Crown Melbourne Part 4

Coming back in May. 20ish tables in the old high limit area downstairs. 5 handed, full rake. Lowest game will probably be 2/5, definitely no 1/2.

I actually would have preferred if crown just let poker go. Think we would have seen a lot of poker rooms open up if they did.

Crown Perth has been 5 handed since about Sept 2020 (pub poker full ring).

They reduced rake for a while but eventually went back to full price.

The degens will play, and because of that the sharps will follow probably.

Is the 5 handed just so it rakes more. Have they been told they have to do that?

Played 1/3 last night for the first time since Feb 2020. Wait for all tables is lengthy, especially 1/3 and 2/5. Put my name down at 5:30 and table opened up about 6:10, there was 34 people in the queue at the time.

A couple of changes as well, no food at or near the tables (good), no progressive jackpot (bad) and hand santiser placed every two seats.

The most frustrating part is given it's 6 max only one person is supposed to be away from the table at the time, and they get picked up after two orbits. If a second person leaves the table they get picked up after one orbit. Completely ridiculous if you need to go to the toilet, have a cigarette etc that you'll be picked up in as little as 5 minutes.

Spoke with the dealer, Aussie Millions may be back in 2023, it just depends on demand. They may also add more poker tables in due course, however it's still to be determined.

Also quick update which I forgot to mention. Former Crown Melbourne poker director Joel Williams has jumped ship to APL back in Feb, who are now live streaming final tables on twitch complete with RFID tracking in the cards. I missed all of that news.

Side note does anyone know what his predecessor Jonno Pittock is up to these days?

Aussie Millions only in 2023 is so long :(

Crown Poker is back, however every single player needs to obtain a Crown Club Card and hand it over before being allowed to play. This is to comply with the new player safety rules implemented by the government, as Crown now needs to keep track of players playing more than 12 hours a day. Six max still in effect for now, and multi hour wait times to get a table at weekends. The golden days of poker at Crown are over :'(

Thanks for the update. I was going to check it out tonight/tomorrow night but that sounds sh*t

Have been going a bit recently. It will never be like the glory days, but take what you can get at this point. They open up new tables every 2 hours when a new shifts start, so if you time your run you don't have to wait around long.

People there are confident poker will bounce back once the heat from the RC wears off. Aussie Millions also expected to make a comeback.

Are the Texas holdem rules normal there? What's the rake and what's the minimum $ table? Can you rock up and play during a week day . What's this crown card bs? Can you watch a table or is this frowned upon?
Thanks in advance.
Haven't been in a while but I'll answer based on when I last went.
Yes normal rules
10% rake and minimum was $1/$2 blinds (this might have changed)
Yes you can rock up any time I believe (also might have changed since covid)
Need a crown card to sit down at a table I believe
Yes you can watch from the rail

Thanks, 10% rake is ridiculously high. Makes it hard to win.
