Unfortunately will play with Templestowe this year

Bugger.

Ninja - you always seem to have the good oil old mate.

Oh well, I only agreed that his return would assist, I wasn't sure if it was actually going to happen. Pity though, guess I will have to hit the gym now and practice my 45 metre set shots!!!

I heard he has been offered plenty to go to Lalor under Steve Easton. I believe he works for a bloke that Easto knows. Hope he goes there because Templestowe full of floggers.

HBF - any news mate? Keep me posted. LGA all the way...

He's built like a tank now, I would have like to have seen him knock a few guys around in the middle. Full-forwards are over-rated anyway :D

Reliable source Ninja? (has the big man said anything?)

At least Templestowe might win 1 game if he plays.

Dermie...no news! (LJA is confirmed)

Thanks - but I didn't actually put in for it. ;)
As for Rivalry Round, I think its a VAFA media beat up designed to cash in on the absence of AFL footy on 10/5. Rivalries within the VAFA abound, but they can often be based on the most tenuous premises.

I personally am looking forward to the return of the Latte Cup between Prahran and Fitzroy. Rather partial to the extract of coffee beans I am.

We'll have a brew on for you Frase!

Thanks CMCK.

A basic cappuccino with one sugar for me, a long macchiato for my team manager, and a skinny latte for the club runner thanks!

Frase

NB - What might an opposition BOG winner hope to get out of the Sth Mebourne lads? A couple of Armstrong St Food Store coffee and cake vouchers or a parma and pot from the Gunn Island?

Harps?

Most likely to have his car stolen and we'll supply a metcard to get home, zone 1 only, apologies to Aquinas, Peninsula .....

.....Yarra Valley, Old Mentonians.

Sadly, many of the old boy lads last season (most notably Old Carey and Camberwell) also feared a similar fate at Brunswick Street.

Certainly helped intimidate them into failing badly in the respective sides' BOG table-tennis play-off for the half slab. 12 cans, two players, best of 12 points, with a VB per point won.

Always very entertaining, especially when our overseas recruit Qui Xiang would warm the pine in the seniors, and then grab the full dozen beers at the after-match. About the only thing we won in 2007. :(

The coaching staff at SMD have introduced a ping pong component to this years training program in order to take Fitzroy's beer South of the river. Or maybe I should book some North suburban accommodation for our round 5 visit to the BSO. Looking forward to it Frase!

Hey guys i am thinking about having a kick with old geelong this year. I am curious to know about the clubs in D1 VAFA. Can anyone give me a run down of what each club in D1 is like? Make it funny if you want. Cheers and good luck for 08.

Sneakpeak, although I have been drinking beer all afternoon I am still convinced that old Geelong will get smashed every week, hope you have a thick skin and enjoy watching the ball in the oppositions possession. Have a good christmas and we'll see you on the park next year!:thumbsu:

Good luck sneakpeak. At Old Geelong you will be served the finest pies from the finest ladies in D1 after every home game. However you will also be required to socialise with supporters sporting pathetic little blue and white knitted scarves originally designed for their inbred poodles. The're also ok at football and I am tipping a middle of the ladder finish in 2008 after a disappointing 2007.

Thanks Kid but i am trying to keep off the pies at the moment. You still didnt give me a run down on any of the opposition sides.

Anyone else want to let me know who is the toughest side?
Who is the softest side?
Who is the ugliest side?
Who has the worst supporters?

Any info would be great cheers

I will give you my 2008 ladder prediction for what its worth:

Fitzroy - always recruits well and is well managed as is evidenced by their new coach. Plenty of depth come match day and to be the envy of other teams in 2008. This year was a hiccup and Fitzroy to recommence their rise up the alphabet.
Old Mentonians - Coach is clearly a lunatic to all opposition teams however this will only be a distraction, that he enjoys, from the main show. Anything less than a grand final berth will see heads roll.
Prahran - fierce competitors who sometimes have fiery battles with opposition. this will cause some to dislike but also earn respect from others. Too good a unit to miss finals.
South Melbourne - two very solid years behind them will see them win more games than they lose and squeezing into the four. Ordinary district club that has turned itself round in last couple of years so I give them a thumbs up!
Bulleen Temp - plenty of talk on the bigfooty forum but will need to strike where it counts. new coach with big shoes to fill but the thought of missing finals yet again will be a soul destroyer. last chance for a few of their aging stars
Old Geelong
- Strong depth but ultimatly stuck in D1 with no momentum.
NOBS - unknown quantity to me and for this reason I am throwing them somewhere in the middle.
Aquinas - to only avoid relegation by the thinnest of margins due to a late rally. history will show that momentum up the grades is everything in the amateurs but there are always exceptions. do they have the internet at this school yet? would love someone to get on here and tell me what they think.
Yarra Valley - the talls to provide plenty of fire power up forward but may experience mid to late season slump unless it can seriously fix its problem with lack of depth.
Peninsula - to win a few home games but too few away games. To go back down a grade.

Great post Kid. D1 looks on paper to be a pretty even and competitive comp in 2008.

As a Reds supporter, I am looking forward to renewing aquantance next year with the 4 wheel drive loving Bum Pirates from Mt Eliza.

I remember a game in 2002 when, for some reason, the VAFA umpire didn't front. The Peninsula reserves umpire ran the game by himself. Needless to say, such a display of biased umpiring has not been witnessed before or since. We only lost by a point, quite a feat considering we were up against 19 on the field!

Along with Bentleigh and Ormond, the Reds have had some tasty rivalries in the last 7 years or so with clubs south of the Yarra.

just a kid, i'm happy to inform you that the internet does indeed stretch all the way out to Ringwood, though i have to admit we have been somewhat conspicuous in our silence. hopefully it will stay this way, i'd be happy to let our football do the talking! i have no doubt there are some D1 clubs who have some very bad memories of playing at the College.

OGGS are very confident of a better showing in 2008. Beter access to the ground, a few new recruits and genuine hunger form the playing group should be enough for finals to be a reality.

Are good enough to trouble the very best sides when on song

You're on the money about the talent at OG home games. I also found Peninsula to have some pretty handy sorts floating about...

Hope you Ringwood boys don't get too shy. Looking forward to the verbal stoush on big footy almost as much as the on field stuff.

Last time you were in D1 you were relegated! Not too many bad memories of playing at the college :) welcome back to D1

SMD....no good- unless they recruit really well and going by the coaches past recruitment record it doesnt look good.

Fitzroy Reds....no good- need to get their act together.

OG...as previously mentioned only good for one thing...food and spectators.

Surely a team that won 2 flags in a row cant be that bad and would not need to recruit that much. They picked up 6 - 7 players of real quality last year, and have a few new ones this year which are going to be very good also.
