Bumrah just applied a little sweat to the ball and polished it. Not legal anymore I believe.
Players aren't allowed to use mobile phones during the days' play either - which hasn't stopped Konstas from taking hundreds of selfies whenever fielding in the outfield.

Applying sweat may be illegal - but it's a whole lot less egregious than sandpaper or lolly glucose.

I'm going to go all old man on Konstas

Mostly

I love his attitude which at times is far removed from the humble rookie who is meant to swallow shit and accept all the abuse that comes his way - that Konstas fights against that is great. ( I have said I want to see 1st game AFL players have a similar mindset - dont be bullied)

BUT

I would like to see an opener chew up balls before launching ramp shots etc. High reward high risk. It doesnt mean he has to not try and play shots just be aware of the requirement of an opener. Yes Warner lived on launching but he also had a solid defensive game

Maybe Sam is another who would benefit from the old Australian selection process where they come in and bat 6-8 and let the senior players take the long game

tl;dr love his attitude but needs to be tempered with his role

I agree with this. I'm also not sure he has the technique to play that way at the highest level. Maybe he knows it too, which is why he throws the bat a bit. Leaves a gate defensively and goes very hard at it with his hands. I'm not really sold on him tbh. Not at this early stage of his career anyway.

The good thing is at 19 you've still got the ability to make significant adjustments.

Gets harder if you come in in your mid to late 20s and you're set.

I had a look at his 100s vs the Jellybacks and there were a lot less of the unorthodox shots.

The kid has some work to do though, that's for sure.

Is legal I think

There was a period around Covid where no moisture was allowed onto the ball

I believe now though that no spit can go on the ball, but sweat can

I don't know what to think.

I haven't seen his Shield innings but the reports from others are that he doesn't bat anything like this.

In the Aus A match that got shortened by rain and effectively became a "red ball one dayer" he did bat like this, and made runs.

Is what we're seeing him? Or is this just an approach he's chosen to take now from a tactical sense?
