Currently? or at the start of their career?

Current: no one as I believe he is in his prime and collingwood's premiership window is starting to open within the next three years.

Start of their career:
Judd

Depends on the team's situation. A team pushing for a GF now would easily take GAJ, but a team that won't threat for a few years might think differently.

Do you mean players you could have for the rest of the season only? For Melbourne I'd take:

Pav definitely. Not Brown or Riewoldt due to injury. I'd think about Sandilands.

Then it comes down to the midfielders. I'd have a good look at Hodge, but after that I'd be happy with Ablett ahead of any other player.

If you were the gold coast and didnt have to settle for judas turncoat players

If I were the Gold Coast and I was drafting for the future....

Nic Nat, Matthew Kreuzer, Scully and Trengrove, Joel Selwood, Daniel Rich.

That's about it. The GC should target guys who will get 8-10+ years out of them and who can be game changers for most of their careers.

Not too many that I would take over Gary, but you'd be looking at the top kids from the past few drafts for mine. Taking the best key position players in the comp (Riewoldt, Pavlich, Goodes, et al) would be nice for a team that could contend immediately but you'd find yourself in a position where if you didn't contend you'd lose what you gained mighty quick. Chances are that these new teams will be 3-5 years from being a legitimate premiership threat and by that stage all three would be well on their way out, if not out the door.

I wouldn't take anyone before GAJ right now, he still has years of dominating ahead of him and i'm pretty sure that he's going to be lethal in the forward line well into his 30's. If we had a weak ruck division, i would probably consider Sandilands, just because he's such a massive advantage against most teams.
None of the younger generation are really proven enough for me to consider them over him. Perhaps would look at Selwood but i still don't really believe he will take over the #1 mantle from Ablett. I reckon Ablett will still be the best for a couple of years yet (at least roughly on par with the best in any given year).

Yep def take Pav... although he is 28 he is extremely fit and hardly gets injured, is versatile and could play for another 3-4 years whilst the Dees push hard into the top four and deep into september :thumbsu: id also look very hard at Hodge and Franklin......

there are some very average players thrown around here.

Buddy is rapidly becoming the new Kouta, on his day, he's the best player in the competition, on another day, he collects his cash.

Hard to pick a bad game for gablett jnr.

Buddy IMO has the 'potential' to be the best forward in the competition bar none.

but there is that dirty word again, potential.

I'd take gablett any day, he makes ordinary forwards look good.

Very good in 07, awesome in 08, down a bit in 09 but still kicked 70ish goals and has been good this season. The fact that he plays a key position makes him more valuable than most midfielders.

Sounds like Kouta

his average game puts him in the good category when his good games are breathtaking.

while gablett jnr ever game is in the elite category, he's considered beaten when held to sub 25 possessions, as good as diesel williams, robert harvey, buckley or any of the elite pure midfielders in the last decade or so, and still with room to grow.
