Current Membership Tally

...and Collingwood membership numbers anyone?

after the Richmond games Collingwood now have 39,450 members, we should break 40,000 after the Carlton game.

Again we have more member's then Essendon but dan26 does'nt take membership number's into account and only looks at a stupid roy morgan survey that survey's 24,000 people!

Fact remains, Hawthorn - almost 2000 more 'fully ticketed' members then the reigning premier and counting :thumbsu:

And 4,500+ are 4 game members.

I'm just calling a spade a spade - hawthorn are for some reason allowed to include 4 game members in their tally.
No other club gets to do this.
The end result is a skewed total for the hawks.

Just an addition to the Ess V Coll debate.

In the 13 years since 1995 it is true that Ess have drawn as well as Coll overall. However it has to be said in those 13 years Essendon finalled 9 times compared to Collingwoods 4. In other words Essendon were usually in the 8 and Collingwood usually weren't.

Honestly now what would the figures be like if those figures were reversed?

Well the difference in attendances between finals years and non finals years for Essendon has been pretty minimal in that period so I guess it wouldnt make much of a difference from Essendons point of view.

Spot On! 5 out of the last 6 years Collingwood have outnumbered Essendon in attendances.

Only Dan26 and a couple of other Essednon Supporters think they have more supporter's then Collingwood, and yea the did from 1996-2001, but from 2002-2008 collingwood are now the bigger club.

from 2002-2007 collingwood have smashed essendon in membership figures and attendances.

So Geelong doesn't offer a membership for interstate fans? Just the 11 or 16/17/18 packages?

I find that hard to believe. I'm sure most if not all clubs (well Eagles maybe Crows excepted) would have a package of some sort suitable to interstate fans. Whether it's 4 or 5 games is really pretty irrelevant isn't it? (Considering our 4 game 'Tassie' membership is the same cost as our 5 game "Interstate" membership)

No, once again you've over inflated things.

We have 4000 Tasmanian members (be that 'Tassie Hawks' members, Kennedy Club, MCC members or GA members)

They have access to matches and therefore fall under the 'ticketed' membership category. The fact remains that ALL clubs have interstate members, and all are counted as 'ticketed' members.

Geelong also have Tasmanian, WA, SA etc. members that are also included on their membership tally, so I really cant see what leg you are standing on

You can spin it anyway you like, but Hawthorn have close to 36,000 ticketed members according to the AFL.

This all stems from a bet I had with a Geelong fan last year (you?) regarding who would have the biggest membership...who ever lost would cop a 1 week holiday if I remember correctly?

Of course, and it is a great result. But if you are going to trumpet those results, you must also admit your figures are audited differently to the other 15 clubs.

If I have lost any bets when the final tally is in - I'll cop it on the chin.

Skewed how??

I think a 35,000+ membership for a club that offers the lowest face value to its members of any melbourne club is pretty darn good. Imagine the Victorian membership figure if we offered 11 genuine home games. It's a credit to our supporter base and your comments stink of naivety.

Why is this such a pissing contest with everybody?

Can't you just be happy that clubs are making money and memberships on the whole are increasing?

Because this whole forum is a Kindergarden

5 home games in Victoria = 2 home games at Skilled minimum, which are practically impossible to get too without a reserve seat?

I agree.

But you cant just whip off the 4500+ (which is actually 4000) Tasmanian members because its a 4 game membership instead of 5. I really cant see what difference 1 game really makes, its not as though a Tasmanian member is going to knock back a membership because it doesnt have access to an MCG home game if it made the trip to Melbourne.

Geelong's membership is lower and always will be lower then other similar sized clubs because of the capacity of Skilled Stadium, thats obvious but not to some Cat fans.

Could you do this and still have the home games in tassie?
What is your issue exactly?

What is your point?

Do you know the exact % of members who are Kennedy Club, Full Members, etc?

Do you know what % of the Tassie members have Hudson club membership, or a full members, or are just Tassie members?

What is it with people trying to talk down membership numbers?

Its a great achievement, and trying to hold on to some crap like this is just negating the point which is we've got a great arrangement with Tassie and are benefiting from it because we are still able to draw significant amounts of members (record numbers and counting) whilst benefiting from the sponsorship and playing home games down there in terms of revenue.

But I honestly don't know what your motives are, except trying to downgrade the efforts of the club which is bizarre because you obviously have no real idea of the actual marketing figures anyway.

Could you do this and still have the home games in tassie?

Obviously not. Members can only be given replacement home games for the games in tasmania. It is unfair to suggest that the Hawthorn membership tally should have an asterisk against it when they are robbing peter (vic members) to pay paul (or to be paid by paul (lennon) :D).

We get 7 games a year with full member rights. It goes to show that the Hawthorn Victorian supporter base is pretty darn strong and passionate to back the club in spite of this sponsorship (which has pumped 4000 tasmanian members and a LOT of money into the club at the cost of these games).

Deal with it - You can't have it both ways.
Wow what an amazing response.

Ignore what I wrote completely, and write the same point again.

You have no idea of the real marketing figures, and know it.

I agree, since 2003 Collingwood have overtaken Essendon. The figures dictate that but I think Dan has some valid points, while I dont believe Essendon are bigger or necessarily more supported like the surveys suggest there isnt too much difference between our supporter bases.

Especially when both clubs are having a ordinary season I think we both have a similar size of 30k - 35k loyal supporters/members who will turn up to a home game no matter how crap the team is going against a Fremantle or Port Adelaide etc in Melbourne.
