Yes, they want the best playing the best more often.

They do, my main concern with it is that it cheapens the series a little bit.

That said, could you imagine if one of the big teams did fall into Tier 2 and we dont see them. Despite being amongst the big boys currently, nobody watches Test cricket in South Africa and Sri Lanka.

Not sure how this tiered system helps that.

Yeah, I agree with a commentator I heard this morning, it's just acknowledging what is already happening

You would have hoped CA would have learnt that you can kill the golden goose, like they did with the BBL.

We just need to make sure they invest in the smaller countries, which they won't.

Its 100% designed to have Australia, England, India and South Africa play each other more often and maximise the rilvaries. It will cheapen it because do we need to have Australia play 10 tests against India every 2 years and 10 ashes tests etc. Thats what it will be.

Its ill conceived and it will likely kill test cricket.

Whats killing test cricket is series fatigue. Yes Australia, India and England all have fantastic test series but thats it. Its a left over tradition from the time countries had to travel by boat or long winded plane travel. So tours were made to make the travel time worth it. Modern travel kind of makes this thinking redundant. This is probably an area of the game where perhaps the ICC explores reformating test cricket away from a 2/3 test series.

How about an international test match each year with only 2 players representing the leading 11 test countries. Captaincy and selection would fall to the two captains of the ICC test championship final.
All players paid equally.

Global audience and provides lower ranked countries to rub shoulders with the stronger test players.

Alternatively, the test championship winners get the opportunity to host a match against "the rest of the world".

Would be good if most Test matches could at least go at least 4 days...

Over a 2 year period...

Play against 5 teams in your tier (at least 3 test series) at least once.

Play against 1 team in the other tier (but these points don't count towards ICC championship).

Top 2 of tier 1 play off for championship.

Bottom of tier 1 play top of tier 2 for relegation.
