My thoughts on the remaining players out of contract

Jarrad Grant (2015) - probably done enough for a 2 year extension. Will sign if offered.
Mitch Wallis (2015) - Will re-sign a 3 or 4 year extension.
Matthew Boyd (2015) - 1 Year Extension. Backline role has given him a new lease on life.
Michael Talia (2015) - A bit worried about this one. Has had publicized issues with not playing and back in the VFL. Thoughts?
Dale Morris (2015) - May retire or 1 year extension.
Ayce Cordy (2015) - Delist. Please.
Josh Prudden (2015) - Give 1 year extension. Injuries have hampered him. Hopefully get's a run.
Sam Darley (2015) - Delist
Matthew Fuller (2015) - Delist
Mitch Honeychurch (2015) - 3 year deal hopefully. Anyone know how close he is to an extension. Anyone know what he's status is?
Daniel Pearce (2015) - Delist
Roarke Smith (2015) - Retain
Brett Goodes (2015) - Retire/Bring onto Footscray VFL list.
Jordan Kelly (2015) - Retain

I'd be upgrading Roarke Smith to the main list at years end. He has shown win some great signs in the VFL.

Can play a similar role to Easton Wood in years to come, great leap, great hands, dashing run, decent size, great name.

Yes please!

Issue with this is that you've only delisted two from the main list...how do we make the three required selections at the draft?

Really good on his left, really bad on his right.

I think he has huge scope for improvement and is well worth a spot.
Thanks.
Well Macrae gets a spot with being OK on his left and awful on his right, so Roarke's probably in front of Jack on both feet.

Considered this.

Was tempted by Cordy but we simply don't have the ruck depth to cut him.

Prudden could be a delist & rookie situation if push comes to shove. Or we move on contracted players, which seems likely.

I like the idea of Smith, but we should just give him another Rookie year.

I wouldn't be rushing to upgrade Roarke. Reasons being:
  1. He's not yet demanding a spot and is still a bit raw, so there's no huge rush to get him on the senior list so he can be used.
  2. At present it seems difficult to make too many changes to the main list. Right now I'd say only Fuller, Darley and potentially Prudden come off it (and the latter two are both chances to remain). If this eventuates, we're likely to use a reasonably high pick to upgrade him. Seems a bit of a waste of an asset. This could change with potential trades, but it's something we need to consider.
  3. The main one - Goodes and Pearce both look like near-certainties to come off the rookie list already and we're not sure on Kelly yet. If Roarke is upgraded we likely have 3-4 rookie spots to fill in what is being labelled a very shallow draft - I'd rather not go that deep into the rookie draft if it can be avoided.

Delist and Re-Rookie Clay Smith

Senior List: 5 Spots Free
Rookie List: 2 Sports Free

Jarrad Grant (2015) - 1 year deal with a trigger clause for a second if KPIs are met
Matthew Boyd (2015) - 1 year deal
Michael Talia (2015) - 2 year deal, otherwise seek to upgrade second pick
Dale Morris (2015) - 1 year deal
Ayce Cordy (2015) - 1 year deal with a trigger clause for a second if KPIs are met
Josh Prudden (2015) - delist and rookie
Sam Darley (2015) - delist
Matthew Fuller (2015) - delist
Mitch Honeychurch (2015) - 2 year deal

Daniel Pearce (2015) - dependent on whether he can continue to build upon his form from the weekend. Delist if not, 1 year rookie deal if he can
Roarke Smith (2015) - 1 year rookie deal
Brett Goodes (2015) - delist
Jordan Kelly (2015) - 1 year rookie deal

Three spots on the main list (four if Talia/Hunter are traded) and 1-2 on the rookie list. Very happy to approach the off-season with a view to making near minimum changes.

All those cats suggesting Morris will retire, I sweat he said in one of his interviews or articles he wanted to play on as he was excited by the list. There is also this: "I’ve had a lot of battles over my journey and hopefully there’s still a few more battles ahead of me."

It will either be a messy Cross type situation or he will get another year.

What about the "DRINK" do we look at extending his contact now
I'd be prepared to. Don't want some cashed-up parasite of a club across town stealing him.
How long is his current contract?

I could be wrong but I think next year and he was seen having a coffee in Yarraville with Stephen Kernahan and Chris Judd yesterday
Hmmmm, I have mixed feelings about that ... Sticks could be a good forward coach but I don't think I'd want "Chicken Wing" Judd in a specialist coaching role at VUWO.
