To be honest, it's pretty hard to follow, even though we are avid gamers. It's not something you would ever watch unless you're quite into the game, and there are quite a few different big games running their own leagues and comps.
Just caught up with the esport talk. I watch some from time to time, being interested in the game helps, but I still watch pro teams play things I don't play myself.

DOTA, or any MOBA really isn't my thing, I like to watch Rocket League. I don't really play multiplayer FPS anymore, it's too hard to casually grab a game here and there because the people putting in the hours just clean you up. I watch CSGO and stuff on Twitch occasionally though.

When our lease runs out at westlakes, our facilities are worthless. I'm not sure we are too worried about their value.

But it will need replacing, hence the relevance of depreciation. In our situation, depreciation of our building is about as close to a cash expense as it ever can be. Whilst depreciation is a book entry apportioning the expense across an asset's useful life, in a marginal business it's also a good idea to see it as a necessary provision to be able to replace failed assets. So if you're like the Alice Springs Golf Club and don't have easy access to finance, breaking even after depreciation is critical because you need the cash available to replace your assets when required.

But it's probably not as important for our club, except that having to borrow the full $30m or whatever to build/buy our replacement facility comes with significant borrowing costs. Throw $2m extra interest into that P&L and see how it stacks up. Depreciation is real and very worthy of being taken into account.

We should definitely be saving, but the cost of depreciation is not linked to the cost of a new training base, probably a lot less, our next base will most likely cost a lot more than this one is worth in total now. They've paid off nearly $6M of debt in the last 2 years and someone said they should be able to pay it off this year. So I'd imagine once the debt is paid off, the money going into paying off the debt will go into savings as well as extra profit so they should be able to start saving up to 3x the depreciation loss each year from 2018, even more if they direct the Tax and SANFL fees they are saying they will no longer need to pay into savings.

I never said depreciation was linked to the price of the new training base, just that it's a meaningful number because we will need to cover the price in cash or interest costing borrowings. If our financial performance right now can't generate post depreciation profits or break even, then we will struggle under the burden of a $30m loan. Especially as Fagan has stated we're basically maxed out in our earning capacity right now.

We do need to see the financials though because a couple of the statements seem a bit odd. Outside of movements in current assets and liabilities I can't see how we could have retired more debt than what our surplus before depreciation was. The bad debt contributes to bridging the gap, but I wonder if there's not been a re-jig of our borrowings and the statement relates to long term debts only.

Sorry if this has been addressed elsewhere, but is anyone else getting that annoying pop-up ad at the bottom of the page? Any way of getting rid of it other than paying?

I seem to be only seeing the ad on my iPad when visiting BigFooty using Safari and Chrome. Is it safe to use https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/account/upgrades ;) on my iPad?

I know little about IPads (I like keyboards). I've installed ABP on my MacBook Pro and it got rid of all the annoying rubbish very well.

Anyone agree with Fitzy? I don't know much about her. Would she be a good person to have on the board? Jim Hazel, Kate Gould, Rod Jameson & Linda Fellows all need their positions to be renewed this year or early next year.

She would be great to have at the club. Smart lady, well connected and a Crows' tragic.

That Kate Gould's profile on the AFC website is completely mediocre. There's not a single thing listed that has any relevance to a high performance and cutthroat industry like the AFL.

From 2013.

“We sought Kate’s experience and skillset out over 12 months ago when she initially joined our Finance and Audit Committee and that blend of experience and skill will certainly be valued in our Football Club.”

Kate joins the Club after working as a member of the Adelaide Football Club Finance and Audit Committee for the past 12 months. Kate was a Telstra Business Women’s Award Winner (SA) in 2009, was the Chief Executive of the Adelaide Festival for over nine years (2002- March 2012) and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. Gould is currently the managing owner and Director of Our Body Corp.

Just rehashing a club statement designed to be as positive as possible isn't actually mounting any form of argument. In fact, I'm not even sure whether you've posted that as a show of agreement. Would you like to speak to those qualifications/experience and how they relate?

Given AFL footy is essentially the Entertainment Industry I would think her role with the Adelaide Festival is somewhat relevant.

Unless it was her idea to have the flag carried across the Adelaide Oval with that Operatic music as prematch entertainment.

They would relate by being diverse, and not really footy related, while having experience with the functioning of the club through the audit. The one thing clubs do not need is another 'football' point of view, they are neck deep in it.

They have experience with her, and chose her, I would put that above a better CV. Seen lots of people with impressive cv's not amount to much.

No argument either way, was just posting more information. Although the fact that she had spent 12 months auditing the club's finances before she was appointed shows they would have known exactly what she had to offer when they appointed her.

So besides belonging to a political party that likes to spend without thinking about the consequences, what are her qualifications?
