Cyril Rioli is still the most overrated player of all time.

Here's an example.

Against Top 8 sides (at the time of play), Judd has only 5 goal assists. Against Bottom 9, he has 27

Here's the last few weeks.

Carlton win over Essendon - 0 goal assists
Carlton loss to StKilda - 0 goal assists
Carlton loss to Hawthorn by 12 points - 0 goals, 0 goal assists
Carl over Fremantle by 30 points - 3 goal assists
Carl over Melbourne by 76 points - 3 goal assists
Carl over NM by 18 points - 0 goal assists
Carl over Ess by 74 points - 7 goal assists
Carl loss to Coll by 19 points - 0 goal assists
Carl loss to WB by 27 points - 0 goal assists
Carl over Rich by 103 points - 5 goal assists

Let's see the Hun turn the microscope on their love child. Thought not. :D

LOL :D Just let it go HP, Hodge will never be one third the player Judd is. They were drafted in 2001, get over it already

No answer to that embarassing stat?

Let's see if the Hun will run with it. It's far more glaring than Rioli's difference of 1.2 goals against Top 8 sides and 1.8 goals against the bottom 9.

5 of 32 rofl :D

The actual stat is 9 goals against 7 top 8 teams and 18 goals against 10 bottom 9 teams.

So your point is that however you tweak the statistics (e.g. creating your own subjective form ladder) Cyril is still a downhill skier?

Your saying these stats are misleading because he played in the midfield some games, others have claimed some games his hammies hindered him...which is it? Surely he wouldn't be playing in the midfield against top 8 teams when carrying an injury.

Do you think they'll run with it before or after his MVP and 3rd Brownlow? Thats an interesting one for you to ponder HP.

Back on Cyril - after yesterday's game, its fair to say Thornton has surpassed him as a big game player. You guys had your chance to land the T-Bird but blew it. So now you'll have to make do with Thyril. Bad luck mate, I'm sure things will pick up soon :thumbsu:

Adelaide would have been in the top 8 when you played them in round 1 cause they start with "A". Another scalp for the great one :thumbsu:

Just face it HP, he's a flat track bully. I would seriously omit him this Friday.

No, I think he would have included Adelaide as a bottom 8 team because Cyril kicked 0 goals and that would have helped pad the stats even more.

Nope. 1.2 goals against Top 8 and 1.8 against bottom 9 isn't downhill skiing at all. You expect any forward to kick more goals against poorer opposition.

It's either one, depending on which game you're talking about.

Why talk about medals instead of actual performance? Even Andrew Walker could've won a Coleman this year if he downhill skiied a little faster.

Judd's actual performance is 5 of his 32 goal assists against Top 8 side.

5.

ROFL :D

lollipops.

Soft as butter. This is a classic case of flash bias. Looks good a few times on a highlight reel, but there is no substance week in and out. Goes missing regularly.

Hawks should think about trading him, because a sucker team out there would offer a 1st rounder for him. Take the money and run!

Judd's actual performance is 5 of his 32 goal assists against Top 8 side.

So against worse sides that we score far more heavily against, Judd has more score assists. That is a fascinating stat.

Basically your stat breaks down to, you kick higher scores against bottom 8 teams therefore have more score assists.

Just ground breaking, but not what you wanted to hear.

Hahaha, so how does this apply to Judd and not to Rioli?

The stats I showed on Judd were against Top 8 sides at the time they played. Rioli averages 1.2 goals against Top 8 sides on that criteria, and 1.8 against Bottom 9 sides.

Judd on the other hand has 5 goal assists against Top 8 sides and 27 against Bottom 10 sides, a much bigger difference in performance.

Yet on these figures you have Rioli as a 'no substance' player while not noting any discrepancy in Judd's performance. :D

It's thanks to hardworking threads like these, that now even the mainstream media are waking up to the Rioli reputation:eek:utput mismatch.

What's the reputation that Rioli has? Be specific.

As far as output goes, Rioli up to his 3rd year was statistically on par or better than other midfield/fwd greats including Hird and Akermanis in their third years.

But go on and define the reputation for me please.

Cyril must be slowing down, couldn't catch Varcoe on the breakaway on the weekend.

Maybe his new running style isn't all its cracked up to be.

Once his pace is gone he'll be next to useless.

Just out of interest, what was the average number of possessions per team per game back when Hird and Aker were playing their 3rd year of football, according to when Rioli was playing his 3rd season?

Don't know but it's irrelevant. You'd have to find the average number for a half-forward/midfielder.

On actual output he's underrated. Not having his best year but still the No.1 average goal assist player in the comp.

Three cheers for maryjames :thumbsu::thumbsu::thumbsu:
It was only a matter of time that Thryil was widely known as overrated..:D

Its obvious for anyone with a football brain .. :p

Podgy on the other hand has no idea..:D

Hey HP just heard on the grapevine that Juddy's just won the MVP. I suggest you get the abbacus out and explain where the players went wrong with their voting when clearly only Cyril, Buddy, Shoenmakers and Ellis should have been in the running.

i love how this bloke constantly contradicts himself

" you expect any forward to kick more goals against poorer opposition" but then apparently if you dont average the exact same or more stats in finals, your underperforming, which is the ultimate elite playing field in AFL
