If you're on the desktop site, you click the button Tipping 2016 on the top of the page under the Bigfooty logo. That should take you to the Round 1 page (which requires a margin for the first game). There is a very small set of buttons near the top of the page, reading Tips Home, Enter Tips, Competitions, Ladder and Profile. To join or create a competition, just click the Competitions link and enter passwords/ID numbers etc. The mobile version is not very good (doesn't seem to have a margin selector at all).
