20I official records.
