If the bloods had their full side this season they would have pumped most d1 sides this year. The bloods will LIFT this week avoid relegation and watch out for us in 2010.

to be honest, haven't watched a lot of D1 footy this year, but have seen a couple of reds games... was impressed with a number of players but felt that they lacked any key position players... is this the general vibe for d1 football?? a handfull of quality players and the rest of the side battling out there?

with bulleen having a year to forget and being sent back to D1 and old geelong just avoiding relegation, do any of the top 4 sides have the ability or cattle to have successful season next year in C grade on current form??

In short, the answer is No. Playing against Old Camberwell/Hampton/Old Carey coming out of B Grade is gonna be a huge ask, as well as top teams such as MHSOB, Beauy, Caulfield, Oakleigh and Mazenod.
There would need to be some serious recruiting done...which wasn't by either BT or Oggers.

Just remember it was only 2 seasons ago that Rupo was narrowly defeated in the prelim by a vastly stronger Old Carey(who also were in D grade 3 years ago) team then currently adorns the playing fields. Having watched the Friars slide from A grade to D grade I have had plenty of opportunity to assess the various grades and have been very impressed with D grade this year. My view would be that the 2 teams who go up will be very competitive, I know that we have a much stronger playing group then the last 2 years. I would also add that Oakleigh also have risen from D grade and played well so don't under estimate the grade!

rupertswood will be able to cope with the jump back up, the year carey / oc2 went up rupo finished 3rd in c grade ( 4pt pre lim loss ), last year injury destroyed our year ( still won 5.5 games ), and sent us back to D1, and we have had a year you would like to have dropping back a grade ( 16 - 1, hoping to be 17-1 after home and away ), i do agree that recruiting will need to be done

time will tell as finals are a different battle

Go Rupo !!

I think with the grade we are in most sides at full strength are very good, but its when injury hits sides dont have the cattle to cope with that. The sides that have a full list to pick from week in week out are the teams that do well. Same as the AFL.
At SMD we have been destroyed by injury this year. Our best 8 - 10 players have played between 6 - 10 games. Not saying that would make us a top team but doesnt help. I dare say that Aquinas are in the same boat.

With all due respect to my old mate HBP, we didn't do a great deal of recruiting for the 2008 season at Hampton Rovers. We lost more than we gained. Oakleigh also went up to C with us and with minimal recruiting missed out on B Section by 2 points.
I don't think it's unreasonable to suggest any side coming up will do well in C Grade if they prepare themselves. A good coach and belief in your group can take you a long way.

Speculation about how D1 clubs would fair in C section 2010 is premature in the extreme. Given the average VAFA club's list turns over between 25 and 35% of its players each year, you're comparing apples with oranges.

The key is how your young players are developing, be they U19s or young guys finding their feet in the senior side, or working their way through the 2s. You need to keep the core of your younger generation enjoying their footy together if you wish to make the step up.

Finally, t payne. I think you'll find most D1 clubs have a good cast of quality small/medium sized players, and its the clubs which can keep their best KPPs running around throughout the year who fare best.

There are plenty of taller players running around in D1 seniors who would struggle to get a 2s game at Xavs or Uni Blues. The same can't be said of the D1 midfielders.

...spot on (an all accounts)

t payne the key position players vary from club to club...for example we played the roys a few weeks back, i played 2's and this bloke no. 7 (j. beech according to the record) would easily slot into our 1's down the spine and alot of other clubs ive seen this year...could play that kid....so i think its just different from club to club regardless of grade until you get to the better b grade sides and the a grade teams.....
