There is no minimum, hands can have 0 rake if no action pre-flop for instance. Cap means the max they can rake.

So at 1/2 I think it's 10% capped at 5BB so max is $10 rake per hand (5x2)
 
In all the years I've lived in Melbourne, I've been to Crown once... and it was to go to the Gold Class cinema way back when those were new 20 years ago.

Is there anything someone with anxiety should know before wandering into the poker room? Do I have to pre-register details? Do you have to register details there, or just put your name in the queue and play? When are the busy times and the quiet times? Is it quiet or do people talk shit? Is there an hourly break/what do I do when I want a dart?

I've played at Star City before, but even that's going back 10 years, and when I was there last year I couldn't even find a poker room.

you’ll need a rewards card which is simple enough to get.

you can leave the table whenever you want so long as there’s no more than one player already gone.

it’s pretty relaxed i wouldn’t be intimidated by it, worst comes to worst just rack up and leave.

Melbourne’s Crown casino will force punters to take a break every three hours and restrict gaming to a maximum of 36 hours a week in responsible gambling reforms announced by the Victorian government on Monday.

Under the new code, Crown will have to enforce 15-minute breaks if a person has been gambling for three continuous hours.

Anyone who has gambled for 12 hours in any 24-hour period will need to take a full day off, and nobody will be allowed to game for more than 36 hours in a week.
The casino will need to update its code of conduct within six months under a direction issued by Melissa Horne, the Minister for Casino, Gaming and Liquor Regulation, to implement a recommendation of the 2021 royal commission.

Carol Bennett, chief executive of the Alliance for Gambling Reform, said the changes were useless unless they were implemented statewide because a gambler could simply move to a pub or club that has no regulatory time limits.

Crown Perth has similar rules (I haven't played there since covid started).

But yes absolutely great news to the home games and pub poker operators in Perth and Melbourne (over here pub operators can run cash games, but 6hr permit limits. The work around is two licenced venues close to each other back to back.

From the week beginning May 22, Crown will bring 1/3 and 2/5 NLH in line with the bigger games, namely doubling the max buy-in and adding an optional live straddle. Min buy-ins expected to remain as is.

1/3 (with optional live straddle)
$100-$600 buy-in, 10% rake to $15

2/5 (with optional live straddle)
$200-$1000 buy-in, 10% rake to $15
 
So the changes have come into effect, and 1/3 and 2/5 are still 20 seconds to act. Still very new to players and even the dealers. Straddles did not seem overly common, but they tended to get 3-bet, only twice over five hours did I see anyone straddle and it not get raised.

Played with the new rules for the first time today. I joined a live table and was surprised at the small stack sizes considering the new buy-ins.

I'd say 80% of hands had straddles.

They also seemed to have more dealers around ready to open tables, so that's a positive.
 
In Crown Casino’s latest push to encourage responsible gambling, if you arrive on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday evening, you may not be able to put your name on the 1/3 list because it’s hidden and locked. You can play 2/5 or higher but not 1/3. Just 8 tables of 1/3, 10+ tables of 2/5. Min buy-in $200 on 2/5 and if anyone does buy-in for the minimum, they are going to get crushed.

Midnight on a Sunday night and they have reduced 1/3 down to just 3 tables, not because of a lack of demand though, I think many that were on the list just went home. I heard from two people that said they were a minute late after getting an SMS and were told there was nothing they could do.

The other five 1/3 tables have been converted to 2/5 as people progressively left from 1/3. The 1/3 list is back up but they are waiting to get on just 3 tables. Would not surprise me if 1/3 goes the same way as 1/2. They should just bring back the $5 sit down charge for 1/3 if they’re concerned they aren’t getting $15 rake per hand.
