I mean he's the vice-captain so it would make sense.Yeah that's true too
I heard Talk on Travis Head, could be worse
Obviously Cummins will probably be around for a fair while to come, but appointing Smith just seems a bit silly.

Acknowledgement that he probably is the best choice though.I mean he's the vice-captain so it would make sense.

Yep, should have given it to Head as our next captain in waiting... who has had plenty of state level leadership experience.I mean he's the vice-captain so it would make sense.

I just don't know if Captain of SA holds much weight.Yep, should have given it to Head as our next captain in waiting... who has had plenty of state level leadership experience.
Head had success with our under age team.I just don't know if Captain of SA holds much weight.
He did get us into a couple of finals?
Captaining a competent team should be much easierI just don't know if Captain of SA holds much weight.
He did get us into a couple of finals?
I just wonder what CA are thinking.Head had success with our under age team.
One of the youngest ever state captains.
He's a natural leader & calm head.
His form over the last 18-24 months seems to be in an uptrend which is promising. It had been a very lean period before that for a while.I always thought Renshaw was the guy to be the long term opener, had the right mentality, technically very good. Good pairing with an attacking partner. But he never really kicked on.
If you listen to his recent Howie Games ep, Trav doesn't seem super keen on any form of captaincy long term, but maybe could be convinced if it's only for one short tour that's effectively a dead rubber for the WTC.Head had success with our under age team.

Cam Green is a potential candidate longer term. Smart cricket brain and very good in all 3 aspects of the game.I just wonder what CA are thinking.
He's 31, he is a match winner, he can always be vice captain, does making him captain impact the way he bats ?
Be interesting, I mean we don't have many candidates
Hasn't his form in red ball cricket been a bit rubbish? His form over the last 18-24 months seems to be in an uptrend which is promising. It had been a very lean period before that for a while.
Also developed a better attacking game through the BBL, doesn't get bogged down like he used to. Made a very good 100 in Queensland's last one day game.
Could be a smokey for the Ashes (or once Ussie retires) IF his form continues in the Shield after the BBL and then into county cricket.
307 runs @ 27.90 in this summer's Sheffield Shield, which is only the 19th most runs by batsmen (and he's even lower in the rankings if you want to talk averages).Hasn't his form in red ball cricket been a bit rubbish?
Yeah, gather there will be less teams in tiers... perhaps more tiers? There's already tiered test cricket. Afghanistant, Ireland, Zimbabwe play tests but aren't included in the World Test Championship.

Yes, they want the best playing the best more often.I get why they want to, it's all $$$
The old saying: the best leaders are those who don't want to lead.If you listen to his recent Howie Games ep, Trav doesn't seem super keen on any form of captaincy long term, but maybe could be convinced if it's only for one short tour that's effectively a dead rubber for the WTC.
Great ideaCurrently 9 teams in the ICC World Championship.
Proposal is for top 6 to play each other - currently South Africa, Australia, India, New Zealand, Sri Lanka & England.
Then gather next 6 - Bangladesh, Pakistan & West Indies + Ireland,, Zimbabwe & Afghanistan
Then a relegation system... which would relegate England, which would be an issue for the Ashes!
Yeah, I was thinking the same that there should be a relegation play off.Great idea
Though the bottom of Tier 1 should play the winner of Tier 2
Need to knock them off to be promoted
Gee, thought his red ball form had been more consistent than that! Must be getting muddled with his white ball form.307 runs @ 27.90 in this summer's Sheffield Shield, which is only the 19th most runs by batsmen (and he's even lower in the rankings if you want to talk averages).
His scores this season:
vs WA: 6 & 15
vs SA: 2 & 21
vs NSW: 25
vs Tas: 121 & 20
vs Vic: 14 & 0
vs Vic: 59 & 24
Only got past 25 twice in 11 innings.
Not exactly battering down the selectors' door, demanding that they pick him.
